jrbhc8 and myself went down yesterday and explored. It was an awesome day for not only quality trout but the bite was on too. ok-to the big ones: caught about 10 fish over 3 1/2 lbs ranging from 3 1/2 to 10 lbs. including 10 lb rainbow and 7 lb brown(oh they looks so small in my shrek hands) pics

holy smokes. please tell me you boated it up to rebar hole and let it go there leonard and duckdoty need something to fight over
-
awesome and i hope you get it. just remember there arent as many big ones and there is plenty of smaller ones for the fryin pan. good luck and i may be down saturday john, the winston is mud proof...just not sure if its water proof. i guess i will have to look at the owners manual again. (is my reel on the right end of the rod???)

here is some motivation for opening week. these are the ones i caught a little over 2 weeks ago another last one
-
shawncat, you mean to tell me that you can actually win stuff. all this time i thought you had to be under 15 to win prizes. say, they dont happen to give a free bass boat to one lucky winner do they? i would love to at least try out the opening day thing but i may have to wait til the weekend. anybody fishing the weekend and if so, lets meet up

if i go(which i will probably let you guys have at it) i will be the one wearing waders and having a fishing pole in my hand. you cant miss me

i was fishing from the second parking lot from the spring. caught one right where the parking lot is, one about 150 yards down,(past some fast riffles) where there are 2 big bolders that create a eddy and the other down another 200 yards where the river just makes a bin to the right and you can walk on the trail and look down and see just about everything. i was using 6x tippet and scud as a fly. i know i was fishing in the fly only section when i caught these 3. hope this helps

decided to try montauk and glad i did. will post pics soon but to sum it up i had 3 lunkers. weighed one on boga grips at 9 lbs, had another guy weigh another at 7 lbs and also had one other that i dint weigh but probably went 7 lbs as well great day to be fishing. will definitely be going back. just wish i had more time to fish the whole part. it is a great park and i didnt realize how much good fly water it had. dont even know what holes i was fishin but i was fishin so i guess thats all that matters (at least i found my way back home..well.. i guess??)

as seth said they have put huge boulders in but they have done it the whole length of the park. they make for good holding areas now but watch out. those big ones will try to wrap you every time below the cable where the split river comes back into 1 again, they have cleaned out the bottom making it deeper. here there is one tree down from storms but everything else is normal.
-
seth, i was using slightly weighted woolies that may have been about a foot and a half deep. they will come up and grab them even just below the surface are you going to be down there tomorrow?
-
seth, i went by myself today but there were about a dozen other people there as well. i caught a lot of fish and the bite never slowed. biggest landed was a 5 and 1/2 lb male rainbow. i have a pic but will post later. caught a few others in the 4-5 lb range and i caught well over a dozen 2 and 1/2 lbers(the ones you can barely grip with one hand;and i have big hands) caught about 50-60 fish fishing with leeches, sculpins, scuds, and woolies water is up at least a foot or 2 and is very cloudy but the big ones are back, so i actually prefer it the way it is now. if you like sightfishing you still can but keep your attention on the banks
-
seth, i am for sure going so let me know if you are. i am driving the big red dodge
-
seth, i gotta work saturday but i will probably go sunday. we may have us some snow on the ground by then. bet the river wont be that crowded what kind of fly rod did you get??
-
myself, jrbhc8, a non member from here and possibly wet dreams are going fishing sunday if anyone wants to join. it would be cool to fish with some of the local ozark anglers members. i will start tying flies to have enough by sunday. let me know either by pm or replying on here if you want to meet up
-
rookie, as greg said. they are open 7 days. i believe that they only charge you for parking friday, saturday, and sunday(the other days are free) as for what they are biting on. i like a scud down there. any color will due(olive, tan, grey, brown, etc) san juans work well and small egg patterns are hot when there hot and not when there not. have caught some on elk hairs cracklebacks and emergers but i dont mess with them enough to really say how good they are. in the still water some of the unweighted leeches or woolies will get the attention of some of the bigger fish but in the faster water no doubt i prefer a scud. hope this helps

fished today(christmas eve)

