  1. I am going to the white river on Saturday. Hopefully it will be improved. If so the next thing I will need to do is convert it to an electric start. I am getting too old to be yanking on a danged pull start. Thanks again guys for all your advise.
  2. That would be nice!
  3. The gap is less than a 1/16"between the I.D. of the impeller housing and the O.D. of the impeller.
  4. So I think this is an improvement. I saw no indication that the impeller was ever filed. The impeller may have been new and just "rode hard and put away wet."
  5. So I think this is an improvement
  6. Well this morning I checked the throttle travel and the throttle opens completely. How do I check the trigger coils? I took the impeller housing off and this is what I found. The edges look to be pretty blunt (.091") The impeller housing looks pretty chewed up. What do you use for shims and where do you get them? Thanks for all the helpful comments guys I appreciate all of your feedback.
  7. Thanks! I will check that out. The guy that sold it to me said he just had the pump rebuilt at Big River Marine. Thanks for the advise! I appreciate it.
  8. Guys, I am looking for a clean 40hp jet electric start outboard. Please send me a PM if you have one for sale. I have a 1984 25hp mercury jet for sale because it is too small for my boat. Thanks, Ed
  9. I hit the river this morning late; about 9:00 am. My river scooter is more like a river crawler. It runs top end maybe 10 mph. Not really getting up on plane. I put in at Redhorse and went upstream about 4 miles or so. I did manage to catch 2 smallies and a decent largemouth. Looks like I am going to need a 40 hp.
  10. I have lived in northwest Florida for over 21 years and love fishing there. This time of year there are large migrations of bait fish migrating out of the bays into the Gulf. This Attracts lady fish enmasse which in turn attracts lots of sharks. I have had my best luck on outgoing tides. Lady fish can easily be caught but they like fast moving presentation. They like top water baits like Zara spooks. Sharks love lady fish so if you can catch a small one 10-12 inches fish it under a ballon as a bobber you will have a good chance of getting it eaten.
  11. My favorite is the black blotch coloration that seem to occur when they spawn. That is fairly common is to grand lake.
  12. I have caught poor mans bonefish (carp) on flies. Big buggies looking wooly buggers, Craw imitators etc. nothing like catching a 20# plus carp on a 6wt. I fished the Rainy lake system in 2000 and we did well. The bugs should not be too bad this time of year. Have a great time, I wish I was going.
  13. Mitch, I Llc drag you up there sometime. Amazing clear water and massive "green" bass ( that's what my granny called them)
  14. LOL! Those were pictures taken over the last ten years. But nearly every trip I will take a toad over 5 pounds. One lake produced the state record of 9.98 lbs. Of course the guy caught it off his dock on a danged worm!
  15. The relative remoteness has resulted in fishing 5000 acre lake and not seeing more than one or two other bass boats. Everybody up there fishes for table fish like perch, walleye or pike.
  16. I have heard of truck break-ins at some of the access points, I am planning on launching at river round on Sunday morning. Have there been any breakins down there?
  17. Yes they do. In two years of fishing I have not caught a crappie smaller than 10" the only problem is I have only caught 2. Too many largemouth. In keeping with the advise given by state fisheries biologists I have encouraged my neighbors to kill those under 15". Since the lake is overrun with mature bass in the 10-13 inch range.
  18. Yup, off PP. in the Lake St. Clair subdivision. A 60-70 acre lake. Loaded with largemouth and mega bluegills.
  19. I have been making the trek up to the northern lower peninsula of Michigan for many years and have caught many more smallmouth than I will ever deserve. The pics attached is a small sample of some of the best smallmouth fishing in the world.
  20. Nice work! Releasing a fish like that is icing on the cake! Pure pleasure.
  21. After a two year distraction, I am back. Being a smallmouth junkie I was reflag ate dinner to fishing the incredible waters of Northern Michigan one week a year and a few trips to Stockton a year.

You see I had foolishly sold my jet Jon a couple of years back when I bought my house on St.Clair  lake. At the time I could not store both my Bass boat and my Jon boat so I decided the Jon had to go. Bad move.

But things change. I now had a boat lift for my bass boat and now I have a spot in the carport for a river boat. Needless to say I will be hitting the Mec on a regular basis in pursuit of my beloved quarry.

The first trip will be this weekend and I am beyond stoked.

  22. I thought I would also post photos of a few of my Meramec river friends I hope to get reacquainted with.
  23. Guys two years ago I bought a house on St. Clair lake and like most lake lots It was small. My problem was I had a no room for my two boats so I sold my river boat......and I have regretted it ever since. Recently I bought a 1448 G3 Jon boat from my son in law. It was just a plain Jon so I needed to modify it to suit my needs. I bought an old 25 Merc jet and a bunch of aluminum angle. I riveted the frame work together and decked it with plywood. Saturday I will wire up the trolling motor and install my batteries and hit the river early Sunday morning.
  24. Nice fish Hog! Keep the pics coming dude!
