  1. Just checking to see if the ice is getting anyone else. Here in Independence, Mo it is not doing much right now. However did go out to pickup a prescription this morning and the roads were a mess. Did not look bad but were extremely slick. Supposedly we are supposed to get more of the same into Sunday and Tuesday might be really rough. Just can't stand antoher long term power outage(been through that twice). Even considered going down to Branson to ride this thing out but a one year old labrador kind of squashes that. Hope everyone is ok and please be careful if you do have to go out. Doug
  2. bobtu, you mention k&k flyfishers in your post which tells me you are in the kc area. I live in Independence, Mo. So I deal with the same people up here. K&K is very good. Bought my first combo from Rainbow Fly Shop here in Independence(an orvis streamline combo, you can do better than that.) Like I said K&K is good, bass pro in Olathe is extremely limited. Cabellas in KCK has a very good fly shop and they will combo anything even though they do not advertise that. My first setup other than the Orvis I mentioned Was a TFO Pro from Cabellas and a reel and flyline of my choice. This was not a Catalog combo but they did me very good on the price and yes they will take you outside to try your rig out. Even bought my Sage rod from them and they definitely treated me right on that. Cabellas in KCK is not your average big box store. These guys know what they are doing. Having said that K&K is also very good!!! Don't know anything about the Reddington you mentioned but the TFO Pro has been very good to me. I only bought the Sage because I got a great deal on it and it was my dream rod. At this stage of my career knowing my abilities the TFO will probably fish just as well as the Sage(for me). Most of the people on here are a whole lot more knowledgeable than me but if you think I can help feel free to contact me. Good luck, Doug

    Cotton Bowl

Arkansas proved against LSU that they have one heck of a team. Missouri should be healthy by then. This has the makings of being one heck of a shootout!!! Doug

    Mu Vs. Ou

Congrats to the OU people! Was that a good old fashioned butt kicking or what. Earlier this week I said Mizzou would have to bring it's "A" game and play "all 4 quarters" and they did neither. Strange game though, in the third quarter with OU up 21-14 the stats were run on the telecast and Mizzou was up in every category except the one that counts(the score). Then the tipped interception and it was all down here from there. What an offensive line OU has, average 6' 5" and 322 and the left tackle is 6'8" AND 352. Yes Joe Jon and the boys put an old fashined licking on my Tigers. Good luck in the fiesta bowl. The rumor mill in the Kansas City area was running wild Thursday. It was saying that Gary Pinkel was on Michigan's short list. Anyone else hear this and if so what did you make of it? Doug Licking my wounds but will survive!!!
  5. I can not reply to BMAN because I was not there. But I do feel compelled to relate my experiences with Jeremy Hunt. This spring I was satying at Lilley's and went to a fly tying class that Jeremy was putting on(I am a complete novice to flyfishing). Since then Jeremy has helped me set up all of my fly tying station and helped me get going. This September I went on my first flyfishing trip ever and I went with Jeremy. The parking lot was full at outlet 2 and as we approached the water we noticed that it was wall to wall from the cable down to Rebar. Jeremy told me that he really wanted to get me on the bank between outlet 2 and 3 but since it was occupied that we would try to hit it later. This early in the trip he started explaining stream ethics to me and explained why we would come back later. He took me down just above the big hole because it was open and he wanted some room to instruct me since this was my first time fly fishing. On the way down he was teaching me entymology and ethics. We came to the spot he wanted to fish(wide open) and he proceded to teach me the basics of casting. Then we started fishing and he put me on fish(with nobody around). We tried to go back up to the spot he wanted to put me on between the outlets but it was still being fished so he moved me upstream a little bit and put me on fish again. Now I did not land them all but that certainly was not Jeremy's fault. All in all a great learning experience. My point is this, I have met nothing but good people on this forum. A lot of people have answered a lot of what were probably stupid questions shortly after I joined this forum. Since I have joined I have made numerous aquaintences and all have been positive. For example, I bought a pair of boots from aeronikl. I picked these up when he was in my area and he was generous enough to discuss flyfishing with me for over an hour. What an education! I had some dealings recently with crippled caddis, What a class act. And so it goes. The people on this forum are all class individuals. Are we all human and do we make mistakes. Yes. Just please remember that when you point a finger at someone that the other fingers are pointing back at yourself. My two cents worth, Doug

    Mu Vs. Ou

Mizzou will have to bring it's "A" game and play ALL 4 QUARTERS. If they do this the Big 12 title will live in Columbia for the next year and it will be on to New Orleans. Go Tigers!!!! Just my opinion, Doug
  7. Amen to the Go Tigers!!! Happy thanksgiving everyone. Doug

