Found them in long creek Sunday around the state line blowing up on shad balls. Bass fished most of the afternoon and ended up lucking into some surfacing on the way back to the ramp.
Thanks for all the replays guys. We ended up with 2 keepers for a total of 3.87 I believe. We were 4 100ths shy of big brownie with a 2.16. We had our chances. I broke of 1 keeper before dark on a 3/16th shakey head on a bluff bank and had another one come off just a few casts later. My step grandpa also lost 3 good fish. Had a blast and learned alot hope to do it again soon. Once again thank you for all your help.
What type of banks should we try to spend most of our time on? Bluff banks, chunk rock banks, gravel banks? Any thing else I should keep in mind. You guys are getting me excited and giving me a little false hope. Lol
Hey guys I have had my arm twisted into fishing a small club bass tournament this Saturday from 5pm till 1 am. We are launching out of moonshine beach and I have never been on that part of the lake. Normally when I bass fish I stick to the long creek arm since its close to home and I have a small bass tracker boat with a 50 horse that doesn't like all the boat traffic at all. mainly I fish way up the creeks to get away from everyone. Looking at this on the map i can tell this is really big water and not at all what I'm used to. Do you think you could spare a few pointers for me on what kind of tackle to try and what kind of banks to fish. I'm not one to eat bass that's what the flatheads and big bluegill are for but if you don't feel comfortable giving me pointers on the main forum private message me so that I can pick your brain. I am just in this to have a good time and I don't think fishing for 8 hours without a bite is classified as having a good time especially in this heat.
This is how I do it as well. Just pull up your rock stretch back tight and re sink your rock. Make sure your rock is under water before releasing it or it will snap and nock off some of your baits.
I fished up long creek yesterday afternoon. And found the same as you on crappie. Fished from 2-5:30 with a limit of crappie and 4 big whites. Caught all the whites up yokum. Most of my keeper crappie came from up yokum as well. You can catch short crappie any where you want right now. It is a chore though to weed through all the shorts to catch 10 inch fish or bigger i did have a 15 inch crappie yesterday. It was my new pb.
Yeah what females i have filleted look to still be a ways out from laying. Most if the fish I'm catching are males although some big ones. I had a 15 inch male on Sunday.
I don't post much on here much since I don't catch many fish but since I have caught some the last few days I thought I would report.
I put in at cricket on Thursday with a cousin at 2:00 we fished minnows under a slip bobber with the bobber stop set at 3'. We fished till almost dark and ended up with 24 keepers and that many more shorts. The fish were on any kind of wood from 10 to 30 feet of water.
Sunday I put in at cricket at 8:00 fished the same setup but the fish were on noticeably shallower structure. The deepest structure I could get bit on was about 14'. I caught fish on the banks as well. Loaded the boat at 3:00 with 12 keeps and probably caught 30 or more shorts.
I don't know the guy told me he was getting rid of it because his wife had gotten him an elite 7 hdi for Christmas. Do you guys know anything about the 4x?
I ended up buying a used lowrance elite 4x hdi today. It's never been mounted and I gave 50 dollars for it on craigslist. Anyone have any opinions on this unit.
I have been thinking of getting another graph for the front of the boat to try my hand at dropshotting. I have a hummingbird 798si at the wheel and I definitely cant afford another one of those to go on the front. I would like to stay in the 250 dollar range for a good graph for the front but I have no idea where to start. all the hummingbirds I have looked at in that price range look like junk, but some of the lowrance units look pretty good. can you guys point me in the right direction of a cheaper graph that is sensitive enough for me to try dropshotting with?
