  6. Just for fun, I would hit the outside corners of dock for Kentuckies. Topwaters, small swim baits, grubs, etc. Key on small docks on bluffs.and bigger condo docks too.
  7. Awesome fish/ awesome day..!!!!!!!.....grrrrr and I won't be on the water for at least a couple weeks.....
  8. I live fairly close, but havent been on it in a while. The club tourney guys say the area near the dam is best so use that ramp. There are some nice timbered coves near the dam that seems to produce well and a good stumpy point near the west side of the dam that should have some fish on it. Last time I was there I had 4 musky bites so be prepared.

    Squatters

tresspassing on your land? Call the law.... If not your land, the skunk idea sounds good,..and call the law for suspicious drug activities.
  10. Thanks guys, I'll practice all I can. Arrow shopping today.
  11. Howdy gang,....This fall I am going to give bowhunting a try on our property in Shannon county near the Jacks Fork. We have 10 acres of thick brush that has a few trails and rubs. We have had a game camera out since March and see that deer are showing up to the mineral block almost every day. They arent much on size, mostly does with a little 5 point also. We also had a small group of turkeys in a pic so I know they pass by. I built a small natural blind from cedars and pines about 10 yards from the trail. I used to bow hunt hard up here in northeast mo as a teenager and young adult. My dad and I had some awesome places to hunt and seen alot of nice deer. We got a few and then I got into tournament bass fishing real hard and slowly gave up the sport. Dad stayed after it until his health started catching up with him. He was always more interested in turkeys more than deer, but never took a turkey archery style. I have no idea how many he got with a shotgun...maybe 50 plus? We both had some near misses, I came home with a handful of tail feathers once that I sliced off a hen with a wasp broadhead. Dad passed away in February, he had been going down hill in the fall and they found the cancer in early December. He got to stay at home and didnt have to go to a nursing home or a hospital, which was his wish. He was a barber by trade but loved the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt. He could kick my butt crappie fishing almost every time. He was a state champion turkey caller too, I think back in 79. Dad killed a turkey with a band on its leg, one of the first turkeys relased in Monroe County. He also killed a buck with a radio collar. It was captured up here near Deer ridge and he killed it near Mark Twain Lake. That little 7 point did a lot of traveling that fall. I have Dad's last bow, it isn't much but means alot to me. Its a Hoyt Raider , 60 lbs at a 29" draw. It has regular wheels instead of those fancy cam ones that everyone uses now days. Its fixed up with some pin sights and I found some old tabs, For the new guys ,,, tabs are what we used before releases. I picked up some 100 gr Muzzys at Bass Pro last week. .This week I am going to the archery shop, see if it needs a new string and pick up about a half dozen arrows. Sizes?? My goal is to bag a deer and maybe even a turkey this fall with dad's bow. He never got to see our new place and future retirement spot. But in some way, I think Dad will be right there with me, and his old bow, teaching me and helping me, like he always did.
  12. Key on the backs of creeks or coves if it has been raining, if not, try flats. Try nightcrawlers, they will let you know if any fish are in the area as well as catch a few cats. Try 1 with a float, Use doughbait. Rip rap areas are always good.
  13. Coosa , that is a pretty stretch to float. We floated it a couple falls ago. Seemed like the fish were stacked in certain stretches and not everywhere. The deep water areas around Eminence were the best.
  14. We traveled south to our place near the Jacks Fork . for the Labor Day weekend. Spent most of our time working on the land and getting the blind ready for hunting season. But we did fish most of the day Friday near the Bacher acess . The river is really low and as always,...clear. We caught more goggle eyes than smallies, probably due to the small baits we were throwing. The best smallie might have been 14" or so. . We did see several in the 17"-18" class but they were spooky and did not want to bite. A couple of good fish chased my goggle eyes back to the bank as I reeled them in. A small uncle bucks crawfish worked well along with a senko. I tried topwater for a little while but remembered why I don't use it with floro.
  15. I have heard some bad things about leaving cars at Rymers, not so much with Buck .
  16. Great read Al. I have just gotten to know this river the past 3 years or so. I love how natural the upper Jacks looks without any resorts or all that many people. It's a shame that the fishing has declined, maybe the 1-fish, 18" limit will help. I used to fish the Salt often and saw the rise and fall in cycles due to weather, flooding, and overfishing/ poachers. A few of the local, and some imports would destroy the fish, just for an easy fry. The only thing that helped was local catch and release guys and the local game warden who was a big fan of the fishery keeping an eye on it. I know poaching still happens there and on all streams and we owe it to them to protect all we can. Take pics of any poachers and the fish they have on stringers, get to know the wardens, prosecuting attorney, and park rangers. I don't know where the illegal roads are down there. I have seen a few that go to the river and have parking lots but no names that I know of, same ones? Boy scout camp and ebb and flow spring roads come to mind. Maybe the wilderness aspect of the river will help protect it. Much like Jam up cave. If it was easy to get to it would be destroyed. The 4 wheelers and trucks on gravel bars with the beer keg campers are probably the biggest issue but should be the easiest to catch. I Love topwater fishing but have yet to draw a strike there yet. I seem to only get bit on small pastics around deep wood. but I haven't tried it as much as I should. The clarity seems to be right for topwaters.
  17. May sound odd. But I would like to see one. I saw a few water snakes on our float in May. The only possible Cottonmouth was while I was on the bank. I had walked by the fallen small tree in a side channel a couple times already when I stopped to listen to my wife. Just then I heard a light rustling sound and say a black colored snake slip into the water. I didn't see its head but the body had some mass to it. I had walked within 3' of that tree several times that day. My neighbor lady ( down there ) has had a couple rattlers and several copperheads in her yard. Our brushy place is probably their home.
  18. Thanks Al. I would avoid the river but its my only chance at a 4 day weekend . We might get a chance to do some fishing while the party crowd is still sleeping. Maybe even find a topwater bite. That is one good thing about the upper jacks. The rental places tend to leave it alone due to the dragging. When we bought our place we wanted it to be near an Ozark stream with some solitude. Most of what I have seen there are families and college kids swimming and picnicking near Blue Spring and Buck Hollow. Judging by the beer cans and taco bell wrappers the river dorks do come out sometime.
  19. We are planning to be working and playing at our property during the Labor Day weekend. Might do a little fishing too, How are the crowds and party people in that area?
  20. Where are you staying? There are some good places to fish up and down the river. Twin rivers area, Eminence, Alley springs area, etc
  21. Slip bobber method, just keep raising the knot until it lays on its side......
  22. I used to hit the pad fields up on pool 19 as well as some other small lakes. I would have a lot of blow ups with very few hook ups on frogs and such. I started throwing a 4" tube with a 5/16 or 1/2 oz weight. Smoke purple flake with a dyed chart, tail seemed to look like a bluegill. You can reel it fast as well as drop it between the pads.
  23. Wrench, that shallow pattern sounds like what Dave Lefebre did in the FLW event a few years ago in the fall. I think it was the one Dion Hibdon won.