Alot of the bigger fish you see beat up on the nose and head area is not from hitting the concrete walls.(some hatchery fish do have marks from walls) But from gathering food hey shawn, once they gather the food, where do they put it. do they bury it like squirrels do??? lol -

myself and jrbhc8 went down today but had to call a day short because he had his own things going on and my sister flew in from maryland. anyway to the fishing report: started off where log stretches across water. john was working a 6 lber above and i was working a 5-6 lber below. couldnt hook up to either fish. headed down and caught a few smaller ones. found a real nice rainbow that was active moving in and out of its feeding lane. hooked it second drift and had it on for about 5 seconds and spit. est 8 lb fish. the big ones were harder to find today. anyway to sum it up before we left i got into a real nice rainbow(25 inch 8 lber)pics to follow. caught another one about 4 lbs but the sliipery thing got away before john could snap pics. spotted another one but we really had to get going so we didnt get the time to fish like we planned. here is the 8 lber. i think you will like the markings on this fish

drew just let me know when you will be down there again and we may meet up. having fished this park/river alot, i know alot of the ins and outs that this place has to offer.
-
drew, during the catch and keep season, this park is a total different animal. everybody keeps everything and these big ones will either hide or get caught and kept. you can find big ones, but they spook easily and are harder to catch. it is more crowded. everything goes from live bait, power bait to flies. and also the obvious that the fish are kept. unfortunately you dont usally see the big ones that time of year, but every once in awhile you might find one especially in the trophy area. in my opinion, they should extend the fishing area upward past the cable. there are some very nice holes and water above the cable toward the spring. they should allow fishing in that area down to the cable and make it for catch and release only. the park is just too small to have specified zones like benett has. here are a couple pics from wednesday another one other

allright wet dreams, you had your fun. now its time for my story and the real story. first of all, i caught this exact fish or twin of this fish before wet dreams even woke up(he may have been having a wet dream of catching this fish ) i actually caught it which i had another guy snap a couple pics and i caught it one more time when wet dreams was there. (at least i think) the picture of the fish that i caught when wet dreams was down and the pic i got when he wasnt down almost look like 2 different fish. i measured the first one at 30 inches even and 18 inch girth. i didnt measure the 2nd one because i thought it was the same fish. it still may be but now we will never know. nonetheless, i am going to post a couple pics. i know this sounds nuts but my day was far from perfect. i ran out of tippet and patience in a hurry. about every dang fish i hooked would spit and throw me right up in the trees. (sometimes i wander how in the heck does a guy get so tangled up???) anyway after about 10 tippet, weight, fly, and some times indicators got stuck in trees i finally got in the groove catching about 4 fish in the 4-5 lb range and about 30 other fish between a lb. and 3lbs. i will post pics tonight oh yeah. myself, jrbhc8, and wet dreams are going to be down tomorrow. i am out of 6x fluorocarbon so dont accidentally leave any laying around or i might take it when like to meet up with some people but i know its christmas eve and all later oh yeah! since wet dreams failed to mention. the fish spit because his inexperience of fishing put his fly line right up in some tree limbs. even i know that you cannot catch fish in the trees(do not read above post) hey wet dreams, do you think i should post my 37 inch brown that i caught the same day??

john, again thats one hell of a fish. oh yeah and as far as the net job goes, i do what i can. although i didnt land one this big today, i did land my fair share of nice ones. put 3 in the net that were all between 5 and 6 lbs and a couple others in the 3-4 lb range. caught alot of fish and missed alot more. broke off on app 7 lb rainbow that took me for a ride. it took me straight across the river and almost went coasting up on the opposite bank. then it screamed upstream wrapping my flyline around a rock. it jumped way out of the air 2 times and then snapped me. that fish definitely owned any chance i had of even putting a net near that fish. i will post pics of some that i caught tomorrow or next day. too tired tonight.
