  1. Hey Everyone! Ive been looking for a CDC midge on the site but I cant find one... Im looking for a pattern for a tying contest. I need any kind subsurface, dry fly, I would really like an emerging midge because Ive been Facinated with those... Thanks everyone.
  2. What is a chamois leech anyone wanna show me a pic of it?
  3. Sorry Caddis I havent remembered to take my camera down there but I did catch a fish 14" long (I measured him) Nice big bow too really really fat... I was swinging wooly buggers around some tree stumps and it would pull the fish right outa there! Great time watching that thing go splat on the water then being able to see the fish make a wake and feel a big tug on the end of your line... But once I get there and my camera comes with me Ill take it with me and snap some pics.
  4. I like it but 1 question! How does it not shred? I think when a big striper or a big brown comes up and hits it the tubings gonna shred from a brown? But all around Good looking fly Dano!
  5. Thanks for all the info chub my leader is about 9' long so, shorten it to 7' maybe?
  6. The Shad that I am seeing are around the 1-3" range. The fly is around 2" and is silver with a nickel color head, it is a size 12? Or around that range. I am fishing for trout, (can someone tell me how to catch some stripers around the dam right about now? The water has been up for the last 2 weeks...) I am using a 6wt rod floating line... Well thats really all I have to say, Bill I will try and post a picture of the Kelly fly No guarantees though.
  7. Ok there has been a small shad kill here and im not really sure how to fish it.... I fished a Kelly fly and had one I went down there and saw my freind Kelly catching them on nothing other than a KELLY FLY! (Ill try and post a picture of one sometime) Anyways, this fly looks just like a shad but I cant seem to get a cast off, Any tips? Thanks guys...
  8. What I see most fly fishermen with is a cloth net I have heard that a rubber net can take the scales off of a trout. Im not positive about this but that is what ive heard. If im wrong please tell me...
  9. what is a JuJubee?
  10. My first real trip to Roaring River will be in mid March and I was wanting to know what part of the river what depth what rigs and what flies... I have been there once on a trip back from Taneycomo and caught one very nice one and was trying to convince one of the massive sculpins to bite. (they wouldnt budge.) Well I know about how deep some parts are and havent even been to other parts. My friend Kelly made me a fly and told me to use it there... I caught about a 2lb rainbow and I saw the Hatchery fish in the big pool thingy! I wish I coulda cast a big wooly bugger in there. ( I would love if someone that is very farmiliar with the area went and kinda guided me) Just without the price! Well thanks guys!
  11. Personally if you think theres a secret I think your CRAZY!!!! My best luck is in runs fishing a way oversized wooly bugger of any color with a real loooong sloooow strip...
  12. Did you put him back? Did you get a picture?
  13. Well as I said the Stripers are starting to come up the river I went to the Webbers falls lock and dam today and it was running and there were gulls EVERYWHERE! The sea gulls were eating shad on top of the water... approxamatly 3" long... But back to the lower Illinois. I heard from one of the workers at Daves bait and tackle and he said that a Jig head 1/8th size with a pearl colored shad was working great below the little bridge that goes across the river down below Gore landing I cant wait until next weekend!!! Ill be going on a trip with my buddy from OKC. Down to the mouth of the Arkansas fishing I'm thinking about taking my fly rod but not sure how to fish that down there... Any ideas and fly suggestions for down there? Thanks!
  14. AHHH!!! I see what your talking about you can find them in Wally worlds fishing dept in Branson havent found them anywhere else...
  15. Yea I can get you some pics of em... And the striper fishing is good right now is what my friend Randy says He says hes been catching 10-12 pounders on white jigs about 3" long, 14lb line. Hey butts hows about in the summer you take me striper fishing down here? I can catch them on a live trout but no real good luck with a fly rod...
  16. I agree with Okie Just move on and go to the lake and look at it or something... No sence in wasting time there... The only time ive had it productive is in the summer down at marval right off of the rocks, It puts a huge eddy in the river and also some slack water (very tricky to use a flyrod in.) Thats just my 2 Cents
  17. Welcome ZackRo! A 21" bow? Might have been one of the ones that Marval stocks 3 times a year if it had a tag on it report it to marval it may be the one that they are still looking for...(A fly rod reel combo for the tag) But the only town that the lower illinois really passes is Gore and its also only about 8 miles long... (my town is so little we only have 900 people LOL!) Also check out Daves bait and tackle in gore also check out Harps they are the only places that would have tackle here in Gore.
  18. Hrmm When I tye in the White fox hair and then angel hair and then the Gray fox hair (or whatever the stuffs is... Im not really sure if this makes much of a difference. Does it for anybody else? Oh yea and when I bought the pack it didnt have any white dubbing in it. But what it did have in it was red dubbing...
  19. I know that this is about 2 years old but at least I know where you can get some... The Woodsman In Fort Smith... I dont remember how much but yes they are some of the best flies you can make for blue gill...
  20. Jeremy these were the flies I sent you the message about... I was wondering if you could possibly tye them in a rainbow trout color that was about 6" long for me? Also some shad colors about 4" for me If you would please send me a message, And if you would please tell me some prices for these flies... I will be doing a Ton of fly fishing for striper in the summer this year and in Later years... I got into it last summer because of a Man named Kelly and He is an amazing fisherman. (fly rod only) And he tyes a baitfish pattern that is kinda like these baitfish but in kelly green Caught 1 Striper off of it then lost it... Thank you Jeremy!
  21. Umm Okie the stripers dont move up until summer...
  22. Unless we decide to make a sudden trip to Branson Ill be here... Is the Trout bum book any good?
  23. Un less you want to take a chance of breaking off flies Id use a 5lb tippet if you fish wooly buggers, Jigs, And larger streamers.... ( I dont fish under 5lb unless I have to and when I do Its either 3.4 Rio Powerflex or 4lb...) I normally Fish a Wooly Bugger, Egg flys, white jigs, and nymphs. (Pretty much no Topwater flies in my box.) I Live approxamatly 4 miles away from the river when they arent generating and its not a weekday Im there... Send me a message if your going to go on a weekend. (Cant go on a Sunday at least from 9-12 anyways.) But Ill come down at show ya how to catch them on a fly rod. What Part of the river are you planning on going to? I personally Like going to T&M and go down or the dam (T&M has some big fish if you go down river a ways.) Send me a message and Ill help you out a little bit...
