  1. Thanks J-Doc I appreciate your reply! This is why I like reading this forum so much as there are SOOO many nice people helping others. A rare thing in today's whats in for me society. Another question is my wife and I are coming down from KC over the Easter weekend. We are starting the quest of looking for our retirement home. What area and resorts would be good to stay at if you wanted to target stripers. I will be bringing a boat so I would want to rent a dock slip and I have never fished the lake before. If anybody ever gets up to the KC area and would like to fish Clinton Lake for wipers, eyes or crappie let me know I would more than happy to help. Gary Williams
  2. I know lot of you on this board fish a lot of different areas in the country. Can anyone give me some advice on any fishing guides they know of in this area? Looking at fishing for tarpon on spinning tackle, any help would be appreciated. Gary Williams
  3. Here are a couple of wipers caught last year at Clinton Lake in KS, a 27.5 and a 26. PB is a 28 but did not have a picture of that one. Caught in the spring as they are nice and fat. Hard lake to figure out and it gets hammered on the weekends.
  4. Clinton lake has 2 sections one that has little timber and one that is flooded timber. They both hold large schools of wipers so when we fish the tree flats or channel swings in the trees you cannot let them run as you would in open water. I appreciate everyones comments and suggestions and cannot wait until tonight to give them a try. I do not have any popping corks but I think I can make one out of the biggest pop r topwater lure by taking the back hook off and adding a leader onto it and then tying a jig on. I will keep the front hooks on just in case. Gary
  5. On the shinne hinee's do they use standard hooks with those? I have had the wipers break treble hooks snap rings etc. so I wondered how a small crappie hook would hold up? Gary
  6. Hello all, I have been reading your posts for years and have learned a lot of great techniques. I live in the KC area and have a local lake called lake Clinton in Lawrence KS that I fish and have been catching wipers on a pretty regular basis. My question is I have very little luck when the they are busting shad on the surface. I have tried topwater, rattle traps, jigs, shallow running crankbaits, fast retrieve, slow, stop and go and let it free fall. Its frustrating to see them all around the boat boiling the water and you are throwing everything you have in the boat with little success. I think I would have better success by tying hooks all over me and jumping in the water. So my question is what techniques do you guys use to catch fish when they surfacing? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Gary Williams
  7. Podium, Nice fish, I fish Clinton on a regular basis since I live 20 minutes away. I have started to target them but still have not figured them out much, its still hit and miss. They say Webster has some real big ones up to 21 lbs. I have caught them at Pomona but not as regular. Good Luck and hope to see you at Clinton sometime. Zeepo
