  1. I grew up using Wheaties because it always out fished everything else for us. No soda, the Wheaties cost enough then. To make the doughballs you take a handful and dip your hand in the water, pull it out and start squeezing the water out. It seems like it won't bind, but it will and when you get a ball that stays together set it aside and let it dry a little. In 15-30 minutes it will develop a rubbery consistency. You can fish them fresh, but only where you can gently lob them. There are videos showing how to skin carp. If I remember right they start near the anal fin and using a sharp knife they cut the skin and scales away.
  2. Simon I'm sure you have noticed there is a big difference in the guides between the two rods and there is a good reason for that. The bottom line is you seriously restrict your distance.

Oh I don't think there is any doubt he will be drafted and drafted high. The down side for him, I believe, is that the team will hold off on paying him big bucks until he proves himself on and off the field. I think this cost him millions already and if he screws up either before the pros or early in the pros he might well be done.
  4. Ham you have a problem, and it ain't about room. I know I have no room to talk.
  5. No Wheaties?
  6. Now you've done it, who's the guy going to PO if no one comes into his cove?

It's my understanding that he is not eligible to play for division one team. It has been reported that he will have to go to a division two team. The problem he will face there is in showing off his talents. The NFL scouts will downgrade him most likely because of the defensive talent. He made his rep against SEC talent, but that's history.
  8. No they aren't invasive as the term is generally used. Just like Brown trout, they were stocked deliberately, only as a food fish as opposed to a sport fish.
  9. Al I started tube fishing with a pair of these, the Fishmaster fins. They should work about as well as anything where wading is concerned. I think they are more effective then fins overall because the motion is natural. It's about the same as walking.
  10. Yeah I would question that it is the MDC making those rules. They might on a lake they control, but Fellows??? I would start by calling the city and ask if the rule is true, and if it is why it isn't posted as opposed to some asswipe screaming at people.
  11. Yeah when the high in April won't likely hit the average low temperature something ain't right.
  12. If they are canned they are really good. Once they are canned all the bones go soft and they can be used just like tuna or mackerel. Large ones, 15# or so can be baked and the bones are large enough that they don't present problem. I know you don't eat them, but these suggestions might light some interest in someone else. There's restaurant in Omaha that specializes in carp sandwiches. From what I know they skin them, score them like suckers and then deep fry. I understand that this place has been around for a long time.

I'm sure he'll end up in a small college for another year and then go on to the NFL. This will cost him big time however because no NFL team will pay up front what they would have. They will likely put him on a little to no bonus until they feel they can trust him.
  14. I've seen them at Cox access, but I don't know how that compares to the water level. I suspect that TR would have to be high to push them that far up.
  15. I believe any creek that flows year around is considered navigable. The thing is it's probably not worth stirring up trouble with the landowners by fighting wire on small creeks. Once word spreads so will the confrontation. It's best to fight the important battles, like access on the bigger creeks and rivers. Much of this goes back to the original surveys and while the bigger waters were used as boundaries, the smaller ones weren't and there will always be a different attitude when someone owns bank to bank.
  16. If they are spawning the end is near for the run.
  17. If you like a hoppy ale try an Anchor Steam clone.
  18. I've got a great porter recipe, if I can find it I'll send it to you. Sugar????????????????
  19. Yup. Carp and Buffalo were readily available anywhere close to the big river. Fee lakes were common and you either paid a set fee for a preset number of fish or you paid an entry and then by the pound. The set fees were generally $.50-$1. oneshot
  20. Now you've done it!. That's tough to answer because all have their place. The inflatables are the most stable and easiest to transport. The kayak is easy to transport car top and is the most maneuverable. The canoe is the fastest, and will carry the biggest load in terms of bulk and can be a tandem. It kind of depends on your needs and where you will use it most often. for the Niangua and as a solo, I would go with the inflatable or the kayak. The inflatable would probably be my first choice because it's easy to use it as transportation and wade to fish, something that I think works well on the Niangua.
  21. Nice pictures. The eagle above the river is almost identical to an experience my son and I had below the 64 access. The eagle didn't leave until we had passed under him.
  22. Interesting. I would like to put faces on many of the old guard.
  23. History will be made tonight, maybe twice.
