wormwalker, you should be fine to wade. it will be up but not muddy and some of the best fishing is at the level its at now. as long as it dont rain all night, you should be ok. do you fish cardiac alot?
-
i will be down fishing thursday, friday, and saturday night and plan on fishing it harder than i ever had. i believe there is some good oppurtunities at a good brown(as there always is) but rumor has it there are some really big browns around. so-if anyone wants to join, let me know i will have the cooler jammed full of red bulls, adrenaline rushes, and full throttles so there wont be any excuses

tailwater, as of lately i have only been fishing up above cardiac. how is it downstream around suicide?
-
sounds like it was a tough day\ i agree with you that they have been putting in alot nicer fish this year and hopefully those fish you caught and seen were just part of a "bad batch". I have not fished the park in awhile and probably will not until c and r season, but the trophy area has been good as of lately. They average 13+ inches with good girth, nice red stripe, white tipped fins and fight out of this world. if you have not been down there, i reccomend giving it a try

i saw a guy fishing at montauk with an ipod-to me it just doesnt make alot of sense

kc fisher. the first few times i went out night fishing, i got discouraged. i didnt have a guide and was too stubborn to hire a guide(since i could catch fish in the daytime just fine, i just figured night fishing wasnt all that good-boy was i wrong.) i dont know any of the other night guides but i have talked to leonard alot and fished with some and it really helped and now i prefer night fishing. why dont you pm leonard and im sure he can book you up for a guide. it will be worth it-i promise

deep diving crawdad in eddies-excellent for smallmouth(make sure they are deep diving)color doesnt matter

this whole bashing leonard thing is becoming a joke. leonard might as well not even be on this site(since he makes up the biggest part of the night time section of this site)and he might as well not show pics, what he used, when, etc.etc. If you disagree with everything that leonard does then why even click on a thread started by leonard. its quite comical with the amount of jealousy as most of the people downing leonard probably do not have as much experience and knowledge as he does.it seems that lately everty post leonard has started, has always ended up in a bash towards him. it didnt seem like it was like this last year, but i may be wrong-i dont know

Best Lures/Bait/Flies for Maramac Springs
Center Punch replied to puffydisc's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
ultralight-best jig- without a question the rubber band jig(green and white) nothing comes close to that from my experience. best dough bait-not sure as i dont use it but i would have to say some dough bait with alot of chrisco in it as it gives an oil affect(as you can see i have no idea what i am talking about fly rod- best fly-best all around fly to fish every hole that the park has to offer is a size 8 weighted olive, black, or white zonker.(mind you i said to fish every hole in the park ) i have a question? how well do the rapalas and such work in the park, i know they work well in trophy area-just curious because i never used them in the park -
got down to cardiac access at around 11:30 and started fishing at about 12:00 went upstream, doing really well on scuds and midges. all the fish were really healthy and girthy. didnt really have one hole better than the other as all holes produced fish(even the slow shallow ones) did however see many aluminum gators though. but that didnt seem to bother the fish that much-it just made it difficult when you were hooked up to a fish while manuevering between canoes(happened alot) i lost count but there were probably a good 40 + floaters that went by. anyway, i walked up past the dryfork to the s bend pilings. spotted a good brown(19 inch?) not interested so i rerigged for heavier tippet and through a new pattern(sorry, not new but new to me) that i have been messing with, which is a leech pattern and he took it first cast but my reactions were that of a tortouise and he spit it back out. that was the nicest fish i saw all day but i did manage to get a couple in the 16-17 inch neighborhood. on the way back down, i had one thing on my mind:water. i shot straight down and saw another fisherman hooking up to quite a few. low and behold its my brother, topjaw. i couldnt believe he was fishing-i mean the old lady had some tight wraps around him and he was actually fishing. fished with him a couple more hours picking up few here and few there(he had extra water) above average day considering all the river traffic. i ended up landing about 40 or so between 12:00 and 7:00

definitely a nice evening on meramec(i guess everybody was afraid of the aluminum gators cause it was a little spooky down there without anyone else down there) fish bite was real good as long as you drifted within a foot of them and as it got darker the bite got better. missed many, landed quite of few, snapped several times, typical outing on maramec. flyfshn-we will have to meet up again

i will be down casting in between drunken aluminum. why not? everyones doin it

wow! does nobody fish this park?
Center Punch replied to Center Punch's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
flyfhsn, there is no fly fishing section. I wish that the area above the cable was open to c and r but its not. it sure is fun during c and r season though(more fly fisherman then) SIO3 let me know next time your goin-always enjoy fishing with others(and that goes for any body) -
mo trout bum i understand what you are saying and i agree with you. I just dont think leonard should get alot of crap just for not coming right out and displaying his flies. I dont really care one way or another. I dont believe this thread should have even been started in the first place(It has gone nowhere and is pointless) This forum is to find info: not trying to bring one of the best local fisherman down. I believe there is alot of jealousy but what do i know. Im just saying, its his choice just like it would be your choice if you came up with a pattern(yeah it has probably been made, but if you are not aware that the pattern exists then in my opinion, it is a new pattern for yourself) Besides, I dont think Leonard is the type of individual that would not show you what he was using when you ask him. my .02 cents and i am officially out of this topic

