  1. Bear paws are some great lures. Which reminds me, I think I need to put in a new order for the fall season coming up.
  2. I was surprised to see how low the water was. The deepest part of the lake I could find was only a little over paddle deep. Most of the lake was below knee deep. We need some good rain.
  3. I went out the other day to get a quick fish in with out foster kid. We fished from the bank this time, the one closer to the lily pads by the soccer field. He was begging all day to get a quick fishing sesh in lol. Fishing was a little slow, just small sunfish and bluegill mostly. As we were picking up some trash along the bank, I noticed an odd colored fish I've never seen in the water. It swam near the top of the water and would go back and forth from out in the open to some tree branch cover. It looked to be about 10 inches or so in size. I tried to take a few pictures with my iPhone before we left. Looked like a Koi or huge Goldfish to me. Has anyone else seen this before??
  4. Went out last night. Found a lot in the brush and weeds near the shallow areas. Try checking in the shallows by the lakehouse. They were mostly good sized; a few were the small guys. Good luck!
  5. Just did a float last night; From Southwood to Crieghton and camped along the banks. We paddled up no problem in kayaks as it does get shallow a little after you pass hwy 60. We had to take out a few spots due to dragging. Water is indeed still warm and there are a couple trees down but easy to get around. Fishing was just average for us. Lots of trash that we found and did a little clean up as we fished along. We floated back down to Southwood around 6am this morning. So it can be done, but I would suggest a kayak. Good luck!
  6. That's exactly where I caught it. I think that might be his little hang out there. My hub's caught one slightly smaller at the same spot and I'm thinking it was the same fish. He's probably still hanging around there I bet.
  7. Was able to get out earlier in the week for a little evening fishing. Fish were biting pretty hard. I used plastic worms mostly and hooked this nice 3 pounder. He has been caught many times due to all the scars he had on his mouth. He was the biggest of the evening.
  8. Thanks for the feedback! The hair rig seems incredibly easy. I have used a rig similar, a two hook rig for catfish-but with deer bone as the hook. I think I might be doing a lil carp fishing very soon.
  9. We are the smallest tribe in New Mexico. It's located a few miles north of Santa Fe. It's one of the last tribes in New Mexico that actually stick to a lot of the old traditions. I'm quite excited to try and catch one of these carp!
  10. I guess I should do an introduction first...I've fished my whole life and am not your typical girl. I hunt, fish, climb, hike, cave and all the in-between with my hubby. I'm Tesuque Native American and definitely know my way around nature! Now then... I was out fishing the other morning out on Springfield Lake mainly for bass in my kayak. After catching a few 2 pounders right by the boat house on some powerworms, I paddled a bit out into the far grassy area across from the boat house just wandering. I was in about a foot of murky water when I thought I saw a huge snake by the first look of scales. I quickly realized it was a fish (doh!), but have never seen it before around the lake area. It was in the 5 pound looking range with diamond scales. I later confirmed it with MO Conservation that it was a Big Grass Carp. Is it just me or has anyone seen these around the lake or James? Anyone catch one? I've heard they are quite the fighters and can catch them on corn.