    Hello

Welcome aboard Greg. Glad you took my advice. You will have a ball and get a ton of good info on this site. The people on this site are the CLASS of the ozarks. Doug Kiefer
  9. I went on my first flyfishing trip last week and missed a lot of fish simply because I did not see them. I have done my homework on previous posts and it seems that everyone is in agreement that Smith Action Optics in amber are the way to go. My question is are these the still the latest and greatest today? Thanks, Doug Kiefer
  10. Wow what a night. Congrats to both of you. Doug
  11. Went out with Jeremy Hunt this morning for a half day instructional trip. After he showed me some of the basics we started fishing. (my first time fly fishing). We worked from below outlet 2 all the way down through the big hole and down towards the boat ramp. I missed a lot of hookups I saw and a lot I didn't see. Jeremy said I missed the set on a real horse one time. He was just sick about it. I never saw it until it was to late. Did land eight though the largest being a rainbow between 17 and 18 inches. Had a ball and learned a ton from Jeremy. Yes I'm hooked. Have a new pastime now. Doug Kiefer
  12. Haapy birthday guys. May God bless you all in the coming year! Doug
  13. yes Dano I'm Having trouble with all small knots unless I am in brgiht sunlight with no shadows. Any help you have would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
  14. Thanks Tim, I'm on it. Doug
  15. Thanks Tim, I use reading glasses, opti visors and a bright light at home. At work(I supervise a blow mold shop)I use bi-focals and in a pinch opti visors. Not much problem in my office but out in the shop in low light conditions it becomes a problem. Thanks, Doug
  16. General question, my eyes are not as good as they used to be. Is there such a thing as a good knot tying tool or fixture on the market? And if so where can I find it? I'm looking for something to use while on the water. Thanks, Doug

    Dale Jr

My wife and I went to the nascar race last year at Kansas Speedway and I have not been that bored that bad very often in my life. The commercialism on the scoreboard and the PA system before the race was almost unbearable. Now to set the story straight I had been to IRL races before that. Much faster, but lower car counts and the back half of the pack looked like it did not even belong in the show. As far as World of Outlaws goes, Rusty you are right, this is the best racing in the world(I went to vo-tech with Danny Lasoski}. Wish there was not so many yellows though. As far as Dale JR goes, give him credit. He has marketed himself increibally. I am a Hendrick Motorsports fan and I have mixed feelings about him coming aboard. We will see how that goes. I am mainly an IRL Adretti Green Fan and this season has frustrated me to no end. Dario runs over people after the race is over. Danica Still kills her engine in the pits, and Tony still gets run into by his own teammates. Marco seems to go podium or invent new ways to self distruct. All in all though it is still just entertainment in the great toy store of life and I still love it. Just my opinion, Doug
  18. Looks a little dark. Other than that it looks fantastic. Doug
  19. Thanks flyfshn, I had not considered that approach. That is why I was asking about undergarment reccomendations. I will certainly check it out. Thanks, Doug
  20. Thanks, Tim Don't you have a shop over by Roaring River? I am going to be on Table Rock the last week of this month. Maybe I can stop by and meet you. Thanks, Doug
  21. I am going to Taney the first week of October and on the way I am going to stop and see Michael at BCO to purchase my first set of waders. I am going to get the Chota boots, but does anyone have any input on wheteher I should get the Simm's L2's or should I splurge foe the G3's. Also what would be a good vest and what should I be thinking about for undergarments. I have looked at Simm's and Fishpond vests and they both look good. Thanks, Doug
  22. I am going to Tablerock the last week of September. I am looking at Boomerang Resort. Anyone ever heard of it? If so where exactly is it, and does anyone have any ideas for bass, crappie and other panfish. Thanks, Doug
  23. I am going to Taney and will be based out of Lilley's the first week of October. Will be fly fishing for trout below the dam several days. My question is though, I will be renting one of Phil's bassboats for several days. Does anyone have any tips on what to do for bass, crappie and other panfish down lake. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
  24. I was supposed to go from Indepence, Mo. to Springfield this morning and look at waders at BCO, however the baseball tournament I was going to has been cancelled. So I am sitting here doing my due dillegence in catalogs and the internet on waders and boots. I would be interested in any comments you all have on Simms L2 waders and boots compared to Orvis Battenkill waders and Battenkill brouge boots. Also what are your opinions on studded and non studded for Taney and the white River? I'm a rookie and need all the help I can get, don't want to go crazy on money but I don't want junk either. Michael from BCO just returned my call, Thank you, you are the best. Thanks, Doug Kiefer
  25. Thanks for the input CC, I'll give it a try. Thanks, Doug
