I've been planning a Smallmouth trip for this week. Well the original plan was going to Wilson Lake in KS, but wind is 45+mph, so I decided to take my try at the Elk.
But I've never been there, driven there, or even seen anything there.
I have Russ's number that I'm going to be giving him a call this week for possible help with putting in and taking out.
I'm wondering what advice can be gave to a River Virgin, and someone that isn't expeirenced in smallmouth fishing.
I'm a Green fish man that fish flat water. So new species, and moving water can be a bit overwelming. I've caught maybe 4 or 5 Smallmouths in my life. 2 on a Spoon and 2 or 3 on a white grub. That's it.
So any advice is appreciated. I'll be heading out and getting there approx 8am Thursday and fishing till Friday around lunch.
Weather reports say that there is suppose to me a slight wind about 10mph. How does the wind effect the river? Is it protected for the most part?
I fish from a SOT Kayak.
Thanks again, sorry for the jumbled pile of mess. :/
