  1. I played with one a BPS the other day, and with the Sage, I can't tell too much of a difference. All of my fly Rods are from BPS and I never have problems, I did have one break, had it for 3 years...they still replaced it even when the warranty was only a year. I will probably pick up one as part od my tax return present, the other part of it is a new pontoon :-)
  2. I think people make Crane harder than what it really is. MY usual trip there is downstream from the park I hike about a mile down stream and work my way back to the far end of the park. I always wade, unless of course I see redds. I usually catch at least one fish in every riffle/hole. Cast up stream with an indicator and that is all there is too it. San Juan Worms are always my go to fly at crane, followed by buggers, and the occasional match the hatch, but the majority f the fish I catch at Crane are on nymphs. As far as tippet, they aren't pick, just match your flies. I usually use 6x for my nymphs, but I have caught plenty of fish on 5x, I only use 7x if I m throwing dries, which really isn't that often. I fish Crane every regularly and don't have problems catching fish, and I am not that great of a fly fisherman.
  3. LAnce Berkman is just as good
  4. I dont think mine has one... should see baout starting one...Fly-Fishers of Men...I like it!
  5. Was playing around with craft fur and came out with this, nothing elaborate, but it looks like it is going to be a winner this spring. Olive, chartreuse, and white craft fur, olive thread, and stick on eyes on a #1 hook. Let me know what you guy think!
  6. Haven't been to Crane in a couple of weeks, the wind has been killer lately, but it fished well all December.
  7. I've lived in Springfield for 4 years now. I fly fish alot but mainly for trout, with a renewed interest for bass. I fish Roaring River and Crane Creek very often. This spring I am dedicating myself to bass on the fly. I tie my own flies...it's more of an addiction than a hobby. I am a gigantic music nerd, and I am a reptile keeper. Looking forward to having a form where I can share with local guys and gain some new tips tricks and some new places to fish. I am so ready for this spring it is not even FUNNY! Tying flies all winter just doesn't cut it.
  8. Rainbows to not reproduce in the Spring River, the browns do some, but not the rainbows. The river bottom doesn't have the right structure, and the fish's reproductive systems are all jacked from the hatchery. I have caught big females with eggs year round in the spring river.
  9. I am not new to the area, but I have ignored the James River...not sure why. I am mostly an avid trout fly fisherman and don't bass fish much. But this winter I have been bitten by the bass bug, particularly smallmouth and have been tying flies like mad for the past month. My main question is where are the best places to get in at? I don't have watercraft or anything, I am getting a tube soon, but it's just going to be wading for awhile. Any help would be appreciated...cabin fever is driving me mad, can't wait for warmer temps!
