  1. Unless you have some official type correspondence (not word of mouth), I'd push the issue and see if anybody actually says something at the lake. It's my understanding that if it's not signed off (no trespassing) and it's an open to the public place, you'd need to be notified and given a chance to leave before you could be arrested. . . Of course, if it really were me, the first thing I'd do is go get some real legal advice and take it from there.
  2. I'm the same way. . .
  3. Let's just hope all those 18" fish are getting to see another day. Honestly, I haven't seen an 18" smallie yet this summer. I haven't been skunked since last year though.. I almost always pick up a 16" fish per trip nowadays, plus a lot of shorter fish.
  4. In Missouri, you need to make sure it passes all inspection requirements (lights, etc..) and go to any authorized motor vehicle inspection place and they'll inspect it for you and give you a little inspection receipt (just like with your car). You go down to the DMV, fill out a request for title, pay your money and they'll give you plates and a decal with a "vin" on it. The title will come in the mail later.
  5. Well, I haven't been down under that particular bridge since they built a new bridge. . . there is still an access on the roubidoux side that you can drive down underneath the bridge, but I think they closed the access on the other side. I'm not sure about that though.
  6. You will be dragging the riffles. If you're good with that, there are some floatable sections. Also, at schlicht, the river is pretty well covered in vegetation, but that's only because the spring is pumping out water nearby and the channel is a little deeper at the ramp. Go downstream and it clears up quickly.
  7. Are those the hooks that come on em? (in the second pic)
  8. Slow down, pull out your shakey heads and carolina rigs/drop shots and try to find the fish pulling off the points a little bit. I'm usually looking for deeper structure on my ff on the big lakes and tryin' to throw a worm in front of em. If that don't work, I usually head to the house...
  9. I'll make a couple calls. Can't hurt to ask.
  10. I think maybe he was banned from that subforum? That's the only thing that makes sense, as they don't actually know who you are. Or, seeing as he mentioned previously working for a security service that patrolled the lakes, I suppose it's possible that someone who still works there knows who he is... Seems odd.
  11. You think I should? I assumed that they were just clearing off their land and got it stuck. Is there a violation in there somewhere? (I'm not super informed on wildlife code).
  12. Fished a bit at my local haunt tonight. Guess what? Water is lower! Didn't seem to bother the fish none, but I'm draggin' more and more everytime I go out. Anyway, I pull up to my put in spot and somebody has put a 3ft plastic santa claus in the river and filled it with rocks so it'll stand upright. . . call me a grouch, but I yanked it out... Fishing was good, they seemed to really like my little green trick worm on a shakey head, and caught a good one on a 4" senko wacky rigged. Caught a number of fish in less than a foot of water on a bitsy tube as well. Seemed like the bigger fish were hangin' back in the deeper water behind structure in current and the smaller fish were in current eating crawdads. Also, a large tree branch broke free and crashed into the river about 50 ft from my boat. I've never seen one collapse like that, but it sure did make a sound. Good thing I wasn't underneath it. Lastly, some guys were using a bobcat to clear a sandbar of trees and stuff while I was there, and before I left, they managed to almost drive it into the river and get it quite stuck. So, the fishing was pretty decent, but the entertainment was excellent.
  13. Thought I'd grab a quick trip in the evening and hit a stretch of the BP I haven't fished... so I put in at east gate access near FLW... Well, first of all, this is a really sketchy access point for something that is so close to a military base.. it's way back in the woods, trashed.. I drove up and there was an old jeep sitting there with nobody in it. Few minutes later a guy gets dropped off by some gal, and he's looking pretty agitated. I waved howdy, but I couldn't really understand what he said back. He started the jeep and just stood there watching me unload the kayak. Anyway, I pulled back out and kinda pretended to be messing with my poles until he finally left. I got the impression he was waiting for me to leave. Anyway, the fishing wasn't good. I tons of still water, zero bites in the likely spots, and I only was able to pick up a few small fish downstream near the riffles. Almost felt like there weren't any good fish hanging around.. Probably just me though. Anyway, avoid East Gate Access if possible, it strikes me as a good place to get robbed or buy some meth, if that's your thing.
  14. I was fishing a local hole, and a young guy (foreign exchange student, country withheld) sat there and fished for several hours with a crankbait hanging under a bobber. I tried to go strike up a friendly conversation, but he didn't speak enough english to let him know without making him feel like an idiot. I just told him good luck and continued on. . .
  15. This is the kind of stuff that I love to hear and research, thanks for posting!
  16. Well guys, I drove up to Gasconade today to get a look at this thing. Pretty cool! First off, the bridge is new and heavily used. I probably caught 6 or 7 trains in the two hours I was there. I took this video so you can get a better look!
  17. I think most of us work pretty hard to find our spots, and because of the nature of the internet, it's good policy to keep stuff under wraps and be vague. That being said, I'd be happy to take you fishing with me if you wanna kayak fish!
  18. Pam Anderson or the rod?
  19. Long story short, a steam boat discovered 45ft under a corn field next to the Missouri River, sunk in 1856.
  20. http://glswrk-auction.com/102.htm Possibly the steamboat Arabia?
  21. About all I remember about capacitors from engineering school is that they can kill you easily, and it don't matter how long the power's been out. So I called a guy I trust and he had it swapped in 10 minutes.
  22. Capacitor was bad, 90 dollars and 10 minutes later, we're blowing cold air.
  23. I'd probably give it a shot without the little one followin me around, but I know just enough about electricity to kill myself as is.
  24. Whew.. you ain't kidddin... it's 90 degrees inside right now. Can't wait for dark!
  25. Also, if you want to see where this thing is located... it's 200 ft upstream from the railroad bridge in Gasconade Missouri. A friend of mine, a railroad junkie extraordinaire had this comment " The square part is the firebox and the rounded part is the boiler. The opening in the end is where they would have loaded the wood or coal for the fire. The left side of it in the picture would have been the bottom of the locomotive. The frame and wheels are apparently gone now, probably swept down the river somewhere. At least that's how it looks to me."