If this post is about Leonards pms fly(which i think it is) then no it is not a secret because as leonard stated there are a few people who have used it. I do believe however, that the fly will have a "low profile" until early next year. It seems like it is going to be a big brown producer and if that means not showing other guides then so be it. Like all businesses why would you show your competitors your strategy. I dont think leonard is reluctant to show it off but I have seen this fly and even though any of us could have thought of the pattern, it seems to be a fish killer(i have used it and there is something about that fly). Im sure if Leonard wasnt a guide and trying to run a business, he would be more prone into showing it off. you cant blame him from keeping it a secret from his competitors though i believe for the most part though that all fly fishing insights should be shared so we can all develop better understandings

Looking at the topics, Maramecs most recent topic was a month ago when the other parks are within a couple days. Just wandering whats going on. need reports. come on guys and gals

went fishing at cardiac fri night(from 7:30 p.m. to about 10:00 with a buddy. started off decent just before dark with scuds under an indicator. we each landed a couple before it got real dark. It was an overcast night with some t-storms around the area. For whatever reason, that turned them on because it was hot the whole time. I think i landed a good 20 fish from 8 til 10 and he caught half that. So far this has been the best night i had for numbers. Size was down with average of 12 inches and no fish exceeding 15 inches. He was ready to go so we decided to quit on a good note(good thing because it started storming down there shortly after) Saturday, me and jrbhc8 went from about 2:00 til 6:30? and didnt do nearly as good. A couple here and there with scuds doing the best. Didnt see alot of fish but I think all the canoes had something to do with that. Probably had 30+ canoes go by which kept the fish moving.

flyfishin sounds good-just pm me when you want to go-i try to go as often as possible around work

took cardiac access with john(jrbhc8) yesterday and went up. caught several average 13 inchers with a 1 or 2 mixed in 15 inchers. caught on both midges and sow bugs set fairly deep(river up from what it was a little) i spotted a nice brown but it saw me first and spooked. i basically froze right there hoping the brown would come back to his feeding lane. sure enough it did and i was set. It took several drifts to get my depth right. but then a pop up shower came and it was enough to break up the water where i couldnt see into it. I still knew right where it was sitting and then indicator goes under, set the hook, and the fish goes nuts. up, down, in, out, tried to get me tangled in every possible hang up known to man. finally got it landed. its not a fatty but healthy fish and designed like a torpedo. 22 inch 4 lb brown-nice fish for meramec this time of year. caught it above deep plunge pool which is right above cabin.

fished from cardiac hill up to the beginning of maramec sat night(sunday morning) from about 1:30a.m. until 1:30 p.m. john, the one i usually fish with tagged along for some night action on the meramec. started slow. only had 3 between the 2 of us in the first hour and a half or so. it seemed that the spots that are usually good for us didnt produce that night and vice-versa. we really started getting in to them about half way up. the best fly for the night was Leonard's "instant classic fly" the P.M.S. it performed exceptionally well on the maremec as it always does on taneycomo. For the next 2 and a half to 3 hours we were hitting fish on a regular basis. we each had 15-20 fish and twice as many misses. the average fish went about 16 inches with the biggest being about 17-18 inches. john lost a nice one that he seemed to think was about 4 lbs and he usually underguesses fish. nonetheless, a real nice bow for maramec this time of year. I would have to rate that night well above average. Only 2 other fish were caught on a different sculpin pattern-all the others were caught on a pms(of course, we were using it most of the time) Well, it turned light on us and we just kept going. we caught more in the day time but hey, we could see. sight fished mostly picking up 3 and 4 fish in about every hole. from 6:00 am to about 1:00 we caught many fish but didnt really count them- i would say an easy 20-25 fish each. this was not with the pms but with various midges, sow bugs, etc. good night/day fishing but i was completely worthless at work today

nice fish leonard. good fathers day present
-
jrbhc8 and myself went again today. I tied up some new patterns and have a new leech pattern that is absolutely dynamite. need to tie up a hundred of these. anyway, caught some decent fish today but no real monsters. only have one pic for you all today 6 lb brown caught on a big black egg sucking leach
-
i did try one of those big flies. it works pretty good there too. caught a couple smaller ones and lost a nice 6-7 lb rainbow on it. had a ton of fish come up and short hit it but couldnt set. on a side note: the big brown was swimming with about a 12 inch rainbow in the side of his mouth. then, for whatever reason, he dropped it and i caught him 5 minutes later

another thanks, im glad you saved them for me another-i didnt have the boga grips so we guessed on weight
