That's about 3 mins from my house. I love that place. Well.. When there's not a bunch of drunk idiots down there. Glad you got in on some goggle eye action.

You can check with hooten town if you are wanting to float the upper river. Not sure on prices but they should be able to take care of ya. Or if you go on one of my days off I could possibly help you out. Pm me.

Well... I put in at 7 am with a cold wind and fog on the water. The new canoe floated like a dream, and that's about the best news I got. I threw everything in the tackle box. Tubes, jigs, crankbaits, that Ned thing, stickbait, spinnerbait, pretty much you name it I tried it. I had a total of 5 hits and no boated fish. Crappie showed no love at all. I took my friend Brent with me and he caught a baby smallmouth and a sunfish on a chartruese and red crappie tube. I didn't see any fish swimming at all. No minnows no nothing. It was still nice to be on the water. Saw a few bald eagles. I'm gonna give it a few weeks before the next trip. Just not the time yet.

I bought a new to me canoe over the winter and plan to float from Delaware to shelvin tomorrow. Guess I'll have to learn the river all over again since the flood changed everything. Anybody been doing any fishing in this area? Any good or bad reports would be appreciated. I have a game plan for crappie, but hope I can find them smallies. I will post a full report when I get back tomorrow. Thanks mofloatjunkie

Both the bass I caught appeared to be fat and very full of eggs.

After my failed attempt to catch a trout at the dam I decided to drive down by Indian point and make a few casts. I started off throwing a spoon around the docks with no luck. Switched to a brown and orange colored wiggle wart and casted along some chunk rock in a small cove. First cast I caught a 19 incher that had a very fat belly. 10 minutes later I caught a 17 incher casting at the same spot. Then it was over. Not another bite. I'm super stoked that a caught two keepers in the little time I had. Can't wait to get out there again soon.

Was wondering if any body's catching any trout around empire. Thought about tight lining some powerbait and trying to get dinner. Any info is appreciated.

I have been invited to go on a 3 night float on the lower end of this river the first week of June and was wondering if anybody has any info. I have never been to that part of the country. Thanks in advance.

I just might have to track down a yak and try my hand at this. Still wish I could use my canoe...

If you ditch your family thanksgiving dinner to go floating ...

My brother and I have been catching a lot of nice bass below the dam in the late afternoon all the way to the middle of the night. Been using twin tail grubs, Ned rigs, and square bill crankbaits. The bass seem to be hitting in real shallow water just right before you finish a cast. All fish we have caught the last couple weeks have been fat, healthy, and put up a great fight. We catch and release as always. If any fellow members are down there and see a red Silverado be sure and say howdy. I'd be glad to chat and trade stories and lures. Tight lines boys.

Nice whites. I caught the crap out of them this year all the way up to Delaware. Almost every float trip. Guess they are refugees of the flood.

Nice fish. I just got back from fishing under the dam and caught some nice bass and my first walleye. I agree the bass seem to be bigger this year.

Glad you had a good time and got on the fish. You catch any crappie?

Nice fish and pics. Looks like the spinnerbait-buzz bait bite is on!!! Where did you float?

I would definitely buy some!!

Thanks for the report. I've never floated that section of the river before. Pics are awesome!! -
yeah you definitely have watch out for those James river gators. They are brutal.

Nice report. My brother caught a lost white a couple weeks ago as well. I second flysmallie where did you put in?

I thought I was hung up at first. But when he took off and headed for the bottom I knew it was a cat. Was a great fight on a light action rod!!

put in at shelvin rock like usual. The weather was beautiful and the river is still flowing very well. I was fishing the big still spot past the first riffle and hooked a big cat on the ned rig. That was a fight I will never forget. It took me a good ten minutes to get him in. The usual spots I have been catching bass were not productive. I had to try and find deep water to catch the bigger ones. Only caught a handful of goggle eye, the bite on those fish has really slowed down. Bitsy tubes worked the best, dark green with chartruese on the end. I fished the z man worms for the first time on the Ned heads, they produced but imo no better than using any other worm cut in half. Cranks worked too, bright colors ran real fast. No crappie this time. Hope to get in a few more trips before the weather gets cold. All fish were released. All in all a great end to my vacation.
