I bake store bought fish often. I coat the fillets with olive oil and sprinkle with a Lemon Pepper and Basil. I generally bake them 15-20 minutes at 325 and then hit them for 5 under the broiler. I hit Trout with much the same spice and oil, but I wrap it in foil and throw it on gas or charcoal. I just can't get into Trout that has been frozen so I do them fresh, gutted and gilled.
  2. We, my son and I, made a couple of trips and I also went with some friends a couple of times. They certainly went out of their way to make our trips successful. I haven't been since the late 80's however. Nice people.
  3. Is that the same Jim from the fly shop, guiding and resort with his brother?
  4. I tie mine like the original, with turkey, more often then not. I have started tying the holographic green tinsel and its effective. The pattern seems to have morphed into a peacock back palmered under a brown hackle, body optional. I suppose its a question of whether its just a different look to the ageless and long successful Woolly Worm.
  5. While the Corp will never own up, I suspect that Beaver had a lot to do with it. It often crowds its maximum capacity. I may be wrong, but I suspect they messed up on Beaver and needed away to avoid compromising TR.
  6. I would combine them Phil. I think those that fish the river also fish Bennett.
  7. I was just curious. I use felt, and have for more years than I can remember and its hard to beat. I fish a lot of Smallies streams and wade them, they don't get the cleansing that a lot of Trout streams do and felt is mandatory.
  8. jdavis, did you try stripping anything? Leonard, what do you have on the bottom of your boots, I don't find it that slick there.
  9. They are already limited, but its simply not that far from say KOA to the dam. I may be overlooking something but slow from KOA to the dam can't be all bad because a lot of guides, and individuals, already practice it.
  10. I'll try to make it.
  11. There was a feature on the news this week about the marina being dry. Don't know about the ramps. I would think that the North Fork might be warmer and draw fish up however.
  12. There are two different situations emerging here. Anchored boats are a different animal then waders in the Trophy area. While there are situations that don't allow you to stay on plane and, because of proximity, you have to slow down. If you're on the upper end on a busy weekend you'll have to bring your lunch to reach the upper end if you slow for every boat anchored or drifting. Waders are different, not because they are special, but because they are fishing at the destination and boats coming up won't lose any significant time by slowing for them. An "idle" zone wouldn't do any harm there. Several years ago I was fishing beside the ramp in the trophy area and a guy in a bass boat would come well inside my casting range, probably within 25', of me every time he returned from a drift. I had a problem understanding why until I realized he was drifting the other side, so he wanted to mess up my fishing, not hurt his, not that it would have.
  13. Phil sells some dandys, or they at least appear to be. Maybe he'll share the pattern of the one by the cash register?
  14. They are planning on generating some power, which is a plus, but I doubt the Shad will be moving, a negative for the upper end, IMHO. I would go to Taney I believe.
  15. Sorry, I noticed the implication but there isn't an edit feature. Below 45 is threashold for Threadfins. I might point out that the fish become conditioned quickly and once there is a kill, dead or dying Shad aren't required to fool many fish, just something that resembles a Shad for several days after..
  16. This is the third group that dictates much of the thought. You have those who kill none in a weekend trip, those that kill 1 or 2 and those that kill as many as a dozen or so. I think a large number of C&R tags will encourage some to go even farther. This is why I see no other solution than a C&R section. The offset to the argument is that it makes more fish available in the other areas. I might point out that the idea is at least 25 years old, and I don't know why the MDC seems to have had no interest in the past? The thinking now may be that they are looking ahead to their hatchery capacities.
  17. You wouldn't want to call the winner a "Wimp".
  18. Their die off threshold is said to be -45 degrees, but they also have to be near the dam at the time they turn belly up.
  19. One problem facing new tiers is that what they tie looks pretty rough compared to those bought. While perfection is important for selling, it isn't that important to the fish. What I'm saying is that the learning process is not a loss.
  20. Tournaments should be judged by their affect on the resource, not by their affect on fishermen, because they are one and the same. During Spring Crappie time TR looks like one big tournament, but one can't expect others quit in order to give them space.
  21. knuck, stay on plane, besides you'll move fast them too fast for a salute. Really the best thing anyone can do is pass as far away as possible on a plane.
  22. I think it would be great. From my stand point I don't have any problem with the MDC, and as a matter of fact, as an old native, I'm quite proud of what they have achieved, but their work will never be done. I have had a problem with the DNR, and while I have seen some positive things from them, they have still done things that were ill advised in my opinion and failed the responsibitity of protecting our heritage.
  23. I guess Tippet the thing is that this thread has had 19 replies, and 123 views. While many of those are people rechecking, others aren't. PM me, I'll tell all.
  24. Hi Steve, thats the same Ollie. Ham and I fished your creek, using your directions, when we were down in your backyard. As soon as I get free of a nagging virus, I plan on hitting RR, maybe this Sunday. I drive a white Liberty now.
  25. I put my kayak in under the 160 bridge last April and fished the hole there. There were two women fishing with worms under the bridge structure. They pulled a Walleye out that they said was legal, it looked legal from my vantage point. There is access to lower Beaver on Slough Hollow road, which is just east of the 160 bridge. I don't know how good the fishing is, but it gets hit heavily at the whistles. Does anyone know if there is a spawning run up Beaver?
