  1. Ok, I do have one more story. When Robbie and I first got together, our first major purchase was a ski boat. We went to TRL for our honeymoon. But that is not the story. We were skiing at Gillispie Lake in central IL. I had Robbie back the trailer in when we took the boat out. She is actually pretty good at it most of the time. For some reason she backed the trailer in way too deep and it fell off the end of the ramp in the lake. At the time we had a Chevy Blazer. She dropped that sucker into "Granny Low" and pulled the trailer right back out. Unfortubately, one of the wheels decided to stay in the lake a little longer than the other. She bent the axle so bad we could not get the boat out or the trailer home. That was the first time I removed an axle from a trailer. We had to leave the trailer body and the boat at the lake until we could get the axle "trued up". BTW, there is no such thing as a straightened axle. It was never the same again. I guess I strayed off topic a bit, sorry. LMW
  2. When we got our outfits, we had no idea what to buy. We went to a pro and did fairly well. But now I have some questions. First, i got Davy Wotton's DVD, Wet Fly Ways. He talks about using an 11.5 to 12 foot rod. Most I see or hear about at Taney are 9 foot rods. What's the difference. Next, is there a way for me to tell what kind of line I have. Again, the fly shop suggested, I said ok, they loaded it. That was 3 years ago. Now i am curious. It probably does not matter at this point, but reading about all of the different outfits that everyone has, has got me wondering why.
  3. Where were you when I sunk my bass boat and had to get it out of the water, full of water. Yep, I left out the plug. Got on the lake, filled with water, killed my elctrical system, (no pumps), and of course I had no hand pumps. By the time I got the plug in I was totally screwed. This was my second time out and my first with my wife in the boat. I get the plug in, bail with a zip lock bag until I was high enough in the water to move it with the trolling motor. I am sure you are asking what this has to do with a boat ramp? Well, our ramp is also right next to the Marina Bar. It happened to be filled with people I knew, (you see I did not say friends of mine) . They all had a great laugh at my expense, but no one offered to help. My boat was still full of water when I got it to the ramp. It took me forever to get that overweight boat onto the trailer and haul it out of the water. The probem was that I could not stay with the boat and move he trailer. What a nightmare. It drained for hours. It is funney now, but that day the humor escaped me. Every boater I know said that they had left out the plug at least once. It seems to be a right of passage for boaters. Since then my son and I have practiced getting the boat in and out of the water a lot. LMW
  4. Is the lodge or the cabins open at Montauk during C&R
  5. According to the website they are closed for the season
  6. It's what sets off a 6 inch stick of dynamite.
  7. Hey Guys Robbie and I are looking for a place to practice in between our trips to taney. Maramac is only 90 minutes away. We avoided it during the season because of the crowds. From what I hear, C&R season is a totally different experience. Any suggestions on places to stay. We are looking for soemthing close and something with internet access. Thanks LMW & WBF
  8. Gary Thanks for the recipe. they were goooooooooooood
  9. Hey Guys Robbie and I had a great time today. Robbie talked about it all the way home. I agree with the thread. Thanks all around, when can we do this again and what a great group of guys. What started out as a small thing grew into a great one. Nice idea Leonard. Did you think it would be this great? Thanks to Dave for the lesson and the info about the river. I agree with Dano. Hats off to Phil for giving us a great forum as a way to talk, share and now meet. BTW Russ, that 10 second fuse was the best fly I ever tried. Worked every single time! LMW & WBF
  10. GOOOOOOOD MORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNIIIINGGGGGGGGGG TANEYCOMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Well it was cold and wet yesterday. I found out the fishing is pretty good when it's cold and wet. Rob and I fished pretty much all day yesterday. We left about 1 PM, (needed warmer clothes), and got back ay 2:45. It had thinned out a bit by then. Ran into Topjaw. He was tearing it up on a black bunny leach. He said that sculpins were working as well. Another unnamed source was sold on cracklebacks. Me, I used a tan soft shell and for a change did very well. Smaller indicator, less weight and BOOYAH. Seems all these posts and all of the reading many of you suggested has paid off a bit. Lookin forward to meeting everyone. Dress warm.   LMW
  11. Have your cake and eat it too. Kiss her at midnight and haul it on down to fish. Me, I'm sleepin.
  12. Good Morning OA Everyone have a safe and Haapy New Years Eve. Don't need any mishaps tonight. See you all in the morning LMW
  13. Terry I believe we have a couple of camp stoves. Coffee pots are at a premium.
  14. Good Afternoon All Looking for a reort that will carry me into tomorrow. Rob and I will be at the dam between 6 and 7. Fished all day yesterday with ok results. Hooked up several times, but only landed 2. Dead drifted green or brown scuds and a brown soft shell. Hooked up late on an egg fly??? I did help a guy land a 4 pound bow around 4 yesterday. He was using a leach pattern that appeared to have a plastic worm tied into the fly. He fought it was too long and could not land it on his own. I kept thinking about Phil's cut it off comments. The said it was the bigest fish he had every caught, so I went swimming to net it and get her back in the water. She was full of eggs. Anyway, one guy was using a light grey scud, very shallow and was hooking up a lot. Any other suggestions? See you all Monday LMW
  15. Well Ducky The no neck thing won't work. I qualify as the big guy with no neck as well. I don't have any hair, so that might work
  16. That's good, Rob liked that. She did put a note in her live journal. It read, "Nothing says I love you like a call to 911!"
  17. Well, my oldest son has had way too much fun with all this. He decided that we needed to be identified at Taney. So for Christmas he went out and had hats made for us. So, If you see people at Taney with LMW on the hats they are wearing, ya know it's us. Rob says if she gets recognized anywhere but on the water or in the fly shops I will be sleeping on the coach until I retire or die. But she does love the hats. See you guys Monday
  18. Ducky See what I mean. Aren't these guys great. CYA NYD LMW
  19. Rob and I hit Taney this afternoon without gear. We got into town too late. Traffic around Silver Dollar City was ridiculous. Anyway, the water looked clear, but it looked very low. A few guys were catching fish, but they were small. We walked around, watched, and took pictures. We are hitting the water early in the morning. Any fishing reports out there.
  20. Thanks MoCarp Yo Crapppie Are those crypers related to the Taney Squid?
  21. Phil Sorry for the delay. Got to Branson today. Just got online. I see you have the insurance answer. A frien of mine lost a parent the day he was to fly to Jamaica. The insurance saved his vacation. It is cheap and well worth the price.
  22. Phil I have never used priceline, but one of my supervisors uses it to travel a lot. He has always been happy. Buy the insurance! I have used travelocity and expedia in the past. I find expedia to have more coices and good prices. Buy the insurance for thee as well. As for concerns about online shopping, I do it a lot. If you have good firewalls and secure conections you should be ok. Avoid unprotected wireless connections. I secure mine like fort knox. eBay rocks, but PayPal protects and serves. Never sold anything, so I don't know how that works, but from a buyers perspective you gotta love it.
  23. Yo Duck I was were you are now about 6 weeks ago. Look at the articles in the main website. Read as many as you can. Do some internet searches on knots. There are plenty of sites to pull from and most of the diagrams are great. Do the same thing for tippets, and leaders. You will get hits from OzarkAnglers.com. Start there first. Remember that everyone here is happy to help you. If they don't know the answer, they will hook you up with someone that does. hang on tight. You'll love the ride.
  24. Yo Shorty Welcome to trout newbie heaven. You will love this forum. Anything you need is here, and of course some things you don't. Where in St louis do you live. I live outside St Louis in Edwardsville, IL Enjoy LMW
