Anyone fish for sand bass with fly rod? Looking for any pointers, etc. What is the best type of line, sink tip or floating? Best flys?
Would also like to fish for smalls and largemouth if there are any pointers as well.
Thanks!
Thanks to everyone for sharing all the good information. I enjoy fishing the LIR and even more so now that I am able to learn from everyone sharing their experiences. Thanks!!!
Not sure I know the name of it either? I was in the same area just upstream. Do you know if anyone is catching any big fish at the zoned area by the gravel pit? Probably the biggest fish we caught was about 15 inches.
Stopped counting as two of us caught well over twenty in 2-3 hours each day this weekend. Black zebra midge 18", pink weight worm 14", black wooly booger 14". Indicator and dead drift, did much better on dead drift...never used an indicator again after dead drifting. Thanks for the help!
Couple hours each day. Never really left the gravel parking lot area below the dam. Afternoon on Saturday and noonish on Sunday. Fish were visible all over and were surfacing and jumping out of the water fairly often. Even saw what-looked-like two greyish/brown mayflies taken on the surface. Caught 'em on black zebra midge, pink weighted worm, and black wooley buggers...
Any advice/opinion on purchasing an Orvis Hydros 9ft 6wt for $295?
Below is their link...on sale from $500.

Thanks for the info.
No hot grease bath for those guys. They were put back after a quick snapshot.
I do have many fond memories of eating bluegill fillets breaded with crushed saltines at grandmas lake house in Minnesota though...
Looking to purchase a 6 wt and see where Orvis has their Hydros on sale for $295.

If there is another option out there that you recommend for less money or what your thoughts are on the Orvis Hydros please let me know.
Thanks!
Great place to cast as it is wide open. If you enjoy drys/poppers I couldn't keep the bluegill off of em. There are several decent size bass in there as well. I did see a guy with a bait caster throwing a 14" worm one day and when I quizzed him he told me he caught a nine pound bass out of there a couple years ago!?!? I never saw anything near that size but quite a few one to two pounders.
