The engineer in Quebec tied a sufficient amount of handbrakes. It has been discovered in the investigation they performed. What happened is that he was unable to perform a proper brake release test to see if the train would roll. Eventually, the air bled off of the cars and it went rolling into town. A conductor now ties all hand brakes and stays out bye the train while the engineer in the cab does the brake test to ensure it doesn't roll. There are many reasons there should be two men on the train at all times. I am a conductor, I know what goes on. There have been several times things could have gone wrong if there weren't two sets of eyes, two brains, and two mouths in that train. What if the engineer is running solo and has a heart attack, becomes unconscious, chokes on food, or whatnot? If there is another human in that cab, the chances of his survival are greatly increased. If he is alone, the dispatcher would not know anything of what is happening and probably won't for another 30 minutes to an hour. By then, he is more than likely dead while the train is running by itself. I have grown up in a railroad family and I now work on the railroad. It is common sense to have more than one qualified person on each train at all times. There is too much at risk. If you believe otherwise, then come with me to work for a week and witness everything that could go wrong on a 10,000+ pound crude oil, or any train in that matter, running down the rails.

Hello All, There has been a recent proposal to just have one person, the engineer, on each train. Big business is trying to cut out the conductor. This proposal puts our families, waterways, lands, and everyone we know at risk. I am posting this because I think it's a big deal and I personally don't want to take a chance of a 10,000 ton crude oil train derailing and blowing the whole area to smitherines. Also, The tragic accident in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, Canada could have been avoided if two people were working on this train. Two crew members are IMPERATIVE for safe train operation; 47 lives were lost because of corporate greed. That's why I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, which says: "HR 3040 mandates two person freight train crews." I'm not a newbie by any means, lol, I've been fishing that area for many years now. Just the way he worded it confused me a bit, so I was trying to clarify it. I have an idea of what he is talking about, just trying to make sure. Sometimes I get confused easily.

Dutch all of the roads, ramps, and parking lots are clear of ice and snow. You can access everything. Wayne, I walked through the woods to get to the wall. There is a pretty clear cut path leading to it as it seems many people have also been walking it. Where is this gully at that you speak of? Which parking lot? I'm thinking you are talking about the highway side, but want to make sure.

Decided to hit up the dam last night around 11pm. Right when I got there, they shut the water off, was pretty bummed out. I started out on the generator side. You still have to walk quite a ways through the woods to get there due to the water level. I caught a small trout and that was it, no bites or anything for about an hour and a half. Decided to head down to the River Run boat ramp. Fished there for 30 minutes or so, nothing. Figured I would head over to the other side and fish the old dock stairs. Stayed there about 45 minutes with no luck at all. Finally ended the night on the parking lot side of the dam. Walked quite a ways down, spent about an hour and a half with no luck. Used a purple and chart RC stick pretty much all night. Was taking it nice and slow. There was just no action at all last night on my line nor visible in the water. Was a rough night. I called it around 3 am and headed home. Hopefully it will start to pick up here very soon, I'm chompin' at the bits to get a good mess of walleye.
