  1. Done Looking forward to seeing it.
  2. Robbie is the rookie, LeAnn is a little more seasoned as foar as fly fishing is concerned. With the river running as full as it was they decided it was not really safe for them to go down and try and fish. They had one fisherman that was fishing from the bank lost last week. The water had undermined the area he was standing on. He did not realize this until he was in the water. So they decided not to take any risks. She was not real happy. She was looking forward to the trip. They did the sightseeing thing instead. JIm The post does look alittle harsh with that face. Didn't notice that until now
  3. Davy Just hit the link on your knot. Easy to learn. Why would anyone use a clinch knot when this is so easy to tie? Great knot. I have read conflicting articles on what to use to lubricate a knot. Orvis says to use saliva, and the Little Red Knot book says that the digestive enyzmes in the saliva weaken the knot. What's the story guys? I been spittin on knots for years to fish for catfish, bass and carp. Are trout to sophisticated for a little spit?
  4. Dave You DVD was recommended to me by a couple of guys here. They say I can get it around Branson. Can you tell me where?
  5. No fishing for Rob in Seattle. All the rain flooded the river.
  6. One more time Photobucket worked great Thanks
  7. Thanks Dano

  9. We already have lodging in Branson. How far is Roaring River?
  10. Late or notI get it. Thanks I hope ou guys all swear by that no dumb questions thing BTW I have read about 8 of the articles you posted on the front. They have helped a lot. Have you published anything other than what is on the site?
  11. Thanks I will give it a try
  12. I can't tie, but I would be happy to make a donation to the cause for supplies. I relize that this is a far cry from what you guys are doing, but we do what we can. Let me know.
  13. I have spent the past week printing and reading as many articles on this site as I can. What I am finding is that I still have more questions than answers. My wife and I are coming back to Taney for Thanksgiving. It is our desire to catch fish. In order to do that I need to get educated. I am looking for suggestions on some instructional DVD's that will teach me some the basics so that I can ask intelligent questions and understand what the answers are. We plan on hiring a guide next time out. My wife feels very comfortable, (something very important to her), with Carolyn at River Run, but I am not sure if she is availale. Anyway, our goal in doing this is not just to catch fish, but learn why we are catching them. I hope a few DVD's will help. Any suggestions?
  14. My wife has fallen in love with fly fishing. Our first 4 times out she rented waders and boots. I almost lost her. We went to River Run and worked with Carolyn for a couple f hours trying on waders and boots. Our first trip out she was amazed at what a difference dry warm feet and waders and boots that fit made. She bought a pair of Simms waders and orvis boots. Not sure of the brand. My suggestion is that you find a good fly shop and don't leave until she is comfortable. If all else fails, get her fitted and have a custom set made for her. Taht is what I ad to do. It is a little more expensive, but it is worth the extra dollars. I too am lucky enough to have a live in fishing buddy. I wish you the best.
  15. Phil You wrote, He let the line swing downstream, not stripping at all- they would hit it on the swing. What does "hit it on the swing" mean?
  16. Are you that good or is there a search engine that I missed. I really did do a search and came up empty. Thanks
  17. I searched the site and the web and was not able to find out what a "#18 white soft hackle" is. The #18 I get, the rest I could use some help with. a picture? a link? Thanks, Jim
  18. This is a heavy topic. Comic relief may be what this thread needs. But that’s not my purpose. I am one of the newest members of the site. I came here by accident looking for ways not to get skunked the next time I go to Taney. BTW, I too visit other forums on a lot of subjects, and they all are “all over the place.” That’s why they are called forums. What I found on this site did start with comic relief. Dah. I think I generated quite a bit. I got to have fun and laugh about what was the worst 3 hours of my life. And a lot of the guys on this site and in the fly shops helped me do just that. But what I got back was huge. I was looking for the most basic information a newbie could seek. I was looking for maps, for help with flies and knots. I needed to know the names of all of the various spots on the river. I had so little information that I did not know the questions to ask. So I searched this site. I printed a couple hundred pages of information to read. I am not ready for fishing reports. I needed to know what a “scud” was. I needed to know what presentation to use with a fly that I could not recognize because the guide I hired always did that for me. I needed to get past having someone do and get someone to teach. This is that “teach a man to fish” site that I was looking for. This is where I can go and read what I need to learn, and then go and get a little entertainment to boot. So, I love this site. It was one of 33 that I searched thru to find what I was looking for on Sunday night. I stumbled into the forum by accident, lucky me, and found a wealth of knowledge and people that did not mind sharing or ribbing or torturing. It is usually hard for a newbie to get involved in a site like this. Most of the posts I have read up to now would lead me to think that that is not the case here. So, Thanks Phil and everyone ese that posts here
  19. Well gentlemen. Rob joined the site yesterday. I put her on a plane to Seattle Washington tonight to go fly fishing on the Yakima River with one of her newfound girlfriends. She joined so that they could login tomorrow and read all of the posts. She is having a great time with all this. Nope, not me.....
  20. Robs Fish, second try. If they are not compressed right let me know. That semed to work
  21. done Will try to downsize them first
  22. All of the spools I have, have an elastic wrap to hold the line on the spool. So far no ends. Looks like razor blade time. Not for me, for the spools
  23. Boy do I feel, well, I just found this article. Stream Etiquette This a last minute entry. A fishing buddy sent me an email this morning about a trophy he caught and released over the weekend. In the note, he mentioned the lack of stream etiquette below the dam during his trip. I was up at the dam Friday morning taking pics and did see a lot of people fishing all through the wadable area. I, myself, hate to fishing in crowds and refuse to fish over weekends for that reason. For the other 90% of the workforce who have no choice when they get to fish, it is a issue. Good article, thanks Phil Live and learn
  24. Boy you guys are tuff. I fished for 4 days, never lifted a foot to move, still fell three times, had fish feeding on my boots till I wanted to net them and run. Of course I didn't, but I never caught a fish either. If "shuffling" is such a sure thing I must be really bad at this fly fishin thing. Any books out there on Fly Fishin Etiquette?
  25. Ok First question that seems to obvious. I was teaching Rob, (my lost wife), how to tie flys on her tippet. In order to do it right I took pulled some line off a tippet spool. I think I pulled from the wrong end, because it was very hard to get off the spool. I looked for another loose end with a magnifying glass and could not find one. So, my question; Is there an easy way to find the start of the tippet on a new spool? Should the line feed off freely, or do you pull from the botom so that the entire spool does not unravel. These and other questions will be coming your way as we spend more time on Taneycomo.
