  1. Bobber had a 2 man kayak, don't remember the brand, but he fished with his nephew out of it. He didn't seem to have any problems on the Elk or Buffalo when I was there. Justin offering something like a Coosa to try before you buy is a worthy service in my opinion.
  2. That's a great question. The only thing I can come up with is that it was a habit that followed the dry fly. Streamers and dries pre-date nymph's. Streamers were tied on straight or up-eye hooks and the bend held then upright with the help of a flat, vertical body.
  3. So I'm not suppose to think it would make it? I just think that in my experince, and I have some, a decent SOT should handle it. I didn't mention the Tarpon, but I suspect it would make it also. Maybe you should take yours Smalliebigs and let us know. As far as class goes, I'm not familiar with the St Francis so I can only go by what American White Water says.
  4. It looks like fun, but I'm not sure about the impressive. A SOT will take more water than a SIK and any of them should be able to handle class II.
  5. I believe the the Kings River Outfitters uses them. I've also seen some on the Buffalo, but I don't remember any names.
  6. Very true and court cases cost money that could be used to further prosecutions.
  7. And then only if you get caught. Does anybody know what the forfeit rules are?
  8. Thats those little trees that are usually in a bunch and they bloom about a week before the dogwoods Where dogwoods are generally in singles back in the woods, serviceberrys seem to come in bunches. If it wern't for the fact that I have several dogwoods here, I would probably pass them of as dogwoods.
  9. I need to pass this information on to my son, my granddaughter would go for this. When do you start them?
  10. I saw a Serviceberry in bloom today, but for some reason the patch that is generally first hasn't bloomed. Drought effect maybe? My Dogwoods don't seem to be that close yet. I don't know that they matter in a year like this because I think the whites are controlled by water temps and the plants by ground temps and light. Some of my trees and roses have been leafing out for a week or two now and that is eeeaarly.
  11. Here's an update. Shadow Rock is open to people displaced and/or involved in the recovery in Branson, for free. I don't know what exactly this will mean for the park or when it will end, just passing it on.
  12. I don't think a lot of people would have a problem with it. They buy mercury laced Atlantic salmon and Tilapia that is probably raised in sewer ponds in SE Asia. I don't, but many do.
  13. Thank you Smalliebigs, the acknowledgment is appreciated.
  14. Mine was a J C Higgins (Sears and Roebuck) reel on a True Temper steel rod. The rod was square. Every kid back then dreamed of getting a Pflueger Supreme or a Shakespere President. I bought mine with money earned working saturdays in a gracery and later I got a real job, delivering papers.
  15. Mine aren't and neither are the Serviceberry's.
  16. It appears that River Run will be open also. I think they might be a little early this year, but who knows how early if at all. They will be in the upper end and at the pothole longer that in Swan or Beaver and if we don't get to much rain they'll be in reach of the bank.
  17. I don't know where you're going to float, but some areas of the Niangua don't have a lot of G-eyes. You might have to eat trout. A good quality #8 is generally my choice, but #6 isn't bad. I like P-line Premium, but all the P-lines excel. As far as one rod, I would have an extra 2 piece 5 or 5 1/2 spinning rod tucked in somewhere because accidents do happen. A Berkley lightening is a good candidate, they're light and don't have guide inserts to get knocked out and their cheaper than their quality in my opinion..
  18. That's true, but they do tend to feed on a fish that has few predators after a year or so. I don't think a lot of people realize that shad feed on the same thing that juvenile game fish do and compete directly. There are those however who cry doom while ignoring lakes that under the same circumstances have suufered no problems.
  19. I would think Rooster tails would work. Swimming minnows are very popular in the area, smoke, purple, white and chartruese are good colors, especially smoke. I haven't talked to anyone who has caught any whites around the pothole. I doubt they would be up there in any numbers yet though.
  20. Wow! I didn't realize that either. I have heard that one of the reasons the MDC is cautious about them is that they have a tendency to travel. I don't know if that is because they feed near the surface in schools and are more prone to being swept over dams of if they seek flows over the spillways. That juvi ceratinly had to come from somewhere.
  21. They say that Asian carp are above average in food value. If the gubmit would keep a little money back from the rat hole and put some into encouraging a new and probably benificial industry we might be able to at least hold the line on them. I suspect there 's a whole lot of people who would rather be on the river catching fish by any method than working in a factory.
  22. No pun intended, but you take Barker Hole road to the right off 160/76. The road is about where you start rise on 160/76 east of Shadow Rock. There's a two track to the right, but it's steep at the end and it's not always wise to go down. I haven't been down it in a couple of years so proceed at your own risk. The Whites will eventually be in Beaver and Swan, but they will start lingering around the Pothole before that. It shouldn't be long. You might also want to watch the generation at Table Rock. Catching always seems to stop when the flow does in the Pothole.
  23. Smallies aren't stocker trout and there are those days when they can be hard to come by.
  24. Eric and I aren't talking about spinning gear. Baitcasters are a whole different animal with a much high skill level. You don't see 8 year lods with baitcasting gear normally. That's not a knock on spinning gear, I have uses for it too, but it can't do what baitcasters can either.
  25. I'm rod poor, but that's a good price on an above average setup.
