  1. Another great one, especially if you're not throwing an 8 wt, is Rich Strolis' Knucklehead, although the hooks are pretty pricey. http://vimeo.com/15390959
  2. Are you sure it's an issue with the knot? If I get hung up, that's where I always break off. I'd much rather replace 10 cents in tippet than a $4 leader.
  3. It's just two strips secured to the shank then folded over, basically tied like a foam mouse pattern but with two strips instead of one. Secure the green strip to the shank first then the yellow strip, whatever you want the top color to be goes on first. The body material is just schlappen. That's tied on a gami octopus, but the best option is a gami finesse wide gap weedles imo.

  5. Bumping this since it's about that time of year. This is tied on a 4 ought, for raising only the biggest of monsters.
  6. Gotta love the permanent grin caused from landing a big fish.
  7. The OTG 119 is currently on sale for $399 at the Dick's in Lee's Summit, assuming the sale is national.
  8. Got mine today thanks everyone for participating and extra thanks to mic
  9. Doing some of Mike Schmidt's patterns would be awesome.
  10. slutty version:
  11. I try to get everything at Rainbow in KC, but if I have to go online I always try BlueQuillAngler first because they have good prices and free s/h on almost everything, the drawback is they don't carry THAT much. Second choice is docsflybox.com, they seem to have about everything under the sun for fly tying, good prices, and decent s/h charges.
  12. Awesome thanks, glad I asked, would've never guess Dai-Riki
  13. I wanted to ask, what brand+model is the keeled hook? Thanks, -Bob
  14. I'm sure you could do it with sheet foam it would just take some testing to get the buoyancy right.
  15. My go-to rod for 99% of my fishing is a 7wt and having enough money to only buy one rod, I chose the 8 over the 6, thinking that if I loved it, maybe I'll add the 6 down the road. The Ross got great reviews and I paid less for the Ross than I would've on the Professional so that's what I ended up with. I also looked at the Echo Solo but couldn't find much in the way of user feedback on it. I've got three young children on one modest salary so finding value is my main goal.
  16. Wanted to get a good all-around rod that I could pack easily and that was saltwater capable. Settled on a Ross Flystik 8wt at a decent discount. On the 'want but not really need' list is a Lamson Konic and an Airflo 40+ line.
  17. Mine are in the mail. -Bob
  18. So has anyone ever hooked into one out there? My folks live out that way and I was thinking about trying it one day in the next month or two.
  19. Traveller, with the screw down jaws that I've had for a decade. If I was going to buy one now I'd get a peak for the longer stem and the lever clamp.
  20. Mine will go out late this week.
  21. Awesome. I like the underwater video of the actual fly as much as the tutorial (a lot).
  22. I keep checking shops in town and online and am always disappointed. My kingdom for some grizzly hackle.
