  1. I've gigged for 30 years. It is a tradition for a lot of us. I will gig every chance I get. I haven't stuck anything but suckers in the last 15 years If you've never gigged you just wouldn't understand any of these conversations I guess
  2. Thanks scott. I spend so much time on the water that eventually I stumble on something.
  3. I caught 6 spots 4 largemouth and 3 big Smallie.
  4. This weather has the fish confused. Took a quick trip close to home and it was crazy good for a hour on wtd baits. Who would of thought.
  5. I didn't gig a smallmouth. But ditto. I find you fascinating as well.
  6. He didn't respond but he's a busy man this weekend with the doe season going on. im sure he's tired of my whining anyway lol.
  7. I didn't gig any smallmouth
  8. Nope, I texted him
  9. Yes
  10. I wonder what that weighed ? With that length and a belly full of a red horse sucker, state record type of fish
  11. I was out but didn't see you Man, that's a pretty fish. I'd like to meet her soon.
  12. I'm happy to say the guy who stuck the one accidentally, actually was so upset with himself that he sat down the whole rest of the evening in total disgust about it. It was a 12" fish it's almost impossible to mistake a 20" smallie for any other fish. 12" fish in fast water running with the red horse, I can see the dilemma. Btw, we saw walleye, catfish and even a couple big hellbenders
  13. And bingo was his namo
  14. My ultimate goal would be to make it illegal to gig That isn't gonna happen so it would be great if the fine was so high that people would take it more seriously. The prosecuting attorney in said county doesn't usually have a passion for the river like some of us do. I know these are 1st world problems. Right ? I've said it before , gigging sucks.
  15. Btw if someone is gigging at 3 am that would definitely qualify as an illegal activity and would constitute a hefty fine. Back to my foxhole
  16. only imagine how many bass and other game fish get stabbedThis is the point of my post that some may have missed. Unfortunately gigging is a sport where you can and will mistake the identity of game fish. It's not unlawful to stab a gamefish. It's unlawful to keep it though. I can only imagine how many bass and other game fish get stabbed considering we are very cautious and careful law abiding citizens who have a passion for the river and the smallmouth
  17. Yes!!!! I'm putting boat in now.
  18. I'm not exactly sure what a conservation agent would have done to us? Do you have any clue about the law? It's not illegal to gig bass.
  19. I went out yesterday to try again for some bass. The old school rogue was banging big fish like nothing else. Some friends came over and we took a gigging expedition over a several mile stretch. With the 50 degree water temps we saw fish from 8" deep to 10'. Most big bass were in flow behind an obstruction. We stabbed 4 limits of suckers and only two smallmouth casualties. One was from someone who hadn't gigged in 6 years. The other came from someone who gigs every week. It happens man.
  20. I think you hit a homerun with this comment. Now, back in my foxhole !
  21. White bass flathead catfish walleye green bass( little ones) bluegill-crappie
  22. Lol I am in full rut. No fishing for me til I tag out a buck or the season ends. Gigging reports from buddies are telling me that Smallie's are 100% in winter holes. Fish in a barrel fellas. Big girls are hanging together in their usual winter haunts.
  23. I usually give my guest one cast in the sweet spot Then it's all mine.
  24. I myself would consider 27" or bigger on the meramec is a trophy walleye. Amazingly I have caught em that size or bigger from Sullivan all the way to the ssippi. In the same exact spots every time.
