  1. Great pics of really nice fish guys. Hey, dont you love it when you tell people you are going fishing and they give you a hard time because of weather or any other reason and you have a stellar time anyways? I bet the family won't say anything next time because those browns are nice! Tight lines...
  2. Nice fish sir. I gotta get back up there soon. Last time I went my brother got super ill and we had to leave early. I saw some ridiculously fat fish in there though. Tight lines.
  3. Yes we did! Very cold, very risky, and very fun! My poor brother was brainwashed to go fly fishin' with me despite the conditions. We swang by Ozark Angler, where we were looked at kinda crazy, then headed to the boat ramp at Lobo Landing. The previos day I had gotten my truck pretty stuck on an incline not as steep as the boat ramp, but, hey, no risk equals no reward. So, down we went, fired up the jet, and took off. At low or no speed, no big deal, but let me tell you, when you get going in that kinda air temp, ANY skin that is exposed gets flash frozen. We stopped for a while at the top of the trophy area and picked off several bows with sows and small white streamers. Next we motored down to the trophy area to put a bug in their mug. The fish were biting good, especially in one particular area that was deeper and faster. Sow bugs and black/silver zebra midges were yeilding back to back hook ups. All the fish were small but pretty fiesty. Now were cold, time to leave. We hop in the boat, the motor cranks and smokes but doesn't start. I remove the cowling and try again, and the starter catches on fire! That's just everyday boating stuff right there people. $120 to replace the charred starter. It took over an hour to troll back up river to Lobo. The river is very pretty blanketed in snow and there is no one out. If you get the chance, get out and get with the program. Tight lines my friends.
  4. NIce video man. I noticed the right hand retreive spinning rod, very cool. Where are we at in this vid?
  5. LRF-----Richie Shoals is in between Barnett access and Cow Shoals. If you follow up river from Barnett you will eventually see a 180 degree turn, Richie is on the left side of the turn where the river flows south. It may be difficult to identify on Google maps because their image of the area is during generation. It's one of those shoals where you have to get out and do some dragging even if you have a jet boat. I have however drug small/large outboard/jets up/down this/other areas in pursuit of fishes. Wow, that was one heck of a way to word a sentence but you get the point, it is doable. A couple weeks ago I was floating through Richie and got cussed out by some ultra-cranky senior wade-only-nazis, really got a kick out of it actually. You shouldn't have any run-ins with the locals this week though, the cold will have the river pretty empty and void of people, except for areas like Cow Shoals and Winkley, which as a general rule of thumb always have some anglers. Ya, I can't wait to get back out there this week and put a bug in their mug, probably going to go 2 or 3 more times before I head out of town. Good luck out there bro, be sure to update us on how it goes. Thight lines. that lilley- Ya, the LRR is a fun place to hang out, but so is Taney. I don't get to make to Taney enough. That place owes me big time!! Soo many follows that I thought I was imagining fish after a while. We caught some but saw a million. Branson is always a ton of fun tho. You can't beat $25 hotel rooms at the Crescent Inn either. Tight lines sir.
  6. I had Richie all to myself for about 2 hours, no people, no birds, and very few fish. Yes boys it was a slow grind. My usual go to tactics I guess no longer the strong and steady fish-foolin' tecniques they used to be, but then again I ponder that situation a little whenever I don't get my way... I did manage to bring in this good lookin' brown via the sow bug, a big surprise I know. Water is very low, be careful if your out runnin' and gunnin' in your boats. The weather is supposed to be getting colder this week, dress warm and tight lines my friends.
  7. Justin, glad to hear you are taking up fly flishing. I spin and fly we have that in common. Like stlfisher says, the standard patterns are a good start. If the water is swift I prefer to use beadheaded flies to get them down quickly on a drift since the drift time will be decreased by the fast water. When fishing a certain spot or area, don't become discouraged and assume there is no fish there until you are absolutley 100% certain that you fished it as best as you could, making sure your technique was given your very best effort. You'll be suprised how fish just show up when you really focus. Try some 6x leader/tippet, monofilament will be easier to work with in the cold conditions. I could go on forever but above all just go have fun dude! Be sure to let us know how it goes...
  8. Alright, cool video.
  9. Ha! I tie those flies all the time, especially the GSGSN, or golden stone fly grass shrimp nymph, they work everywhere!
  10. Ya guys, I've heard that is the only spot to catch the elusive brookie on the LRR. It's always cool when you catch a new or rare species. I always get a kick out of whatever devides to bite my hooks, trophy or "trash!" Jason- Exactly what kind of fish is that you're holding in your profile pic cuz it's huge? Some sorta Muskie or Pike maybe? LittleRedFisherman- Ya, the LRR is definitely some good fishing, this year wasn't my absolute best. (not counting the brook!) Very little rain and low flow required some tactical adjustments, but still had a great time as always. Taney, Norfork, and The Mighty White were on fire for me this year. I'll be down there for a week from Christmas to New Years so keep those reports of your's coming and I'll fill you in on whatever breaking news develops from my outings. What flies are hot for you down there?
  11. I strolled down to JFK to kill some time on Saturday around noon. I just left Cow Shoals, wasn't fishing but just looking around, where there were one too many anglers. The weather was nasty, how I like it, and the water was low. When I arrived at JFK the water was up just a hair. I gear up and head to the discharge pipe to drop a sowbug. I unzip my bad and low and behold I had forgot my box that had my special Little Red goodies in it. The midge was drifted and ignored. The water began to drop so I marched up and down that stretch doing everything I could to fool a fish. The predominant thought in my head was how everyone at the wedding I was attending later was going to ask if I caught any fish; I could always lie to'em and they'd never know but I'd rather just say "yes, I did, here's a picture." By now, the sun is coming out and a hatch is coming off ever so slightly causing the water's surface to come alive with leaps, swirls, and boils. I am ill-equipped to capitalize so I watch my window of oppurtunity swim by. I get desperate and head back to the pipe. BINGO! Lots of fish moving in and out. I tie on a 16 Blue Dun/Silver BH Zebra midge, sorta almost sow buggy if you go crosseyed till your eyes get blurry but not really, and set the indicator no more than a foot above. After x-number of casts, BOOM! My indicator blows up! Hooray! As I bring the fish in I notice that this is no rainbow, this must be a brook. Ahh, my first brook trout. I'm feeling really important at this point and ready to call mom with the good news. What a pretty fish.
  12. Cool vid, kept me very entertained. Now I got that "gotta go" feeling!
  13. Howdy, I'm new to this forum and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Marcus. I moved up here to Fayetteville August of 2011 and have really enjoyed scouting out and fishing all the spots in the area. My home waters, The Little Red and Greers Ferry Lake, are located in beautiful Heber Springs where all this fishing madness began. I've been reading all of everybodies tips/tricks and fish stories on here for a while now so I felt like it is time I contribute. I like to chase fish on the fly and the lure. So, where yall been fishin' lately?
