Went out the other day with a buddy and we caught 4 bass. Nothing else. Caught em on spinner bait and crank baits. I was hoping to catch some crappie so we dropped minnows to no success. Don't really know where to look for the crappie. Going back today to fish the river on the other side of the dam. Any suggestions?

Well we had no luck with either. Finally caught one on the Carolina rig but both kept getting hung up on the rocks. I'm not convinced I like either. Give me a buzzbait, spinner, or crank and I'm happy

That is a good point. I think thats where the added challenge of older thecnologies comes in to play. Its not just "can you kill and animal with a recurve or longbow", its "can you kill the animal with a recurve or longbow BUT do it with the same efficencey as using a compound" Now fishing is a slightly different story but same general idea.

haha very good point

Walcrabass I have recently started to bow hunt but only have a compound right now. I figured that is by far the easiest way to learn and get started then work my way up to recurve, etc. I do enjoy bow hunting much more than guns now. And I can only imagine how much more exciting bow hunting gets as you use recurves and then longbows. I hope that one day I can work my way up to that level. Untill then I will continue to use my cheap 55lb pull compound. I agree for the most part with all of your comments. I am young and I admit, I do at times get suckered in to this day and ages technology. However, being young, I useually cant pay for any of this stuff. After all the hub I made a few A-rigs of my own. I still have yet to use them. I mostly fish on small lakes out of a small Jon boat w/ only a trolling motor. And I love it. I agree that Id like to see how the pros would do on the water without the extra aid that most people like us have access to. Although mayb they have recieved all of that extra stuff because of their ability without the aids. I wouldnt go as far as to say I would get rid of the barbs on my hooks but I would like to see more people fish the way that I like to. Then again if people did that there may be no room on my favorite waters.

Me and a buddy are going out fishing in the next week to try and prove (or disprove) the validity of these rigs. one is going to use an A-rig and the other is gonna Carolina rig. Which one should I be if I want to catch more fish? lol

Walcrabass Do you use a recurve bow when you hunt? do you even go the extra mile and shoot a longbow? That would be extremely impressive.

Springfield Lake - Buzzbait?
Bassmaster21 replied to Bassmaster21's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Thats what I was afraid of. Oh well, it will give me a chance to try out some new stuff. Thanks for the replies! -
Thanks for the ideas. Ill give it some more thought and see if i cant come up with something functional.

As mentioned, casting the "rig" was my worry. I have tampered with the idea some but was really just curious as to what people thought. I know typically fish that hit a buzzbait commit and hit it hard but I'm wondering if there are any fish that are just curious and maybe a trailing lure would seal the deal for them so to speak.
-
Well its really not a new lure as it is a modification of one. The idea is to somehow attach a trailer to a buzzbait. But not your conventialnal trailer hook. It is a trailer grub/minnow/shad (whatever you chose) that is on a seperate line and hangs down and trails the buzzbait by roughly a foot. So to the ffish the buzzbait will go by on the surface then the smaller trailer bait will follow just under the surface just behind the buzzbait. Wonder what others think about this idea. Dont have to be nice. Just would like to hear from other anglers.

Spawning At Springfield Lake
Bassmaster21 replied to hog_wild's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I am fairly new to this lake as well. I fished it really hard last summer and fall but never ventured out to try anything new when it comes to lures and what works. Ive seen many people fish on the river part but not sure what they use. A lot of people fish the main channel where the river starts to open up into the main lake. They use a lot of cranks and spinners with some success. Hope any of this help and mayb ill see you out there sometime. Goodluck. -
Was wondering if anybody had been out recently? Specifically I am curious as to where people like to crappie fish on this lake this time of year (or any time for that matter). I have never crappie fished this lake very hard because why waste time looking for a few crappie when I know I can catch twice as many bass. However, I have my methods of catching bass and that does not include the cold winter weather but I have been bored and itching to get on the water so I was curious as to where I could just drop minnows and mayb catch a few fish. Any info, fact or fiction, is appreciated.

Anyone Fishing Springfield Lake?
Bassmaster21 replied to Patrick M's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
It was up river, by the freeways. Most were deeper on soft plastics and spinners. -
Anyone been out lately? Was wondering how the temperature change and wind has affected the fishing on the main lake. Fish the river part with much sucess on pumkinseed worms. I also caught a few on a black spinner bait. Curious as to how the main lake is producing.

Anyone Fishing Springfield Lake?
Bassmaster21 replied to Patrick M's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Went last Saturday morning for the first time in a while. Cought 13 bass between the two of us. It was very sunny and I think that hurt the fishing a little. Nothing of incredible size though. A few 16-17 inchers. Most were in the slot limit. -
So with the summer about to end a door is closing on another fishing season. (and one opens on another- autum)All in all I had a very productive summer fishing. How was everyone elses? Any good catches this summer? Good stories? Here are a few of my better catches this summer. Post pics if you got em. Thanks

I mostly fish there too. I just recently started fishing mcdaniels. Banks are hard to fish there though with all the trees -

Do you just fish from the bridge? I fish from re bridge with plastic worms and spinner baits. -

Yeah, I am trying. I loved it up there. The lake we were on did have many big pike or walleye but some nearby lakes had monsters. I can't wait to go back.

I dont fish fellows often but when I do I just troll the points. I don't really know any effective ways to fish fellows without live bait. Any suggestions?
