  1. Fished cedar ridge to turkey creek mouth today. No ice. Caught 8 crappie on bottom with their bellies in the mud in 25 fow. Then wind showed up and sent us packing.
  2. Thanks cap'n dan. Miss the old zebco's.
  3. I mean pass up the lakemaster. Went with lm
  4. ranger and AA, please share with us one of your favorite spots to target if you don't mind sharing spots. Please be specific....a dock, brush pile, or something of that nature. I need some new spots to hit this weekend. Thanks.
  5. Terrova 24v 80lb and hbird 998. Love em both. Had 997 and same troller on last boat. Bought new ones for my new used boat. Thanks for all the feedback. After going to bass pro and comparing side to side went with lake master. I feel the navioncs is a "cleaner" map with more marked lake features like creek channels but just couldn't get past the depth highlight feature and lake level offset to pass up the navionics. That and it was $25 cheeper.
  6. Capndan, I agree completely. Wish there was a way to only share info with others who also share info like dd did with this post. That's great to share and share in return. My problem is the 15 guys who show up at your spot and contribute nothing in return. Then they look at you like "hey, you're in my spot". I was privy to that crappie bite in cape fair this winter. Early on it was good, but once word got out, crappie were few n far between. I would guess maybe of the 100 boats out there, 4 shared info on OA, 4 were just out for fun, and 92 were out there because they heard about the bite. Of course I have no data to prove that, just my .o2. I, like you, stopped sharing much because a bunch of other people would show up who shared no new Intel with me. I'm a "show me" man. You show me some fish, I'll show you some fish.
  7. Dd, what wa water temp? Thanks.
  8. Thanks. I like link capability, depth highlight feature, and lake level adjustment feature of lakemaster. I am am curious about labelings like underwater road beds, sunken structures and such I have heard might be better on navi. Keep the feedback coming all. Thanks.
  9. Bought hbird 998. Need map chip. Debating between lakemaster and navionics. Any insights to each for our area lakes would be great. I fish table rock, taneycomo and stockton mostly. Thanks Also interested in a used one if someone has one.
  10. Yes, I would love to hear too. Heard areas of the lake froze solid this am.
  11. How do the ramps work with weather like this? Would think trailer runoff would freeze and make it impossible for next guy to pull boat out????
  12. Thanks DD. I am in a strong debate between the two. Like the depth highlight feature of lakmaster but seems navioncs a little more "updatable" and in depth. Both probably adequate. Had a 997 on my old boat....,,hard to go without one once you've had one! Was hoping to find one at a discount
  13. Bought new bird 998 and need a map chip. Looking for newer version chips Chris
  14. One word.......Pressure. In the big picture there's not much water between piney and point 15 with a lot of anglers. Crappie are hit and miss and move place to place much like deer with hunting pressure. There are crappie there and have caught my fair share of limits and had an equal fair share of skunks. All the basic crappie tactics apply, brush, standing timber, docks, structure, bluffs, etc. It's just a matter of moving around until you find some and hunt places no one else hunts which is tough in such small water. It can be great and it can be horrible. It's just finding the fish; pressure from other anglers makes that tough. When 4 other boats hit the same brush pile before you on that same day, catching anything can be tough. My advice, keep doing completely different things in completely different spots until you get on em. Don't do the exact same thing day after day and expect different results. Good luck.
  15. Caught a 9.5 lb largemouth last year. That and a 15" crappie. Those are my personal records out of stockton.
  16. Thanks. Went today. Caught 5, one of which was a 20" brown. Used small cranks. Trolled up stream between cooper and fall creek. I see people troll upstream and down stream. Do you find one way works better than the other? Don't try down by the landing after water running.....too much moss. Need to get cooper up to not get all covered in moss. Thanks again.
  17. Has anyone trolled crankbaits for trout with success? Any advice on areas, cranks, and experience appreciated.
  18. Merry Christmas everyone. I think there is a biological reason for the length limit. Pomme and lake ozark have a 9 in limit because there are so many crappie, numbers need to be controlled to prevent growth stunting and other overpopulation concerns. This is just a stab but I think length limits are set to prevent over population concerns. In richer more fertile waters up north like Iowa i believe there is no length or number limits for the same reason. This is what I have been told over the years. Again, merry christmas.
  19. Sorry, which hole is rebar? The one across from the ramp? Thanks
  20. Amazing help. Thank you Phil!!
  21. Thank you Phil and others. I appreciate the help. I will call before going.....2 units. If 2 or 3 units are lookout and rebar navigable to the average guy? Thanks again everyone.
  22. I've studied the maps on this site. Helpful. Thanks. We typically fish up to fall creek in my 18ft fish/ski. Please advise how to "run" up to the dam, or at least further than fall creek safely. How many units should be running? What features should I be looking for? Thanks for your advice to our safety.
  23. I am trying to learn how to find schools of winter shad.....and the crappie. Can anyone help with advice on how to find these baitfish? Am I looking for channel swings, bluffs, etc? Are there any good places to start looking? I have basic electronics that should work. Next question is once you find them can you mark them with a buoy? How far will they move over the course of an hour? Thanks. Looking forward to learning winter tactics.
  24. On this wonderful topic, does anyone have the same experience I do............... High pressure - hunting is good low pressure - fishing is good That seems to be my general rule of thumb
  25. What depth were you targeting?
