  1. I should be able to make that meeting. thanks. Another thought . Maybe not have an offical tourney that we have to get approval for this first time. But maybe just have a get together tourney and throw a little gas money in the pot just among friends. Then maybe we can start an OAF club and build from there.
  2. Count me in with a boat (except for the week of June 11) I'm game for however we need to do it. Once again I will say though as far as a meeting it needs to be at a more convenient time for those of us who work. I don't know if the majority of people live around Springfield but if so it would be better to have it near town of an evening. Your Friday night idea isn't bad but for me I would not get off work in time to drive that far for the meeting. Just my input.
  3. Four of us in two boats got started about 8pm sunday night. We caught 7 keeper crappie and one nice white by 10:30 and that was it. Couldn't buy a bite after that. Finally quit at 12:30am. Apparantly no body esle was having luck either because there was a constant stream of boats loading up. Had real good luck two previous friday nights guess i better stick to fridays. So what was discussed at the gatherin meeting about a tourney? Have'nt seen any postings on what was decided.
  4. ya that store at everton is never reliable for minnows. they dont open till 7 if your lucky and they dont keep the minnow tank properly maintained. I used to stop there on saturday mornings and they would be out. they said we get our minnow order on friday and always sell out. DUH buy more!!!!!!! the one time i did stop there and get some this spring they jacked the price up almost double. Im done with them.
  5. Btlife......I too live close to there. Maybe we are neighbors. I am close to oak grove and catalpa.
  6. I agree Justin
  7. Yep. I think I know that 10lb bass.
  8. All I do on the white bass is trim as much of the dark meat off the filet as possiable. You cant really get it all but the darkest strip down the center is the most important. Then I just soak in salt water overnight if possiable but have for just a short time too if going to eat some right away. If you will cut your filets in smaller pieces I think you will find they will fry crisper and have less fishy taste which is the way my wife prefers them. I also like to use McCormicks Cajun seasoning. It has nice flavor without to much spice. Happy eating. P.S. Dont forget the fried potatoes and onions.
  9. Nice job everyone. Wish I could have hunted more days. Just to busy a work. I usually get several rain days during the season to go but not this year. Guess i shouldn't complain. I sat at home alot when the economy crashed a few years ago.
  10. Forgot. Congrats to your wife strawhat. Maybe she can teach you sometime. Haha. Heck maybe she can teach me. Does she want to be my partner in our little tourney?
  11. Brian, I always fished the Greenfield area till I got talked into to trying Cedar Ridge. I fish Greenfield in early spring during spawn then move to Cedar for the rest of the year. I have always caught more fish and bigger fish there. Nice area and far enough away from the big water where the recreational boaters are. Lots of close brush piles and can always catch around the bridge.
  12. As for me I will be working. Are you talking about just meeting to discuss the tourney or fishing then. Unless it rains I work till about 6pm everyday. From the posts I read all the time it seems as though alot of you are retired or otherwise work different schedules because of the times you get to fish. (IM JEALOUS) I understand not everyone can make it but I feel an evening meeting and a weekend tourney will be best. Just my thoughts.
  13. I am using a white floater and a green sub. I seem to catch all of the crappie below the white floater off the top of the brush pile on minnows but I will pick one up now and then casting out with a jig coming back to the white light. Both night fishing trips have produced the same results with more white bass around the green sub. Good luck.
  14. Took 2 guests with me, Started about 7:30 put lights out at dark. Crappie was slow but i managed to catch 10 keepers and 1 short and my guests only caught 1 each. But the white bass started early and got busier and bigger as the night went on. Ended with 3 limits of them and pulled out at 2:30am. Had a very fun night. Fished over brush pile in 20 fow. Whites would hit any jig thrown.
  15. Im in all the above. I have a boat. I have a fish fryer. And I love to eat fish. June 2nd works good for me as I will be in Florida for my sons wedding the following two saturdays. But I know we cant fit into everyones schedule so what ever the majority can do we have to work. I do think we need to have a little meeting soon to decide some of the issues. Would this be a members only to fish or one member per boat as my regular fishing partner is not a member on here but he would understand. I dont have a problem with drawing for a partner or teaming up with a member to keep it members only. Just some of the questions to think about. I have never had anything to do with a fish tourney but if you need someone to run a poker tourney Im your man. My email is scarter57@att.net if anyone needs to get ahold of me. anybody fishing friday night or sat. night out of cedar ridge. I plan on being there. Im in a red and silver Stratus with Evinrude.
  16. Don't you wish you could have let the 3 bearded jake grow up and get him when he was a big boy. I have never seen a multi bearded jake before. Guess I always figured that came with age on selected birds. Been there on the miss before too. Had a dude shell last year that cost me a nice bird. Glad to here you had some luck.
  17. Lets get some other replys of interest then maybe we can form a committee or have a group meeting some night and set it up. Anybody that is interested please post and lets see if we can make this happen.
  18. Any one have good luck this turkey season? I only got to go 3 times and never saw a bird while hunting. Most people I have talked to had the same story. I saw a hen yesterday with 6 little ones following her. Way early for that like everything else.
  19. I vote crappie. To much work for bass. lol
  20. I agree Fishbait. I was just thinking today that we need a special wave or something so we could identify each other so we could meet. I like Justins idea of having a tourney. Good ideas guys. I'm in. I nominate Fishbait to be chairman.
  21. Awesome!!!! Congrats.
  22. Yep, sorry that I didnt get this posted sooner. Man we hit the jackpot friday night at cedar ridge. Decided to try the night fishing gig. Took my son in law with me. Started fishing about 7:30 and was really disappointed. Thought it was going to be a real early night. We could not hardly buy a bite for 3 hours. Put the lights in at dusk. One green submersialble and one white floating. Then about 10:30 the action started, not real fast but at least it was action. Was fishing over a brush pile in 21fow using minnows and jigs. Most fish were caught about 12 ft deep. As the time went by the action got busier. A lot of nice crappie. We only had three shorts all night. By midnight the white bass came in hard. Son in law had to go to one rod and could barely get it in the water before a white snatched his minnow. But he did manage to catch a good number. I caught more crappie under the white light and my minnow was not bothered by the whites but I did catch a lot of both on jigs. We finally quit at 1:30am with 28 crappie and 20 white bass and 1 eye. Also had 2 short eyes. And of course I had to clean all the fish by my self sat. morning. Was busy with mothers day activities the rest of the weekend or I would have gotten this on here sooner. The only bad part of this kind of success for me is that I have to wait a whole week before I can go again. Good luck everyone.
  23. thanks guys. maybe i will see you out there.
  24. thanks for that report. were you fishing any particular structure like brush piles etc?
