  1. I got the old one, its 34" wide, it's not bad for now, one day ill upgrade when the time is right. I like the topwater as well, they have the best fit and finish. But the 15k price tag is way more than I will drop for a new river boat... I know Rex Curley he is a long time and one of the best guides you will ever find. When I seen he was running a Playcraft River skiff it made me take notice. He said he loves his boat and that's saying a lot. He has had a couple of them. That's what I been looking at. Seems to be the best value in river boats today. I'm gonna re-gel mine for now & run it, try and save up some to get me a cash deal w/ a new 4 stroke.. I was with u, it just seemed high to me, but I did not know much about them. Thanks man
  2. well i hate to say it but its all time dependant now a days.. with the prices of shipping & fuel it will change daily it seams like .. its sold by the #.. bot its about 5-6.00 a # .. & about 10# a gal so any where from 50-70 a gal depending on the day from rob at supreme ... bass cat has some colors & there doesn't seem to vary its 84 a gal. i haven't checked with ranger yet. hey muddy, i found a j&s on here for sale w/25 hp merc , jack plate & trolling motor for 8K, that seems pretty high to me for a used 2010... whats your input on this being an owner of one, i have never seen one up close.
  3. sorry Gavin no disrespect ment.. lol but really thanks we all have a place ... & we thank go d for you guys! greasy b - i am using fiberglass vinyl resin & chopped glass mat where needed.. & the white is gel goat, just like Gay used.. you can get the stuff you need from any of the local boat builders here like bass cat or ranger... you can also contact rob williams at shawnee boats & he will sell you the gel coat as well.. 870-404-9791. just let him know you have an an older one you need to regel, i'm sure he will be more than happy to help you out.. all you need is a shady spot on a nice day , about 75-80 degrees & a roller w/ a dozen low nap rollers for the gel... you will need to clean w/ soap & water & then wipe w/ asitone.. of corse fix any gouges.. sand them out good w/ 36 grit & lat in some glass matt & sand smooth .. then get all smooth & roll out like paint.. anything that is not to your liking you can wet sand, apply more if needed &/or then just buff it ..once you roll it, it will be glossy all by itself..
  4. i haven't seen him in close to 30 years...i was a little boy last time i seen him.. he is a heck of a boat builder.. it must a heck of thng to see so much of what you made all over the place..
  5. greasy b what kind is that? edit * never mind i see the shanwee sticker now...
  6. well even though your are a SEEBEE.. i must thank you for your service.. lol i was USAF. I have thought of grey, but part of me says it should say origonal. i was goin to do that white till we we put it down.. holy cow is that stuff bright! it also shows way to much dirt.. but would be nice on the feet in 100 degree weather! i'm just kinda torn between updating it & keeping it old school.. i like old school..
  7. Thanks what color do you think.. Im thinking back to the original green..
  8. I dont know there has been a ton of river boat company's over the years.. And as greasy b said almost all made a river boat at some point.. I just seen a campion on Saturday when i was out... That was a first for me. I guess the guy used to work there an they would let them build them in there off time.. Thats cool! This is nothing fancy, im fixing it up, and there is another post on under this on building a custom boat that a member asked me to post some pic so i did.. If u want to see the rest of the project stages check that out.. Im trying to decide on a color to gel coat.. Im thinking back to original green..
  9. Well after much asking and searching I have found and spoken to the one of the builders of my boat! It was cool! It was a couple of brothers named bill and Kenneth smith. Kenneth lives on 235 just up past the yellville water tower. The old boat plant was about 2 miles from there.. The holiday company stated out building fiberglass shower and tub enclosure's. Kenneth told me the built mostly lake boats at one time, on only a few river boats, my serial # is 1009, being the 9th boat built... What's even cooler is well , this is sad, around 76-77 he thought, the company was sold to his brother in law and about a year later is burnt... They lost everything but the transom clamp. Which was sold to Gay Roary who started Shawnee, and is still in use building the supremes and Shawnees floating the same river... Now for me this is not only super cool but super important, as time goes on this is local history. History that is slowly being lost. As our friends, family, favorite guides age, and pass so does the greatness, the rich history, the great stories, tall tales , best people, wise men we will ever know... Elmo hurst , bill Johnson, Sam Walton, were all good men.. Bill was like a grandfather to me.... I was lucky enough to know Elmo, am able to call is son my friend, meet Sam Walton all because of Bill Johnson. Due to great men like Bill I meet and got know and learn a little from guys like Rex, Alvin and some I have forgotten... But theses are guys that took time to talk to me and teach me something! Which I not only am thankful for , but still remember to this day... Alvin has long passed, god rest his sole, I thank god for men like him! For all you that at or may not read this.... Rex, thanks, I know I am missing a bunch, most you I haven't seen in 25 years, but I haven't forgotten a lot of you guys that used to put up with me at Hurst fishing services. Because of you, I always try to help anyone I can, weather at the river or a tourists at Walmart ... I remember being that frustrated kid and getting a lot of help. I am still getting it today, a guide named Buzz, funny guy super cool, has helped me return and get back into it with my boys very quickly... Richard cross, the zig jig creator has been wonderful! The zig jig if don't know is awesome! I just ordered 5 dozen and a rod from him! Super cool guy! I grew up,on the river graduated from cotter and can't believe I am just now hearing about them.. Sat was a slow day for me but I have never ever caught a brown till I fished the zig jig, sat I got this one & Sunday b4 I caught one this one is 16" and the the one last week was 14.. Not monsters, but I'm catching good fish I have never caught b4, and I'm learning to use, it does have a small learning curve, but once u get it.. It's on!
