  1. A pass is not needed for places that don't have a park, like 12 Bridge, Ventris, Monte-Ne, 412 Access, Big Clifty......etc
  2. Looks like another good rain possibility in about four to five days. Need to get it down to below 1127 fast.
  3. The corps should have opened the gates by Saturday morning. They don't take advantage of the more accurate weather forecasting these days. The lake level was already 1124. So what if they lowered it to 1120.4 and it didn't rain much? That's where it should have been anyway. Corps was asleep, feckless, or whatever in my opinion. They used to do better 20 years ago than they do now. It's the same story as the last big flood, unprepared. If we have a 100 year event it will probably top the dam and wash out, due to unpreparedness. If there is major damage below the dam I would not mind seeing a court martial of the powers in charge. It is not much different than running a ship aground the way I see it.
  4. Top of dam roadway is 1142.
  5. I think we have already seen record levels for December earlier this month. I cannot recall much over 1120 in winter.

    Bluegill

I saw a bluegill once at the Lakeview dock on BSL that must have easily been over two pounds. It would come up to eat dying minnows the dock employees would toss in from time to time. I am positive it was a bluegill.

    Bluegill

Keeping the population in check allows the survivors to become larger due to less competition for food. If the above is true the bluegill should be relatively large. I think they are overpopulated in Beaver.

    Bluegill

What is the biggest bluegill you have seen from Beaver? Biggest I have seen is about a pound.
  9. Probably holding it for generation sales during periods of peak electricity demand during cold spells. Usually we don't get much precip late Dec to early March.
  10. isn't it true if you catch a large striper on light line, the longer struggle will many times kill it? Not good for C&R, but if it's going to be eaten, no problem.
  11. Notropis, What does my tiny fish look like to you?
  12. I think it is an Ozark Minnow. If I ever catch another (creek flooded last week, don't see any now) I will get a better picture.
  13. I netted this minnow out of the small creek that runs through our land. They seem to eat algae off of rocks on the bottom, and will flash brightly when they turn sideways to feed. They also seem to hide under rocks. About 2 to 3 inches long, and travel in small schools. Any ideas?
  14. A dangerous flood is now forming on the Upper White in the Beaver Lake watershed.
  15. No posts from Feathers and Fins either in over three weeks.
  16. River is up about 1.5 to two feet and is extremely muddy. A new mudline will form in the upper reaches of the lake.
  17. It's so bad I have quit fishing except for a couple of local farm ponds. Too much muddy, high water this year most everywhere. Even the stream fish don't seem to be around now. I guess they washed way downstream.
  18. Beaver is at a record breaking high level for this date.
  19. The ramp is steep enough as far as I know. I think it is very heavily fished by locals living around it.
  20. This is the longest sustained high water that I remember since the lake was built. In the record high water year of 2011, by July 10, it had dropped to just under 1127. Level is 1129.95 now. The seven day forecast is dry and sunny. The Corps desperately needs to let Bull Shoals drop in case of more rain. A disaster would be for all three lakes to be full and then have flooding in the Beaver headwaters. Table Rock can hold seven more feet at this time, although the political climate is against high water on TR for some reason.
  21. I made my own removable clamps out of 3/16 x 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 x 1 inch aluminum C channel. They hold heavy duty Driftmaster rod holders.
  22. Not open very much if any of last hour's data. But, the discharge has increased a bit. If the gates are totally closed I bet some waves are topping them.
  23. Up river from Sequoyah
  24. I think if they do not open the gates, they will be overtopped by this afternoon. Inflow now is over four times the maximum generation release. White river is just now cresting at Wyman, and War Eagle is yet to crest.
  25. The upper white at Elkins is out of the banks in places and very muddy and debris laden. This should definitely push Beaver over the flood pool and force opening of the gates again.
