  1. The mechanic told me he can hear the starting enrichment cylanoid click......so he thought that was working. I bought a service manual for the motor and did find a test procedure for the cold start enrichment system....haven't taken the time to do that yet though. A carb cleaning does sound like a good idea though. I was suprised at how often decarbing the pistons was recomended in the manual. I got that little job on the to do list also. Tom
  2. I have fished these lakes for 30 years. Thousand Hills should be real good this year. The high water of the last couple years has kept fishing slow and allowed fish to grow and should be pleanty of them. There is a good ballanced population of fish at Thousand Hills. Good handy place to get on the water and worth your time. Hazel Creek is good also. Great chance of catching big bass. The lake has suffered from low reproductive rates in the last decade due to a MDC accedent of stocking too many grass carp. This made aquatic vegitation almost non existant and no where for the babies to hide. The lake is on the up swing as the grass carp are dying of old age. Another piece of good water should be LaPlata this year. The big lake has had a fee imposed to put a boat in for the last couple years. This has turned away many. I am thinking this year the fee will really be worth paying....about 25.00 per annual permit. Two years of slow down on fishing pressure can't be a bad thing. I am thinking I will get my money's worth this year if I get a chance to go up there. Good bass and crappie. Probably try to whack some big grass carp with my bow also. Good home water to have. I have just moved to Macon and I got new water to learn. Tom
  3. I got a new to me 97 90hp johnson last summer. It has been hard to start cold. I have run the battery down completely a couple time trying to get it started. It fires off and runs great with just a touch of the key once it is started the first time for the day. Seems as if my cold start "choke" is functioning. My mechanic says it is the way I am doing it that is wrong. I am still testing different procedures to get it done. Yesterday I tried to follow the mechanics recomendations and ran the battery to almost noting once again. I always cold started in high idle with my old Merc so that is what I am trying with this motor. But I am now realizing I might be flooding it. The mechanic told me to press the "choke" multiple times and that is what I tried yesterday. Anyone have a similur motor and a cold start procedure that works for them. Tom
  4. I am looking for the same info just not downsteam of Tunnel I am wondering about up stream. Is there much jet boat or any traffic around the LeadMine access?
  5. Looking for a good used onboard 2 bank charger for my boat. If you got one sitting colecting dust let me know.
  6. Length does matter. The canoe is at leats 15 ft and probably 36 inches wide at most. I have never been a big fan of 10 ft johns. To me they are not very stable. Give me a canoe any day. Not sure about the rating being with max power? Look at a 16 ft 36" wide flat back canoe 5hp max. 700 pound weight capacity on Osagian's web site. I know max rating for two identical motor boats one with no console "tiller stear" and one with a console stearing wheel the one with the console will have a higher weight capacity listed or at least a higher hp rating. So the motor does have something to do with the rated capacity I guess.
  7. Yep, carp are definately on the list. Always thought it would be pretty easy to chum a hole and wait a little while and throw some bait in and hook up with something over 10 anyway. I have arrowed a coule oer 20. Going to be targeting flatheads and blues also.
  8. My girl friend is just learning.....about two years into it and we did not go much last year. I told her we are going to try to get something over 20. Species does not matter just something over 20. I think it is doable. She is on board with it. Gona have to learn how to target big boys, mostly always been a artificial lure chucker. going to have to learn to throw my casting net. Tom
