  1. Ryan, you'll find the flats between Points 5 and 7 in the Big Sac Arm. They actually extend all the way down to the timber (past Birch) and also well into Sons Creek. The quarry is adjacent to Crabtree Cove on the NE corner of the lake. I've also heard some folks refer to the levees in the Highpoint area (Little Sac) as being part of an old quarry complex. I'm a recent arrival, though.
  2. Sorry, GF, haven't checked back here since then. Haven't been to Stockton either. So this is a bit dated. To answer your question, though: That day I caught 4 walleyes, only one was legal (16-17"). A buddy parked next to me pulled up a 21" eye on a white spoon. I was using #7 silver/black and perch colored Jigging Raps, also 1/2 oz. white/green HT Jiggers (about the same as a Jigging Shad Rap).
  3. Sorry, ryan, been fishing elsewhere lately. A friend has been sticking about a keeper a day toward evening on Rogues or 1/8-oz. jigs/seined minnows between Beaver Creek and Barker Hole. Lotta bass up there also.
  4. Sam, is your classic article still out there somewhere? Wouldn't mind seeing that again....I'm a big fan of that particular piece of writing. Hope you don't mind--thanks.
  5. Walleye bait in this area is a sore subject for me. K Dock probably won't open until 9:30, and all they carry is crappie minnows. Bob's Bait has great minners and is usually well supplied, but they like to sleep in too much. Seems like half the day is gone by the time they open. Place is for sale, I think. The one that's just past Hwy Y in Forsyth, I have never seen open. Ever. And I've been by there literally hundreds of times. I understand that there's such a thing as an off-season, but on the weekends? Sorry to be so gloomy. Best thing you can do is trap or seine your own, or do without.
  6. There's still room, although it looks like there'll be a pretty solid turnout. Should be a great show--it's an 8-hour pro course, packed into a 6-hour time slot. You can pay at the door. Tuition includes door prize drawing. See ya there!
  7. Caught a boatload yesterday on Jigging Raps at 55 feet in the Little Sac Arm. Mostly whites (actually caught about 50 in one half-hour stretch--fun!), plus crappies and walleyes. Whites and walleyes on bottom, crappies up 6-8 feet or more, in the shad. Midlake area, in the channel. Find a big concentration of shad, and you'll find fish. Channel swings near bluffs or the tips of points seem to be best.
  8. Wayne, what about trout???? Walleye were native to the rivers here. I agree that general interest in targeting them is not high, although that's probably a reflection of fish population dynamics (walleyes are secondary, thus harder to find and catch consistently). Everybody seems very happy whenever they catch one incidentally. I'm a northern transplant. Walleyes are what I fish for. The folks back home in Wisconsin all think I should be fishing for bass, since this is bass country--do as the Romans do. However, one thing that can be said for walleyes and trout in this area, that cannot be said for most other species: you've got a shot at a world record. Ryan, that includes Table Rock. Somebody needs to unlock the secrets there. Your best shot at catching some will be on the upper end of the lake, most of the year...
  9. Catching a few at Stockton. Hoping to get back to Bull Shoals, though, maybe with TR next weekend...
  10. Yup--but with UL gear, it's hard to get much of the hook point buried on a gar!!
  11. Hey, Sam. Nice to catch up with you! Been catching any crappies? Mike
  12. Thanks, guys--very interesting! Rainbow-fed walleyes just might be able to keep up with the browns for awhile...
  13. I know this is trout country, but I keep hearing things. Anybody ever caught any walleyes in Taneycomo? Thanks...
  14. I was fishing midlake channel swings. Hard to find a place to fish that's out of the wind up there! Late spring, early fall we like to jig the old coffer dam and adjacent rockpiles for walleyes.
  15. Wayne SW/MO, just guessing, but I don't think there's much point in trying for walleyes at the Pothole now. Barker Hole would probably be about as far up as you'd find 'em. With the lake down almost 10 feet, there'd be some 12-13 foot water there, but even that might not hold 'em during the day with the water so clear. The water's getting good and cold now, so the stretch from Cedar to Hogan should be prime for throwing Rogues to the channel drops and cuts.
  16. Friday afternoon, caught 3 walleyes to 20" and about a dozen whites, on spoons at 54 feet. Surface temp 42 degrees. Wind was filthy--had to backtroll with the 40hp to hold the spot. Got a little wet.
  17. Arkamo, as a Traveler are you familiar with the Tri-Lakes? I lied about getting down to Bull Shoals. The couple times I've been out have been on Stockton, fighting the wind. Have caught some walleyes and whites on spoons down deep. Would like to throw a Rogue for those upper BS walleyes, but I'd prefer the air temp to be above freezing so there's no problems with icing in the guides...
  18. Not having seen the lake lately, I'd probably play it safe and launch at Beaver Creek. I'd be heading downstream from there, anyway. Too much great water, not enough time. I'll be on Stockton Sunday, checking the spoon bite. Hope to fish BS next week! Good luck if you go.
  19. That's great news...see you guys out there!
