  1. The $100 purses are actually the ones on clearance. The "good" ones are $500 and up. I don't understand the hype. They all function the same. Fishing reels on the other hand....!
  2. That's pretty good for only 2 hrs of fishing.
  3. Are you using flouro or mono? And is the bite aggressive or more subtle? And how to set the hook (do you count to 3 then jerk, immediate jerk, just load up and reel, etc)?
  4. Anybody got a picture of this amazing ned head from this Dave guy? I'm gonna be honest here and say I'm late to the party and never fished this Ned rig thing before. What size is a good all around weight to carry? Does super glue deter bass from biting? What type of line to use and what weight? Sorry so many questions, I'm fairly new to the ned party. And can I buy them at a local store anywhere? Or are they made to order only? I kinda need a few for this weekend.
  5. I think you need a bigger puddle than Table Rock for that boat. Sheesh. lol.
  6. Nice double. I have never landed a double on a topwater. But I don't often fish for bass all that much anymore either.
  7. I've noticed some small shad (threadfin?) spawning in some areas of the lake ALL day, but most people say it only happens at early dawn before sunrise. So I'm a bit confused. They're small so can't be gizzard shad, can anyone explain why they spawn all day in some areas and only in the mornings at certain areas or times?
  8. There are no bass in Beaver. What are you all talking about.
  9. But a plopper is a topwater lure isn't it? So you wouldn't really need to retie very often if the line never touches a rock, wood, debris or gravel, unless your rod guides are all chipped and damaged. I retie very often when fishing any other lure. But on topwater I don't check as often unless I'm catching fish with teeth or casting onto the bank with gravel/rocks.
  10. ....to keep the drunks and pleasure boats off the water. Hoping for some 50 degree weather with rain and wind. I know it's their lake too, but I'm selfish. And let's be honest, you would love to see them go away too. So please join me in a little prayer.
  11. How do you lose a topwater lure? Are you catching trees on the bank? Big fish break it off? There's not many rocks that float so I was just wondering. Jigs I can understand losing a few, but a topwater lure normally floats so even if it breaks off when you throw it you can still go get it.
  12. Mind bleach lol....I'm gonna need something stronger.
  13. Who makes Pflueger reels? Edit: Meant where are they made?
  14. I like the lip on the Abu Revo spinning reels. They get great reviews everywhere I see them for sale. I'm surprised you think otherwise. What kind of problems are you having?
  15. Don't be sending all the traffic to Bull now. There's no fish at Bull Shoals folks.
  16. It's gonna be a zoo. The only time all year where you can walk on water and not get your foot wet.
  17. Oh no I got the joke. And nope not even offended. Just didn't find it funny. And yea my family absolutely loves fishing too, but that doesn't mean I can be reckless with spending money towards it. I have decided that a $100 reel should be more than adequate for the type of fishing I do. As many have already pointed out, with today's technology and engineering there are many outstanding reels to be had for that amount of money.
  18. Was thinking about coming down one of these days to try for some whites in the early mornings and wondering if anyone has been seeing them schooling or chasing shad anywhere recently with any regularity?
  19. A great man never sees his family as a burden nor put fishing before his family. I am at the last stage, and as much as I love fishing, it still comes second to my family. So I don't understand your meme. You must find it funny though.
  20. We live very comfortably thank you. I'm glad I have someone to keep me in check so I don't end up spending more than I should on a hobby. Fishing is not something I do for a living, so it doesn't make sense to drop a ton of money on a reel. My wife understands I'm very passionate about fishing and my many other expensive outdoor hobbies, but I gotta understand I gotta be reasonable with her too. She supports everything I do and has sacrificed so much so I can keep doing what I love outdoors. She takes care of 2 crazy little ones and puts a warm meal on the table for me when I get home no matter how late. I don't miss my single life and don't wish things were any different. If anything, I owe her some very expensive favors and some long overdue dates.
  21. I had a wiper take one of my setups before while I had it laying on a rock on the shore. I caught it back on the very next cast with my other rod. When it happened I had thought I caught another fish, but reeled in the rod instead. I felt something tugging on the end of the line and kept tension on the line and happened to untangle the birds nest between the two lines by cutting line with my teeth one rod in each hand. After cutting as much line as I could with my teeth to undo the birds nest I was able to drop the other rod to the ground and reel in the old rod that still had the wiper attached and actually landed it without losing it. Things like that happen only once every black president.
  22. You're one lucky man Champ. Although I'm not wishing she was anything else. I love her to death and she lets me fish whenever I ask and makes me a sammich when I get home so I guess I'll keep her around. She doesn't understand why I need a $100 reel as much as I don't understand why she needs a $100 purse.
  23. You don't have to convince me to spend another $29 bucks. But you'll have to convince my other half. She thinks $29 would be more than enough to buy me a new reel with a rod attached to it and a small tackle box full of goodies wrapped up in one package. I can buy the coffee and you can pick the place and I'll bring her and you can have at it. Trust me it wasn't easy asking for $100. I sat through 2 Twilight movies and 2 dinners with my mother in law for that much money. So you have your work cut out for you.
  24. Yea that and aren't they the ones that have the helical gearing? Is that any good? Edit: Nevermind......Okuma are the ones who use helical gearing.
  25. Man that reel looks really good but I can't find the one I want in stock anywhere. I want the 35x size and can't find it anywhere.
