  1. Well, I struggled with the spoon. Didn't even get a bite. Obviously need some more practice with it. I did, however, manage to land the biggest bass (so far) I've ever caught out of Table Rock. She was 22 1/4" and weighed just shy of 6 pounds (according to my cheap digital scales). I was fishing a big worm in about 16' of water up the white. I tried attaching a picture but can't figure out how.
  2. ...and yes we're talking fishing. Was hoping you guys could educate me on some different tips and techniques for flipping a spoon in and around docks. For example, on the deep water docks, do you just pitch it over one of the bars and vertically jig it at X depth? On the "shallower" docks, do you let it sink to the bottom and rip it back up...or just kind of hop it along? Looking to add another arrow to the quiver and practice this technique exclusively this weekend. Just hoping you guys can help me straighten the learning curve a little. Thanks!
  3. It was fun...but PLEASE add at least one more weigh-in location! It would open up a lot more water. I heard LOZ had 3.
  4. Was hoping someone could tell me the water color in the James river. thanks!
  5. I guess it would help if I posted the link!
  6. I keep forgetting to post this... Here's another video on using baitcasters and getting backlashes out. This one's from TR guide, Mike Webb.
  7. Thanks, you too!
  8. The Oakley Big Bass Facebook page is having a contest to see who can come closest to guessing the winning weight from this weekends big bass tournament. I guessed 7.87. I was curious what you think the winning weight will be.
  9. Do you have any problems with the sticks melting on the hot summer days?
  10. I disagree, I think strippers would really add a whole new element to fishing. A bit distracting, but I think they'd be great to have running around the lake.
  11. Thanks for the feedback, Bill and everyone else!
  12. I was going to fish as a co-angler in the CPA tournament on Saturday but didn't get in. For some reason, they only pulled 27 boaters...I was co-angler #28. I decided I would head to the Rock anyways to do some fishing and compare my results with those fishing the tournament on the boaters side. I used Saturday as my pre-fishing day. It took me until about 2:00 in the afternoon to figure things out. On Sunday, I fished from 7:00-1:00 and had 4 keepers at 9 pounds (I have the Rapala digital culling scales). I fished between Emerald Beach and Eagle Rock. I started out on a main lake point throwing a spook jr. Lots of shorts and one keeper. After that bite died down, I spent the rest of my time in the bigger creek arms working plastics pretty quickly. I targeted the first 50 yards inside the main lake point as well as all the secondaries that I found within the first 1/2 of the arm. I found most of my fish on either side of the secondaries...especially behind boat docks. Deepest fish I caught came in about 12 fow. I probably caught 15 fish yesterday, but only 4 keepers. The biggest one was just under 3 pounds. I know 7:00-1:00 wasn't a full "tournament day" so there would have been an opportunity for a 5th fish. With the 4 keepers, though, I would have placed 20th out of 27. ...not that great. Anything you guys would have done differently? Here's the CPA results: http://central-proam.com/table-rock-lake-results-5512/ FYI, I was in a red Bass Cat. There were a lot of fishermen out yesterday. I saw more fishing than catching going on.
  13. @ Bill, Why doesn't that end of the lake hold as large of bass as the dam area? I've heard that said several times...just curious.
  14. Based on your previous post, I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this...but are there any rods left for signing up?
  15. Well, let's ask this a different way... Hypothetically speaking, if you were going to be crappie fishing this weekend then you would start fishing ____________ types of areas throwing/using __________ for bait. If it matters in this completely hypothetical scenario, I'll be fishing areas from the Kings down to Rock Creek area. Thanks again!
  16. Unless the wife changes my plans, which happens from time to time, I'm heading to the Rock this weekend to chase some crappie. I primarily fish for bass, so I was hoping you guys could give me a little guidance for crappie...as far as the water I should be fishing and the bait/lures I should be using. I was planning to fish areas from the Kings down toward Viney Creek or Rock Creek. Neither of my graphs are working right now, so if I stumble across your favorite brush pile, it will be purely incidental! Thanks in advance!
  17. First time posting here but wanted to share my experience in hopes that it saves someone some $. Some of you may already be way ahead of me here, but since I don't fish with braid often, I've had a steeper learning curve. First, I was fishing the A-Rig this weekend around Shell Knob. I was swimming it back, felt a bump, and drove one of the hooks right into a tree. The braid did its job and I was able to straighten the hook out and save the rig. However, on my next cast, I sent the A-Rig about 60 yards down the lake without any braid attached to it. You see, when I set the hook on the tree, the braid dug into the spool. On my next cast, the reel spooled off about 15 yards and came to an abrupt stop where the line was dug in. Lesson: If you hang up the A-Rig...or there's any chance it may have dug into the spool, take a minute before your next cast to manually spool off some line and check it. Second, have any of you tried fishing your swimbaits on weighted hooks instead of jig heads behind the A-Rig?
