Exactly I believe and understanding of the graph and how to use it and what to look for is the most important thing to look for. A lake master chip for Stockton also helps a bunch you can look at your sonar with the chip in and pick spots to try without even being on the water.
When I clean the walleye I just take the side off the fish like your going to filet it except instead of take the filet off the skin I leave it on. The wife smokes it for 2 hrs at around 225 to 250. Salt, pepper, paprika and garlic. She loves it I am not much of a fish water.
Wifey and I got out for about 4 hours starting at about 9:30 this morn. We ended up with 10 keepers and 7 shorts. Bottom bouncing in 14 to 20ft of water. Kept one for the smoker.
I exclusively walleye fish for the last 6 years and this has been my second best year. Especially on keepers. The year be for last was my best and this year my keeper to short ratio has been my best by far. We very seldom keep more than a couple let alone a limit. I would say we have kept less that 20 to 25 keepers for the year.
Took a little looking caught a couple walleye everywhere we stopped. But found a good school about 45 min before we had to leave. Ended with 13 keepers and 9 shorts. 18Ft was best. But caught from 15 to 21 ft. Bb and crawler harnesses. Only kept one for the wife all the rest were released.
Wife and I had 3 keeper walleye and 9 shorts. 20ft of water points and flats. Bottom bouncing. fished about 4 hours. I guess the cold front and north wind had them shut off a little bit.
These flats r south of mutton creek. The flats Gary is talking about r North of mutton creek.. There r several flatsthoughout the lake. There r some further south than the ones Mikeak is talking about also. And don't forget about the back of coves a lot of them r mud bottom and walleye will be there this time of year. I like to jig and crawler fish the same conservation brush piles that the crappie fishermen fish just hit the edges of them.
I am finding structure with fish on it by watching my fish finder. Then dropping a jig a crawler down to them and vertically fishing. Drop to the bottom and lift about 3 inches and hold still.
Fished today by myself for about 5 hrs Had 12 keepers and 21 shorts. Caught the first 6 fish jig and crawler fishing then switched to bottom bouncer and spinner harnesses in 16 to 20 ft deep. Gold and green where the colors today. Biggest fish 19 inches. He was part of a double the other was 16 12 inches. Together with what the wife and I caught yesterday. Had 21 keepers and 28 shorts. Only kept one fish all they others r still there. Spent the first part of yesterday fishing flats. Without much success. Then hit points in the lower end of the lake and that was much more productive.

These r what I use. But any 1/4 Jig will work just thread a night crawler on the hook and leave about an in hanging off. Drop to the bottom and lift about 3 inches and hold it still. A walleye will grab the jig and mouth it. Resist the urge to set the hook until you feel your rod start to load up then set it. 16 to 20 ft of water. On points or flats if you can find brush at this depth that is the ticket.
Wife and I took a quick trip down today had 9 keepers and 7 short walleye. A lot of boat traffic and blue gill to contend with. half bottom bouncing and half jig and crawler.
Well I do about all of that at certain times. Whenever I catch one I put a way point on my fish finder. And after a while you start to see a pattern develop. Or like the other day I was bottom bouncing caught a couple in the same spot. There was some structure there and could she fish on the sonar so I started jig and crawler fishing it and caught 8 in about a 45 min.
I hook the jig thru the head of the crawler straight thru then stretch him out and where the stinger hook meets his body hook him straight thru there and punch the crawler off behind the hook. I vertically jig. Straight to the bottom. Lift about 3 or 4 inches and hold still. When a walleye hits it they typically lightly peck it a couple times I resist the urge to set the hook. I slowly start to lift my rod if I feel the rod start to load up. Set the steel! Blue fill peck it to but much faster so u can usually tell when it's a walleye.
