  1. What size tippet do you use at night? Also, do red lights scare the fish as much as white, I have a headlamp with a red light and was wondering if this would be better?
  2. I fished Saturday morning and talked with a hatchery volunteer while I was rigging up who said they temperature had dropped two degrees from the previous day, however, I did not ask what it was at. At least it is getting down where it needs to be. My toes started going numb and had not done that the 3-4 weeks prior. That's got to be a good(?) sign.
  3. I fished Saturday and Sunday early mornings and the fishing was really good. I fished below the rebar hole just downstream from the tree/roots sticking out of the water. Fished a few hours and each morning from about 6:30-10:00 before it was too crowded and had 20+ fish each day. As some of you assumed fishing was great in the rain, more people were sitting under the pavilion than were fishing!. Midges were working the best for me. I caught a couple brown and was wondering if anyone else has noticed increased brown presence in the upper lake? I caught one last weekend and 2 this weekend, I also saw a 25+ inch hog, but he wanted nothing to do with what I was throwing at him. I believe, but may be wrong, that this would be a little early? I just was not sure if the cooler than normal temperatures had anything to do with this?
  4. Thanks a ton for all of the help everybody. Wayne, I do tie, do you have any how to's or patterns for poppers, especially this small yellow foam spider. I was able to find patterns for some of the others listed. Once again thanks for all of the input everybody.
  5. I have fished the James once 5 years or so ago. My family has a cabin at Table Rock so I am down there quite often and sometimes when the water is running too hard to wade Taney I have thought about walking down the the lake, just not sure what I should throw or how to approach
  6. I have been fly fishing for trout for the last 15 years (I am 25) and have recently decided to branch out and try my hand at catching other fish. I am thinking of trying out table rock I have access to a boat dock and of course can fish from shore in coves and other areas, but usually no boat access. I am looking for advice on what I should fish for (bass, crappie, bluegill, etc), what flies to tie up, how to approach the fish (surface, submerged, strip, etc), leaders and tippets, and anything that would be helpful. I have a 6 wt Sage Flight so from what I have heard this should be able to handle bass? Thanks for any and all help!
  7. Definitely Charlie Reading at Reading's fly shop, he is the most knowledgeable around and has a shop just a mile or so up the road.
  8. The clymb is a great website. They put up deals on items, but they only last a couple days. Sierra Trading Post is another great site to check out.
  9. I have been in to plateau a few times to pick some stuff up, great shop! Just never looked for these. Thanks a ton guys. I think here in the next week or so I'll pick up some stuff to tie up some of rfd's suggestion as well as outside's slumpbuster. If I feel they are worthy I will put up some pictures. Thanks a ton guys.
  10. Thanks, I really love it down there.
  11. I really like the first fly there, two hooks is a little ambitious for my skill level. Do you or anyone else around here know of a fly shop in the Springfield/Branson area that carries the helmets?
  12. I checked out a video on the high water sculpin, I think that might be a little too advanced for me, but mostly a little too large for what I am wanting to throw. Here is a link to a sbs that I came across, let me know what your opinions are. It seems fairly simple, but I am not sure if a cone head or a dumbbell eye look would be better, also not sure on the colors. Thanks for the help. http://mtbpt.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-tie-cone-head-sculpin-fly.html
  13. Some of those look great. I have looked a lot online and I just don't know if there is a particular style or pattern that works well at Taney. Also I notice that some are very simple patterns and some are much more detailed and really take a sculpin form. Would the more detailed fly make a huge difference?
  14. Does anyone have a fairly simple sculpin recipe they would like to share? I just got back into tying and am wanting to tie up some sculpins for Taney.
  15. My name is Justin,I've been reading the site for a while and finally joined up. I am pretty much strictly a fly fisherman. I am 25 years old, grew up 20 minutes from Bennett Springs and have been fly fishing as long as I can remember. I now live in Springfield and fish at least every other week, but often more than that. My main fishery is taneycomo.
