Went out of State Park about 8:30 and fished until 4:30. Water temps 39 to 42, wind out of the SE 10 to 15. The only thing we could get bit on was natural colored jerkbaits all on the main lake. Ended up catching 8 bass, one muskie, and a very nice walleye that tasted really good! Best 5 would have gone 14 to 15 pounds. Talked with a number of guys who were not doing very well. Just a few more weeks! Todd

3/6 fished out of State Park, water temp 40 to 42, NE wind 5 to 10. First bank we pulled up on (main lake chunck rock) we caught 2 on the Wart and one on the stickbait. Went to a main lake channel swing bank and caught one a-rig and one stickbait fish. After that the fishing turned off and we only put 3 more keepers in the boat the rest of the day. Ended up having a small limit out of the 8 fish we caught.
3/7 fished out of Roark Bluff, water temp 39 to 43, SE wind 10 to 15. Spent most of the day up river, 7 fish on one point with white jerkbaits and chartruse/purple jerkbaits. Ran up into the timber a little bit and found a bluff bank that held some pretty nice brown/green jig fish. Also headed way on up the river but couldn't get bit. Best 5 would have gone 13+? Won't be long now, sure would like to be up there today fishing in the rain, I'll bet their really turned on. Tight Lines, Todd

I say it was the Honey Bunches of Oats that gave them such good luck!
Nice job all!

That's a great photo! Again, how do i find Techo? Is there a link for the Aunts Creek Moderator? or are you pulling my leg?
-
OK abkeenan, who is Techo? Thanks Harry J for the info about Pete!

Is there a place on the web where you can find current lake temps for T.R. Coming down next week to fish for a few days and was just wondering the lake temps, we'll be around the Aunts Creek area. Thanks in advance, Todd

Sounds good Nekia!

I did it, I finally purchased an Alabama Rig and fished it and fished it and fished it! Put on the water at State Park about 7:30 and fished until 4:30. Water temps are still very cold, 39 to 40 on main lake. S.W. breeze 10 to 15, bluebird skies. Out of the 9 hours I was on the water I chucked the A-Rig for 8 of those hours and man do I have a sore sholder this morning.
I must be crazy because I averaged 1 fish for every 2 hours I chucked that A-Rig. I ended up having 2 nice ones come unbuttoned at the boat, caught 3 keepers in the 2 to 4 pound range, and 1-14 inch one. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the A-Rig or not, it does catch quality fish but man what a grind on your body! I'm sure I will give it another try, it should get better as the water warms up some. I caught the fish on deep main lake points with wind on them.....go figure. Spring Break is next week and man I hope it warms up some, however the 7 day forecast looks horrible. Tight Lines All, Todd

Yes it is 9LB.
-
9LB, no we fished around the Old State Park area. It was really weird that the fish shut off for us too after 10:00. What were you fishing for?
-
Maybe I should start off with lack of bass report. Put in @ Old State Park about 9:00 and had 2 keepers and a couple of shorts in the boat by 10:15, we thought this was going to be a kick-butt day. After those fish were caught we went 5 hours with out another bite. Ended up catching a total of 8 bass on jigs, finess works, and jerkbatis. Water temps stayed right around 40 all day, fishing was slow for us but great weather for February! We did listen to the tourney results at Old State Park and it took over 18lbs to win, 3rd place had 15lbs, and 7+ pounds was big fish. Somebody always figures them out. Todd
-
Looks like I will try and head out on Sunday, if the weather forecast holds. 9lb, if you see a black Champion with a Merc on the back stop over and say hi, if I see your Tracker I'll do the same. Good Luck!

I would stay on the main lake, pending on the wind direction I would launch at State Park or at Old State Park. From there I would fish main lake points that have deeper water on them. Slow moving jerkbaits, test a variety of colors, and small finess jigs fishec slowly in some type of green color should be the ticket. If you have wind blowing onto a point don't hesitate to pitch that jerkbait right into the waves & froth. It's going to be a cold week so don't move your baits too fast, the bass will just watch your bait go by................. Good luck, keep us posted on your success!

Fished from 9:00 to 4:00 today, water temp was 40/41, wind out of the SE @ 15. Didn't have a fish in the boat, let alone a bite until 1:00. Partner & I ended up catching about a dozen, 5 keepers that would have gone 13#'s. Also had two of those toothy fish, one was 36" and the other was 25"...they hammered the jerkbait. Caught most of the bass on jerbaits in 3 to 10 feet of water on a windy, timbered point. The biggest keeper came on a swimbait and caught a couple on the 4" finess worm on the shakey-head.

I have not been over to Old State Park recently but I can tell you that State Park is just fine, was just up there on Sunday. If the ramp is dry you should have no issues at all.
-
I was told that I should go fish the Saddle at Stockton, in all my years of going up there I have never heard of the "Saddle". Can someone tell me where it's located.......if it's not a big secret. I'm headed back up tomorrow and thought I would check out that area if I'm on that part of the lake. Thanks in advance, Todd

I just sent you a message, didn't see the one you just sent.

Great job Skeeter, happy to hear you figured them out! Were you up by the State Park area in a red & white Skeeter?
-
On the water about 8:30 out of State Park. Two of us fishing; one guy & one keeper, the other guy one keeper and maybe 3 shorts. Fished a hard 8 hours on main lake points and small cuts with jerkbaits and finess worms. BIG case of lock-jaw. Anybody else figure them out today? Tight Lines, Todd

Practicing water conservation at home & work is a great way to help with the water issues we all face. One day in the future water will be more valuable than gold, we can't survive without it......!!
If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down!

Let's do it Jose', would have loved you joining me on Wednesday! It's was a great day on the water! The next nice day after the 1st of Feb. I'm headed back up! If you can join me maybe I'll actually pull out the crappie rod!

I'm looking for a lakeside cabin rental for this coming June, would love to have the following:
- Must be lakeside
- Covered boat dock, I'll be bringing my bass boat
- Would be nice to have a launch ramp close by
- Pontoon Rental
- 2 Bedroom w/ kitchen
- BBQ Grill
- Availability to have a campfire on the shore of the lake
- Prefer James River arm but will look at other areas
Don't need anything fancy, just a nice cozy cabin on the water to share with the Mrs. and another couple.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What a great day on the water! Put in @ State Park about 9:00 and fished the entrance of Maze Creek and directly across the main lake from Maze Creek. As usual I caught most of the bass on the finess worm on the shakey head and also on a white jerk bait. The difference today was that I caught almost all keepers, 9 out of the 12 bass caught today were really fat, healthy 15 to 17 inch bass. Saw a ton of bald eagles today on a mostly glassy day on the lake, what breeze did blow came out of the north. Water temp was 39 to 40 and I pulled out of the lake at 5:00. Did I mention it was a great day on the water? Tight Lines, Todd

Anyone want to go out fishing tomorrow, get on the water about 8:30ish and back to Springfield around 5:00? Send me a message on this site with your phone number. Todd
