  1. Oh yeah, it should be VERY good next week after the river comes up!
  2. Went Saturday morning with the fiance and her dad. We started off fishing below Aldrich with no luck at all so we decided to give it a shot in the river. Ended up surprisingly finding several whites. Ended the day with 37 whites on the stringer and threw back several of the tiny males. After cleaning them we had 6 or 7 females. Of course my fiance out fished us all (she actually limited out) I just needed 3 more to finish my limit. Didn't find any walleye but I did catch a 4 or 5 pound Redhorse (never caught one on rod and reel before) Went back Sunday morning but couldn't find any concentrations of fish, just one fish here and one fish there. We ended up putting 7 whites on the stringer so still not a terrible day. Lots of little males Sunday.
  3. All the fish I saw were the keeper size males already (10-12 in) didn't see any of the real small males. I don't think there is very many in the rivers yet but if the warm weather keeps rolling it shouldn't be long. I think catching that one did me more harm than good though, now I just keep thinking about taking the canoe or john boat over there and trying right below Aldrich. But as I said before I don't think the whites are there in numbers yet...
  4. Made a short trip to Taylor Sunday afternoon... saw a few whites being caught and even caught one myself. Amazing weather and it was pretty nice to catch my first river white of the year AND its only February 21st.
  5. If you make it up there let us know how you do. I usually start trying around Aldrich the 1st week of March for the whites and walleye. I work in Springfield Public Schools and our spring break starts the 5th of March this year. Hopefully lots of warm weather between now and then, can't wait to get after them!
  6. Thanks bs. We were fishing WAY upstream from the lake so I was pretty shocked when I hooked the first one. I actually hooked the big one last so when I hooked him I knew that it was a possibility he was a really good walleye because they all felt the exact same way when they bit. I knew it was a really heavy fish, I was just hoping it wasn't a catfish. I went back Saturday afternoon and caught 2 more keeper walleye and a short out of the same hole. This is just crazy for me because the only walleye I catch are accidental ones during the spring white bass run.
  7. Unfortunately panfisher, I am eating the big one and the eaters for lunch currently, along with a couple of others that I caught when I went back to the river Saturday afternoon. Not alot better than walleye!
  8. Had a little time after work on Friday so the girlfriend and I decided to head to the Little Sac for some fishing. I ended up catching 3 walleye the last 40 minutes before dark, one of those being a 26 1/2 incher that weighed 7 and a half pounds. By far the biggest walleye I have ever caught. I was pretty surprised to catch that many out of one hole this time of year. My girlfriend also caught a couple of whites and a smallmouth that was about 3 pounds and was dragging another keeper walleye onto the bank when the jig popped out of his mouth. All the fish were caught on a shad colored swimming minnow on an 1/8 ounce head. The cutting board in the picture is right at 24 inches long (just for some reference on size)
  9. The cutting board in that picture is right at 24 inches long (just to give it a little reference)

  11. I think I could catch white bass all day long every day and it would still be exciting everytime I hooked into another one. They are such a blast to catch... and they are pretty good eating too!
  12. The little sac river out of stockton lake is AMAZING for spring and fall fishing. It has a couple of accesses that allow for pretty good bank fishing. Love chasing white bass when they are spawning in the spring and it only takes like 30 minutes to get to from springfield. Just let me know if you need any specific directions or tips.
  13. I've been a couple times this week and hooked up with some whites. Took the canoe below Orleans Sunday afternoon and fished for a couple of hours, ended up with 15 whites between four of us. Watched some trollers catch fish after fish. So a buddy and I went back Wednesday night and tried some trolling for a couple of hours. Found the fish in SHALLOW water. We tried trolling with a little bit of everything roostertails, rattle-traps, and swimming minnows (shad colored). The swimming minnows seemed to be the best but that may have just been because they were the only thing we could keep off the bottom in the shallow water.
  14. Finally got a chance to go fishing gain. We put the canoe in at Orleans this morning and tried jigs and minnows, put 4 crappie and a couple of whites on the stringer before the rain ran us off of the water. Biggest crappie was almost 13 and we threw back several in the 9-10 range. Didn't catch a ton of fish but it was nice to be able to catch a few again.
  15. I'm coming down this weekend and planning on setting a couple of trotlines. I don't have a very optimistic outlook but I figured if anything can be caught it might be catfish. Thanks for any info.
  16. Heading to Mcubbins for our annual camping trip, going to set out lines and try for some cats. What's the water look like on that area of the lake? Muddy? Thanks for any info!
  17. I saw several boats fishing the weir as we were going across the dam on our way home. I've never fished that side of the dam but I've always wanted to when the whites and hybrids are running.
  18. Started fishing on the west side right up next to the fence, current was rolling pretty good. All you had to do was cast down the bank towards the flat spot and bring the bait back slowly jigging it every once in awhile and you would get hit. (I assume this would have worked down the entire bank) We were throwing swimming minnows on 1/8 ounce heads, color didn't matter, just needed that curly tail action. Two of us ended with our limit of white bass plus several more. After I got my limit I decided to try out a flicker shad and see if maybe a hybrid or two would cooperate. No luck on the hybrids but caught lots more whites. About 8 o'clock or so we decided to move to the east side and see if the crappie were biting. A ton of them being caught off the handicapped dock and from the bank right around it. Had to go through several dinks to catch a keeper but it was still a blast. We ended up with our limit of whites and 13 keeper crappie. Probably could have slowly reached our limit of crappie but my buddy had to make a meeting in Springfield by 1. Absolutely love this place when they are letting water out!
  19. Thinking about heading down Thursday morning. Anyone catching any hybrids yet? How about crappie? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  20. I was pretty shocked how long it lasted on the little sac this year. I started catching them at the beginning of March.
  21. Well after fishing the little sac last night I believe the white run is winding down. Between 2 of us we were able to boat 21 keepers but there were never more than 2 or 3 fish in one spot. I think the majority of fish have returned back to the lake.
  22. Not sure how much longer they will be around but as of Monday there was still plenty of them in the river.
  23. Thats a pretty good day on the water, lots of good eating! Were you on the Sac or the little sac? We were on the little sac yesterday evening and ended up with 2 limits of whites and 3 walleye. Just 1 of the walleye was big enough to keep though, really shocked to find the walleye still in the river. I'm wondering how much longer the whites will be in there as well.
  24. Goggle-eyes are delicious, right there with crappie in my opinion.
  25. No better times than getting out on the water with friends and family! As for swimmin minnows, when I'm fishing the little sac the purple swimmin minnow is the only bait you'll ever find on my pole.