  10. By the way adley this boat above is 34 wide on inside, and its tight.... Now I can go any place I want, I squeeze in some crazy places some by accident and lack of skill! Lol. But if I was building I would do a min of of 40".. Only for comfort... This boat feels tippy, but is very stable for what it is... I am shocked at how stable it is for as narrow as it is... But common sense play a large part on the river... Or any body of water... Stuff happens but being aware is major. I looked at the famous floats boat that was for sale, it was 23 ft. Long, that's was sweet, if I remember it was 54" wide.. I'd like to try my hand at building one for myself...
  11. Here is the corner I fixed... U can see that most of it ended up being ground out to repair properly... Same here just sealed the glass on the deck, this is all new as well... Fixed some cracks in the floor, couple more to go .but noting that can't wait, I had to be ready to fish!
  12. Here a sealer coat of gel till if get the color color picked out.... And here is that 10 seat I picked up and had redone at deans top...
  13. Sorry for delay Gavin... With no shop I been waiting on the weather.. Here you can see new motor mount I glassed in works great, really helps bring weight in and floats a lot flatter in the shallow waters I have no probs running up the skinn water now..
  14. how do you like it, i have only seen 1 of them & it was on the white last summer, i bet it was u.. lol looked like a nice boat.. it was white w/ red if i remember right.. just above narrow shoals in july. thats the only js i have ever seen here.. i'd like to find out were there molds went , i'd like a shot river boat biz.. i tryed to call & left a message for old owenr & sent email but have never gotten a responce.. i'd like a topwater, but man are they spendy... they are super nice & fit & finish is the best i have ever seen! quaility is top notch, i have looked at a 4 or 5 now & they are super slick boats. u decided on that upgrade yet? i am like u, i am torn, i have a 79 merc, runs great & is really good on fuel for an old 2 stroke.. but i worry with mine that parts are so rare that i may not have a choice... i keep hearing talk of a ban on 2 strokes on the river but i have not found any real info on it, i think its just folks stir'n the pot.
  15. gotmuddy i thought js boats went out of business?
  16. I grew on the river, knew Bill johnson, he was like a grandfater to me, so i was always around hurst fishing service as a kid going up, so i got to know some of teh guides on the white .. but that was years ago.. some have passed & some i still see, & they are helping me.. i am meeting new ones & they are awesome folks! they help me & i help everyone i meet.. its just how it should be.. a way of life down here on the river, one we should not forget... guys that used to build boats, like gay, were this way, bill.. theres a lot of history on this river & i hope to pass as much along as i can...i am so blessed to live here & raise my kids here. i look forward to seeing some of you on the river.. i am happy i found this place.
  17. i have a similar boat, w/ a 79 merc 9.8 sweet on fuel, will do 10 mph againts 3 genorators in the gastons area below the dam by gps reading.. poters pawn has a few if u are in mtn home area.. has a nice 15 hp johnson for 999.00... they normally deal pretty well.. but my 9.8 gets me every were i want & i am learning .. thats the biggest part, learning to read the water! once u master that its easy! i'm still learning & my prop shows it!!! lol
  18. heres a pretty pick from the boat in september.. went fishing after my passed to clear the old head...
  19. super duper sweet... i tried that b4 & did not work.. ??? thast normaly how i do it.. anyway thanks for help.. i got new seats for spidders & a new driver seat @ deans in mtn home right now, its from a ranger bass boat .. so i'll be super comfy ! my driver seat is a sas suspenion seat from a commanchee i picked up for 10, at a fleamarket localy..
  20. i have tried everything, i have read & reread the picture instructions, & i dont see the the chose file or upload buttons under the text box.. copy & past , drag & drop did not work.. drag & drop gives me any error, post is too short.. i have been on forums b4 & never done it this way.. maybe its too simple for me.. lol
  21. i will post one for u but i use photobucket & its not accepted here.. i have to get a new account ..
  22. it was painted, its an ugly dark green, wanted to have it done in white & have a full transom put on & get rid of single motor mount board... its not fancy, i know gary wright, he has offered to led his wonderful knowelage to me & help.. i may take him up on it but i have no place to do it.. my garage is too small. i may give is try as weather get better.. but then i'll be fishing more! lol
  23. i have an old Holiday river boat, just wondering if any one has any info they could pass down... i know they were in yellville, on hwy 235 some place, company started in 1970, & closed in mid to late 70's, and thats about were the road gets cold.. more histroical than anything for me. any any suggestions for who could do a little fix'n up on the old girl? i like old stuff, i grew up in one, i think its cool to have one, & one day when i have the cash to upgrade i will, but for now i'm just enjoying fishing! any help would be great, any facts would be super cool...i would love to keep a little history a live & pass it on to my 3 little boys..thanks
  24. hey guys just found this nice litlle place.. been roaming for a couple weeks & thought i'd sign up & see if could learn some stuff. i'm no expert, & you guys are alittle over my head at times, but have you looked at st.croix line at all? i have a primier 66ul for trout fishing and its my first really high dollor rod... very nice.. i had been using a bps crappie maxx 66ml but was to heavy stiff for my taste.. my wife got me a berkly 7'l troutdough rod, but i have to get to use it yet.. seems right in the area that i will like the feel... the priemiers are not as spendy, so you give um a look ... i love mine & noramlly dont fish with anything else..
  25. i am new here, so hello... but i run an old holiday 20' 6" that they made in the early 70's in yellville on 235 some place.. i was born in 78 so the boat is older than me.. lol but its a 34" bottom outsides.. and its really stable, i was shocked, this is my first real jon boat built for the river... its old & kinda ugly, but it floats & gets me & my boys out till i can afford an upgrade... but in reading this i just wanted to pass along that the narrow is not too bad.. i take a 3,7 & 10 year old with me..
