  1. There's a place on Beaver creek that fits your description perfectly, that was what I was thinking.
  2. I would go to a Boat show and climb all over the boats that interest you, open the hatches, sit at the wheel, sit in the front at the TM control, and then go to the next possibility. Most of the brand name boats are well built and most of the differences will be in comfort of the layout, which is why its important to check the distances to see if they are comfortable, the hatch fittings, storage, etc.
  3. Cottonmouths certainly aren't aggressive and in the few encounters I've had with them I never felt in danger. I went my way and let them go theirs.
  4. I don't know that there is a "time". Most start in earnest a little later, but right now there is very little water.
  5. Okie, hows the fishing west of Buffalo creek? Is it worth the license? Have you seen that the Elk is only 24 fps above the all time low?
  6. Hmmm, that looks kind of familiar.
  7. I was thinking Flukes, Assasins, and the like. By generic I just meant soft minnow imitations.
  8. And there is a KOA on the banks of upper Taney. The real trick to wade fishing upper Taney is watching this site. http://www.swpa.gov/generation.htm Nothin' like a Smallie.
  9. Phil are you using Sluggo as a generic term, or do mean Sluggo's specifically?
  10. The Smallies appear to have another threat now in the form of extreme low water. Many of the waters in SW Missouri and Arkansas are heading for record lows, or have already reach them.
  11. Interesting thoughts. Gar are fish eaters and there are some in there big enough to eat some good size Whites, not to mention a lot of Shad. Thread fin are said to prefer shallow water, so with the high water of late, possibly many moved into the brush thus putting them out of reach of open water fish like Whites. I'm also curious about how successful their spawn has been.
  12. There are plenty of fish in the lake. The only thing Taney lacks is enough public bank access to fishable water. Thats just another reason why I wish they would protect the big fish in the upper mile, it still leaves about 25 miles, I believe it is, of Trout water. No Kokanee, they aren't that desirable.
  13. They're not very important, until you really need them. I would rather have a palm drag then a poor friction drag however. While I have a few ATH, Orvis, Ross etc with all the bells and whistles, for our waters a smooth reel that could be palmed when one hooks that rare lunker would work well.
  14. I've only seen the Wipers at Truman close enough for a flyrod one time. That was because we happened to get a spot that is rarely open. I have often wondered what the lower lake is like. One would think they surface in some areas down lake.
  15. Do you use large streamers for the most part? I've seen a usable stripping basket made from a plastic tub and a belt.
  16. My theory is that they revolve around the winter water temperature and Spring rains. They need a good population of Threadfin, which is helped by warmer Winter water temps. They need a good clean flow in the creeks to spawn. When we get high discolored water the eggs don't hatch properly and the spawn is scattered in the water column, making them vulnerable to predation. Lakes to our southwest rarely see Shad kills and they have huge populations.
  17. I too am curious how you were fishing the different depths.
  18. Its pretty common in Bennett Spring.
  19. I have some good memory's of the Illinois below TK. Back in the late 60's, early 70's I had a friend whose family farmed on it. The area was a Deer and Duck paradise. There was a little Trout fishing, but it wasn't great, and of course there were no Stripers.
  20. What you're describing probably isn't any less disturbing then wading. Shuffling is literally digging your boots into the gravel and stirring it up, which releases the various critters that use it for cover. It floats away the feed and nymphs, somewhat sterilizing the the area for quite awhile.
  21. I was there from 11-1, but it was full and it was a case of fishing one or two spots. I knew I should have got my rear in gear earlier. I will say that there wasn't much of a crowd around the outlets, I too didn't see a shuffler. I didn't see a lot of fish caught, but with the water extremely low and a big crowd, I'm sure the fish were on the spooky side. They wouldn't rise to a Gnat, no matter how hard I tried to will them too.
  22. "Hopefully they will test downstream toward Rockaway beach where it is deeper and easier on propellers." Well the props are BPS's loss. Rockaway really doesn't want them test driving there. If they want to sell them in Branson, perhaps the should test them there.
  23. Well theres a place North of the "whistles" on Devils Teatable that fits that description.
