  1. Hello OA Robbie and I are finally gettin to come back to do some fishing! We will be down the last week in August for 5 days. It has been a rather interesting year for us. Especially the past 4 months. Seems I have been sick for a while and didn't realize how bad it was. In April, after 8 months of trying to figure outwhat was wrong, my doctor ordered the right test, after about 10 that were the wrong test, and I ended up at St John's Mercy at the heart hospital getting a surpise triple bypass. To make a very long story short, I am doing great, have lost almost 60 pounds, been exercising almost everyday to get my strength back and am sooo looking forward to getting butt deep in cold water to fish! I plan on getting caught back up in here and being ready to fish when we get to Taney. I can't believe the difference in the website. I also saw the "Best of Taney" forum. Now, with hundreds of replies in the thread, according to the new site, how is it that "I lost my wife!" did not make the cut? Jeez Phil, what does it take? Be posting again real soon, LMW
  2. Happy Tahnksgiving all Go TIGERS..............................GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  3. Wait Here's another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. GF I happen to have the same picture with a different face on it!
  5. Try using a slip bobber rig and minnows.

    Crappie Line

I like 4 pound silver thread.

    Crappie

I use 4 pound silver thread. I too tried the vanish and cajun red. Both tangled so bad that they were almost uncastable. I also have a rod setup with 6 pound silver thread. I catch a lot of bass on it, but not many crappie. I never thought that the extra line weight may be the issue. I always fish with a slip bobber and minnows, so the bait is not at issue. If the line is the issue, why does Wallie "Mr Crappie" Marshal say to use hi vis line??????
  8. I use an open face ultra light reel on a medium lite 6'6" rod. I do the slip bobber and live minnow routine. It works well for me on the lakes we fish. I have never tried to long rods. I can't get into jigging.
  9. I have been working, really too much. Rob and I were at Taney on New years Day and have had 2 days off since then. It sounds insane, and it is. But our company did not go under, and we are just about to get to a point were we can both be gone for more thn 24 hours. New Years day being on a Tuesday may just allow us to get there this year. Monday's are still out of the question, but not tuesday.
  10. Trout God I do it because I enjoy standing butt deep in icy water. Plus, I did not have to go out and spend 30K for a bass boat!!!!!!!!!! OK, Just kidding. I too have fished since I was 5, now 51. During that time I have fished for just about everything that can be caught in fresh water in the midwest. I have used lures, flies, live bait, a bow, a gig, a snag hook and traps. I have not tried dynamite, but there were times on Taney I considered it. I enjoy fishing. I enjoy learning new ways to fish. Fly fishing, (and a certain incident on her birthday about a year ago), got my wife into fishing. Now we fish 2 to 3 times a week. Bottom line, I love it, I miss not being able to do it and I can't wait to get back in Taneys icy water. LMW
  11. It reminds me of the foreign lottery scam with a twist. Once you have charged their card, and paid for the travel, can they challenge the extra $8K and stick you with the bill. Seems easier to find a better travel agent.
  12. Yo Ducky Unless you have a different kinda calendar, New Years Day is a Tuesday.
  13. Robbie and I are going to do whatever we can to be there as well. We may have to quit, but enough is enough.......... LMW
  14. Some of Robbie's pics
  15. Hi Guys Been a while. I just wanted to drop everyone a line. First, thanks to Mr Beeson for his advice on a jon boat. I got my Grizzly in August. It has been out to good use. Seems Robbie has gotten the fishing bug. Here is her first crappie, yes her first. It measured 16.5 inches. Note the HAT Then she started on bass. Here is her biggest. She laned this 4 pounder on ultr light with 4 lb test line. We hope to get back to Tanney soon. LMW

    Crappie

ROb and I are looking for a small lake to fish for crappie. Our lake is very slow right now. I have a 1548 Grizzly tracker with a 55 pound thrust trolling motor as the only motor. (needs a ramp to launch) Any ideas for Fall Crappie within a quick drive from St Louis?
  17. Good Evening OA This weekend marked one year since Rob and I gaied notority in Branson. Since them we have added a huge number of people to our list of friends. I took the advice of Terry and bought an all welded john from Tracker boats to fish on the sall lakes in our area. This year on Rob's birthday, instead of getting lost, she caught several nice bass, ( one 4 pounder) on ultrlight tackle, (4 lb test line). We have been working 7 days a week since we returned from Branson on January 2, 2007. But we have been fishing for crappie, bass abdblugill from on our small fishing lake. She caught the bug, so we have been on the water 3 days a week since July 4. WE are looking forward to getting back to Branson by New Years at the latest. We hope to see everyone around Thanksgiving. Not dead, just dead tired LMW and WBF
  18. Hey Guys My bass boat broke down for the 4th time in 5 outs. I spun the prop last time out. I am still looking for that little jon boat for the crappie lake. The new Lunds are too heavy if I get the ones with pedestal seats. The 2007 TRACKER GRIZZLY® 1654 L All-Welded Jon It has the mounts for the pedestal seats. It weighs in at 380 pounds. Not sure if I can get a tilt trailer to launch it. What do you all think? I may go with the 14 or the 15 to lose a little weight.
  19. Hey Terry Told Dano I was in prison. Close, but not quite. My boss decided that I didn't need anymore days off after I got back from Tanney last time. Yep, on January 2, 2007. So I been working. I can't use the line about "Lincoln freeing the slaves" cause he does pay me well, but I have to tell ya that both me and Robbie are getting tired. BTW, she 's been working 7 days a week with me. I hope to get back down. In the meantime I will try and keep up a little better. I read a thread that Bill started about "crawlers." Is that the bass fishing version of "shuffling?" Sure looked like it.
  20. Alive yes, kickin, don't know. I been in my work prison since January 2, 2007. That was my last day off. Seems I got a long sentence for taking that 4 day weekend over New Years. I hope to get back down before Labor day. In the meantime, I'll keep up a bit here. It is nice to be missed.....lol
  21. Is that French for small...........ooops, PG-13
  22. Dano That is a male Mayfly. It is from the species Johnth Holmesth, and is very popular with the ladies.
  23. Thanks gentlemen The lake I am taking about is a very small lake, almost a pond. The 55lb thrust Minn Kota I picked up moved the borrowed boat around with no problem, but there were stability issues. It was a flat bottom low sided boat. It got interesting a couple of times. Also, this is a lake that is somewhat unprotected. It is surrounded by homes not trees. Saturday, a moderate wind made life a bit on the trying side, but it was my first time out in this boat, and Rob had never been in a jon boat in her lfe, thus the trying part. I really like the Lund. Pricey yes, but it seems like a one time purchase. I am going to hit a few dealers and look at the Lowes, Lunds and a few more. I am in no hurry. Again, Thanks for the input. LMW
  24. Finally Got the pics to load. This boat would have been as near perfect as it gets, but I can't find any others like it anywhere. I did see a Lund Rebel Tiller with teh flat bottom and three seats. Better. So, should I consider alumacraft and polar kraft? Any others? Are there trailers out there that allow me to launch and load without a ramp? Thanks LMW
