Oh forgot to add, if you get into the rock bass watch out because you will crap your pants, they are monsters compared to what you got down here.

For walleye, you want to use 8lb test and at that time leaches would be your best bet. For pike I would use 12 lb line and they love the red and white spoons. I wouldnt go after muskie because its hard to catch one on that lake. you will cast like 70 times before you get something to chase what your throwing but if you were I would try some kind of swim bate. I used to fish that lake all the time before I moved to missouri. I catch alot of big walleyes around Big Bay off the rocks with a lindy rig with leaches on it. you can troll or just drift with the current. Good Luck

Im just wondering what everybody is using these days for smalls on the river. I'm using a zoom swimmer super fluke pearl that is 4 1/2 inches then if thats not working i use gambler meano lure pearl, they are just hitting that real good. I wish I could have picks but I dropped my cam in the water.

Hey guys, This is a long shot but its worth a try. I don't have a boat, Im new to the Missouri area, straight from Minnesota. I fished in some tournaments up there as a co-angler. I wanna start to do some down here. So if anybody needs a second body let me know. I do have experience in some tourneys. Feel free to text or call me at 507-206-1658. Thanks Jake

This is a real old thread but who knows someone else might look to see whats it about. I just moved here from Minnesota and I really dont know what the deer hunting is like around here yet but Im going to do what I did up there. I've shot so many deer on public land up there and have 10 wall hangers to show for it. Well one i shot on public land, anyways. What I did, I made sure I know where I was hunting months ahead of the hunt and where u hunt its real hilly, I try to find the funnels but I also try to find the secondary trails coming for the beding area and feeding areas. It seems you have alot of white acorns down here. All my bucks I took always came from the secondary trail on edge of the hills. During gun season, Ive shot some big bucks with my bow, at that point I didnt even care of what way the wind is blowing, I get in there way before the gun hunters get into the woods because most of the time when they start moving they wont see you and they will push the deer your way or any way. Now make sure you brought out food or what ever to make you stay at the tree all day because if the deer are not moving they will some time. I always make sure Im in my stand before dark and stay in there until the end. Those hunters will still spook something up and you neve know what might come your way. I believe in finding the secondary trails, most bucks up in Minnesota travel those then any other trail.

Are There Any Public Ponds Or Small Lakes Around?
jbtiwns30 replied to jbtiwns30's topic in Other Ozark Lakes
Thanks for the info so far, I should say even though you can check that atlas out on that site and I bet anything there are more public ponds out there that are not on that atlas. I guess I just need to go drive around and explore until I find stuff. -
Hey all.... I was wondering of there are any small lakes or ponds that are for the public to fish that are not listed on the dnr website? Im from Minnesota and I would love to find something small with a good amount to fish to catch that my kids would love to go to. If there any what kind of fish are there to catch. I would love to find a good crappie place but Im not going to be picky about it. I know there are tons of public ponds where Im from that the dnr doesn't put on their site. Any ideas would be great, thanks a bunch guys!

Springfield Lake Motor Limit?
jbtiwns30 replied to Bassmaster21's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
it doesn't say your boat cant be on that lake, use a trolling motor, there are tons of people that use trolling motors on there. it is a dumb law once you think about it but the law is the law. plus there are tons of places you can fish from the shore and catch fish as well. -
thats awsome....we went all the way back to the right in a canoe when we went. we found three back water areas that alot of bass were held up in and i do have to say its a blast. only a canoe can get into those back water areas. when you first get into the back area its real shallow at first like a ft deep maybe not even but once you get into those areas its about 3 to 4 ft deep, theres alot of bait fish and its crazy seeing the bass go after then, once they see the frog all heck breaks out.

me bad i didnt mean to call bass crap fish, the way i put it down thats what it sounded like. also, about the dnr telling people to through away suckers or carp on the banks, the dnr in my old area tell people that because with the high population of bald eagles in the area they know that the bald eagles would feed on them. they normally do find them and eat them. theres a well known tourney in our area called lip masters. biggest carp or sucker wins it. guess what they do to all the carp or suckers. the dnr takes all of them and throws them all o one field and lets the bald eagles feast on them. if you hate that idea, oh well not my issue.

Springfield Lake Motor Limit?
jbtiwns30 replied to Bassmaster21's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
ya you need to call someone about that. its only a 6 horse moter or less. you can not use anything bigger or its a fine if your caught. -
thats all good, thanks for letting me know. ill have to give it a try and see what happens. i agree the rough fish are fun to catch but tne dnr up there frown on any rough fish being in the waters where i fished. i wouldnt think about throwing the fish on the banks unless i was told by the dnr. alot of our eagles that we have eat the fish that we are told to throw on the banks. i had smoked carp before it was ok but i wouldnt go smoking it myself. i know alot of people up there go after suckers and cut them into peices and throw them in their gardens. oh well, it seems that you guys have tons of great clean places to hang out by the water down here.

what would a guy catch out there? im just doing reserch in the net and came accross it.
-
has anybody heard anything about this place? some people say you can fish it but some say its closed to fishing..
-
I have not tried this but Im going to one of these days, I got a few questions for you all. I was reading on the dnr website and it said people catch walleye and sauger below that, is it true? What other fish can you catch below it? Im guessing bass and carp and other crap fish like that. Im from the north and if we catch any gar our dnr tells us to throw it on the shore and kil it, do they want you to throw them back down here, im guessing so. Also we dont have these paddle fish up there so someone fill me in on that. It seems a big deal for some people, are they good to eat or what do people do with them, just throw them back? To me its just a rough fish and us up north hate rough fish. Thanks for the info.

Springfield Lake 7-4-12
jbtiwns30 replied to Kee sims's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
ok, thanks for the info. ah, since im new and i only fished the lake part acouple of times, i dont know where the boat house is. We put in by the dock and baot ramp right by the highway 65 bridge. Is there good fishing by the old bridge? last time we went out we just took his boat up steam to explore around and we saw alot of fish chasing minnows but we couldnt tell what they were. I guess you just need to get out there to see what you can haul in and hope you catch stuff. If not, its just a big plus for being out there on some water. -
So im new to missouri and i live around the springfield area, is there any good deer hunting around or is it just a waist of time? I moved from Minnesota and I can say that I have some on the wall but now I want to put a ol missouri buck on the wall. Is there any good bucks around here and is there public hunting lands around? Any info would help, thanks.

Springfield Lake 7-4-12
jbtiwns30 replied to Kee sims's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
My brother in law and I are headed out saturday morning. He's not big on bass nor he dosn't even know how to catch bass so I got to show him how to do it. I been using plastic frogs in the early morning and at night around 730 till 8. They been hitting it pretty hard. But I do have a question for you all. I just moved to the springfield around, well ozark, I wanna catch some crappie. Is the crappie biting on this lake now and if so what are people using? Hope to have some good pics after saturday. Good luck all!!
