  1. Thank you all for the input. I hired a guide for Saturday and will try the shore banks I will definitely get what TRL has to offer!
  2. ok thanks it looks awesome. i'll let you know.
  3. If you are talking about the Viney Creek public use area at the end of Viney Road is 45 mile drive I will give that a try but prefer closer. I am on Green Mountain Drive near coopers creek am here with wife and might have to be back on moments notice. Any other suggestions? Oh, I thought I mentioned just about any warm water fish i.e. bass, panfish, crappie, walleye, perch, sunfish.
  4. I am visiting Branson and am boatless. I have shore fished Taneycomo for trout and am wondering if there are there any goods spots to shore fish TRL near Table Rock Dam north and south within reasonable drive? Thank you
  5. I have a boat now and table rock or bull shoals is possible. My guide says table rock is in transition and is turning over. I read from your forum that bull Shoals is about the same. I am getting tired of fishing for trout in Taneycomo. Any ideas? I think I will just go out on table rock and look for them that is why they call it fishing.
  6. Hi, I am here in Branson near Bull Shoals and am boatless. Are there any good places to fish from shore this time of year? We shore fish Walleye this time of year in MI and use cranks or jigs with a Mr. Twister. That the right way to target them? Thank you,
  7. Ok thanks. Any other ideas?
  8. Hi, I am here in Branson near Bull Shoals and am boatless. Lance Valentine Mr. Walleye 101 has stories of fishing Bull Shoals for Walleye. Are there any good places to fish from shore this time of year? We shore fish Walleye this time of year in MI and use cranks or jigs with a Mr. Twister. That the right way to target them? Thank you.
  9. I should know that, right? Now I am not being a smart @$$, I really don't know much about trout, or salmon for that matter, so I am reciting what I think I know.1. Steelhead are rainbow trout that live in oceans or big bodies of fresh water and spawn yearly in rivers they were born, 2. Rainbow trout live in river or stream year round, 3. Rainbow trout are stocked in Taneycomo during summer months, and 4. Big Brown trout are most likely fall catch in Taneycomo. That's not an awful lot of knowledge and you could fit my trout knowledge into a thimble. Just saying... hope to catch some trout and this forum's members are really helping me get up to speed! Thanks again
  10. Oops, ok I will spin one of my reels with 2 lb. flouro best to have everything in my arsenal. BTW I will be slipping my boat at your marina I spoke to someone (Darrel?) in your office yesterday. Considering hiring a guide for one day too but with the help on this forum... maybe not! Thank again.
  11. Yeah, I really like that setup. I like egg sinkers too but split shot is fine. When fishing for spawning lake trout in river holes last fall we used the same setup but with octopus hook, egg loop not, and salmon skein. What weight do you recommend for the egg sinker or split shot? One last question. I will be there first two weeks of October and what are my chances for steelhead?
  12. I mentioned the Yucatan knot in a previous post. Here is a YouTube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY4Nr21sYlA. The author says do 7 turns and that works fine when tying 30 lb. mono to 20 lb. braid. Use 20 turns for lighter line which works great and is a thing of beauty you can't quit admiring.
  13. I always use a leader and I use a Yucatan knot to tie fluoro to braid and it never comes untied or breaks. I have had so much fun horsing in absolute hogs and then just love to spend a moment admiring those knots. As for line my favorite combo is Power Pro 20 with 14 lb. flouro leader for big fish, 6 lb. braid with same 14 lb. leader for pan fish but I also use the same 6 lb. braid when fishing for Walleye as my third rod and have absolutely no problem with over 20" Walleye and even bass, drag set appropriately. Sounds like I can even use my 6/20 Power Pro in answer to my original question. Casting not much of an issue for me because usually I troll or jig and when I cast I use a 3 or 4 oz. weight. BUT I gather the light weights I will be casting from my boat for trout will be a little different then the channel shore fishing I do when I am fishing from shore. Thanks for the info I will not buy 2 or 4 lb. line and will not rewind one of my reels.
  14. I searched the forum for this answer and couldn't find it. I will trout fishing Taneycomo from a boat with bait caster and spinning rods. I will not use fly instead will fish with floats. Most advice I see is to use light line 2-4 lbs. small weights and small hooks. What type of line should be used, braid or mono? Can I use my 6 lb. braid? I think the diameter of braid is less than mono I think that braid floats too. Or does it not matter? I won't even ask about how much weight or what size hook. Obviously I don't trout fish much.
  15. I will be on your lakes 2 weeks in Oct and will fish with your local bait!
  16. Sounds like do them both is the way to go! I want to trout fish plus they are yummy and I see lots of fish dinners in my future. Sooooo... I have to figure out how to fly fish (trout fish?) lots of fun. I am on it I am going to have fun at Bass Pro Shop too! Thanks for the help and please continue replying I am checking daily I also work a lot but I like to be prepared.
  17. I checked that out sounds like what I am accustomed to. Any votes for Taneycomo?
  18. I am either 2.7 miles from Lily's Landing on Taneycomo or 7.7 miles from State Park Marina from Sep 29 to Oct 11. I am bringing my 16' Lund ready to fish and can slip the boat at either marina. I am a Walleye, Perch,( mostly) fisherman on the Great Lakes from Michigan I have drift fished from shore once on a river for Lake Trout did quite well only with help from a local forum member who actually met me to give bait (skein made from salmon eggs and borax soap) plus a local who had three words for me "lengthen your leader." I am not a trout fisherman I learn fast though. Myrtle Beach, May this year, SLAMMED fish out of the surf with the help of local bait shop owner! I troll bottom bouncers with crawler harnesses, bottom jig, slip bobber hooks, shore or surf fish, with worms, minnows, maggots, leaches, and soft plastics when jigging. Not much casting raps, bombers, etc. I have never fly fished. I only got the fishing bug 18 months ago but man did I get the bug I am over age 50! (ok go ahead and make your jokes ). Ok, lot to ask but knowing the little bit I told you all, what are the opinions which lake to fish? Table Rock seems I am accustomed to but doesn't seem to have Perch and Walleye (but what do I know correct me if I am wrong). Taneycomo seems like a lot of fun and good eats but I am a green newbie. Plus the warnings about Taneycomo when damns are open or they are generating electricity and whatever, levels up, levels down, don't throw anchors, etc. don't scare me but not knowing could lead me to trouble and perhaps I should stick to Table Rock? I am sure this forum holds a lot of answers thought I could first narrow it down a bit then start my research. I won't be in your area after this and I am not asking you to tell me your honey hole or secrets, I assume this forum has a PM section. Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided this green newbie! FISH ON!
