  1. Word is 5 to 9 here in St Louis. Nothing but sleet right now. No snow until after 10. Is it snowing there yet?
  2. AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!
  3. So how was it?
  4. You may regret that combination tomorrow.
  5. Brian I agree with Phil. The maturity part is where it's at. I take my Dalmation with me. Bailey used to chase everything that moved. As she got older, I found that a dog treat and a place for her to be was all she needed. Keep in mund I am talking about bank fishing, but there was a time that she would not stay out of the water either. Now she lays next to me. I drink and fish, she lays down and sleeps. She does get a bit excited whenever I bring in a fish. She has learned not to mess with a big channel cat, the hard way. There is nothing like fishing with your friends, especially the four legged kind.
  6. I thought all the crappie went to Florida for the winter. Nice fish. BTW, had a Tetanus shot lately????
  7. I started a blog on a site called Live Journal some time back. I was in that site for a while, and got bored with it. I find that I visit this website/forum several times a day. It is easier to be in a site where there are common interests. It also helps when everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and not attacking each other like rabid dogs. So, as part of my first entry I want to thank everyone on the site for the information and laughs that I have gotten. One of the threads I got really got my attention. It said, "looks like you have made a lot of friends in here," well it seems that way to me as well. LMW
  8. Hey Gary Chili and cornbread sounds great. I 'm still eating leftover turkey.
  9. Especially when they are around Tigers!
  10. Now just listen to yourselves. Stay at home, read, play on the internet. Grow a pair I say. Get out and be adventurous. Put it in 4 wheel drive and give it hell. You see, I have 31 restaurants that need you all on the street eating as much as you can. When sales are good I can fish. When sales are bad I have to work. With this weather, sales are way bad. The only ones making out today are the grocery stores. Gotta have milk and bread you know.
  11. Too late, already ordered oh well Thanks Dano
  12. Good Afternoon from Icy St Louis I appreciate all of the comments from everyone. From what I am reading, fly fishing and golf do have a lot in common. Seems they are both things that are enjoyed when other people are involved. I got better at playing golf by shooting rounds with guys that were better than me. Now I am an 8 handicap, where I was a 24. Seems that may apply here as well. So, Rob and I are planning another trip to Taney the end of December. We are driving in on Thursday December 28 and plan to fish Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, driving home Monday afternoon. I realize this is a holiday, so if anyone is going to be down during that time and does not mind having me hanging around, let me know. LMW
  13. Hey Guys Thanks for the information. I would bet that practice is the best thing at this point, but a few questions and comments have come to mind. I understand mending the line. I thought a #10 was the smallest split shot, or at least the smallest I have. We cast at a 45 degree angle upstream. I do not tie my own flys so I do buy them when I get to town. So I ned to ask for weighted flies. My indicator was way too big and too far from the fly I need to learn presentation on each fly that we use There was very little current, a hig clear sky and warm temps all weekend. The river seemed to be very low, but my experience is limited We need to practice to get more distance Should we use a weight forward line? We need to get out a lot more than we have We need to learn how to read the water, which means we need someone to show us how to do this. All this comes down to practice, which is fine, because fishng beats work anytime. Thanks guys
  14. I fully realize that this is not up to the standards that my previous trips have set, but this was my only catch at Taney last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As stated in my previous posts, I do have large hands.
  15. Let's see, infinity The word infinity comes from the Latin infinitas or "unboundedness." It refers to several distinct concepts which arise in philosophy, mathematics, theology and everyday life. Popular or colloquial usage of the term often does not accord with its more technical meanings. In Greek philosophy, for example in Anaximander, 'the Boundless' is the origin of all that is. He took the beginning or first principle to be an endless, unlimited primordial mass (apeiron) In Judeo-Christian theology, for example in the work of theologians such as Duns Scotus, the infinite nature of God invokes a sense of being without constraint, rather than a sense of being unlimited in quantity. In philosophy, infinity can be attributed to space and time, as for instance in Kant's first antinomy. In both theology and philosophy, infinity is explored in articles such as the Ultimate, the Absolute, God, and Zeno's paradoxes. In mathematics, infinity is relevant to, or the subject matter of, limits, aleph numbers, classes in set theory, Dedekind-infinite sets, large cardinals, Russell's paradox, hyperreal numbers, projective geometry, extended real numbers and the absolute Infinite. In popular culture, we have Buzz Lightyear's rallying cry, "To infinity — and beyond!", which may also be viewed as the rallying cry of set theorists considering large cardinals.1 And the hall of fame to boot. Now if I could jest catch me a few fish
  16. Ok, I live on a lake. We have about 300 pontoons registered. Theyvary in size from 18 to 28 feet. So when I saw pontoon boat, I'm thinking, well, you know what I'm thinking.
  17. Thanks guys. I will check it out. We were using larger indicators this trip. I don't know what a GINK is, but I know how to find out. Jim HMMMMM, this is what I found. ®Gink is a light paste that turns to a liquid at skin temperature. Upon coming in contact with cold water it returns to a clear, unseen, invisible gel that keeps water from making your dry flies or streaking streamers, wet. Flies stay dry for the normal useful life of any and all dry flies astream. Not sure how this can replace a split shot to weight the line.
  18. Well guys, I am looking for some encouragement and pointers. Rob and I spent last weekend at Taney. We fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. Between us we caught one rainbow and a tiny creek chub. Here is what we did. Tell me what we are doing wrong. We fished the area from The Stretch to just below the MDC Boat ramp. We were using 9 foot 5x tapered leaders with 7x tippets. We drifted scuds with a #10 split shot under an indicator, in depths that varied from 18 inches to 3 feet. We tried gray, beige, and olive scuds, in sizes from #16 to #20. We also tried a primrose and copper dun midge under an indicator. Now, dumb luck should allow us to caught a couple of fish. Still being rookies, I understand the learning curve. I know about paying your dues because I also play golf. Seems that fly fishing is a lot more humbling than golf, but I have been golfing for a lot longer period of time. I have read about using multiply flies, but as yet have not found any diagrams that show me how to tie them. I know they exist, and Phil will probably shoot me a link right away, but as of now I am in the dark. Any words of wisdom? We have decided to do a little practicing with poppers on our lake at home for bluegill or bass.
  19. I wish I could catch some fish, but, until then, I can enjoy the view.
  20. Nice fish, but how did you get a pontoon boat all the up to the cable? Howsmall is that thing?
  21. Thank You, Thank You My wife and I would like to accept this award and thank all of the people, (many of you know who you are),for making it happen, and allowing it to live so longgggggg in cyber space.
  22. Well, from what I have read on this forum, do to my shuffling, fish are attracted to my feet. I fished for three days with HUGE fish around my feet. Most of these were rainbows. They were big enough for me to know. On saturday I saw the biggest brown, yes it was a brown, I had ever seen Eventually I will get this figured out and I too will catch fish. Ubtil then I will enjoy the scenery and the company and the peace and quiet of the river. It's fishing man, it's not work. And there's no such thing as a bad day of fishing.
  23. Creek chubs, brown trout, rainbow trout They are all fish.
  24. Thus, the I think it's a brown, comment But still priceless
