  1. Merry Christmas and wish I was down to bull shoals=Taney for the Happy New Year.
  2. I read some reviews on the canon today and came to that same conclusion. Thanks for the reply.
  3. I have a gift cert to dicks sporting goods and I have been thinking about getting a digital camera. I am a rookie interested in taking outdoor shots, so any opinions about the Nikon 10 mega D40X w 18 to 55 mm lens for 800 bucks, or the canon powershot S51S 8 megapixel for around 450 bucks. Any insight would be appreciated if you have one of these cameras.
  4. I am a taxidermist too. And as a general rule we tend to drink more, catch more, shoot straiter, and tell taller tales and write more words on the post.
  5. Im looking to buy a new fish locater for around 200 bucks or so. Its been awhile since ive had one so I would call myself a novice when it comes to using them. I just want something that gets the most bang for the buck so if you have any opinion about what models you like best let me know .
  6. Sorry i havnt visited this post for awhile. I personally know several hand fisherman and see the results of a few that I dont know. My problem is I have personally seen, or seen photos of catchs of guys holding up 5 or 6 flatheads all weighing between 40 and 60 lbs. I just think its a waste. Catch and release is a good idea but i have never heard of a hand fisherman releasing anything. I cant imagine the DOC thinking that taking big fish while they are nesting is a good idea, but i havnt really heard that much opposition or opinion about it from the DOC. I havnt visited their website latey though either. I also havnt heard any results from last years open season experiment or whatever it was suppose to be. So if anyone knows where I can get some more info about it let me know. Maybe legalizing and regulating it would be the way to go to keep more of the giants in the water. I guess we will see one way or the other.
  7. I just emailed my rep and told him to vote no on hand fishing. Hope everyone will take time and do the same, even those who disagree I guess. Hey, its a free country. Floating down the mighty Grand River today and catch some cats on Rod and Reel. Everyone have a nice day.
  8. That how I got mine yesterday. Shoot a turkey, catch a few fish, find a few shrooms. Even if you dont get a turk its great just being out on the river. I usually carry my gun in the case until I need it so it dosnt get wet and not as apt to slide off the canoe into the water.
  9. I would run it just like you are running this one. You could just have a catagorie for the major topics like deer, turkey, upland game, waterfowl, and general discussion, and a catagory for archery and then do what you do best. Which is have a kick butt web site.
  10. I called in a nice gobbler within 5 yards but could not shoot cause he was behind some thick brush. So I settled for a jake a little later. But the good news was I caught two 19 1/2 inch walleye on my way home which really made my day. This is in north mo. I saw 20 gobblers in this one field runnin 6 to 8 in a bunch. It was a good day. Didnt find any mushrooms though.
  11. I think if we would get a little rain they would start popping. Thats up north.
  12. I forgot to tell you I fish alot of farm ponds too. Caught a few crappie today as a matter of fact. And I am from Gallatin area. I like to hit the lakes around Jamesport and Poosey also. Ive fished Smithville some but havnt had the best of luck there. Catch you guys later.
  13. Hello fellow fisherman. Im from nw mo north of K.C. I only get down your way a couple times a year but sure enjoy reading this board. I fish all the local lakes and rivers, mainly the Grand and Lake Viking, near my home. If I could get loose Id come down more often and explore the rivers down there. Keep up the chit chat, it might lure me down to your neck of the wood.
  14. I would start going right now as often as I could. Remember to post back.
  15. I would only have a chance if conditions were not great and I lucked into a couple. I see where 27 pounds were caught in one day in the Theodosia Open last year. I doubt if that was luck. Ill have to rig a livewell up on my jonboat and come down and have some fun.
  16. This sounds like a tourney that I could enter and have a chance. Not being sarcastic here, just truthful. Might have to check it out next year.
  17. The ice on the ponds is around four inchs thick so got to do a little ice fishing yesterday and today. Caught a total of six fish in a couple hours fishing. It was fun while it lasted as temps are on the rise.
  18. I am personally against it. If it was strictly a catch and release situation I could maybe go along with it. But when I see or hear of guys taking several super quality fish and keeping them, I dont see the point. I spend alot of time rod and reeling and a big cat takes time and effort. Wadeing in and grabbing them when they are most vulnerable dosnt seem like a fair way to catch a trophy, but hey thats just my opinion. I wonder what info the cons. dept came up with after there first legal season in those areas where legal?
  19. Thanks for info Dano. Looks like from 84 bridge to Lake Greeson probably would be best? Im trying to decide between Lil Mo or maybe the Quachita river or maybe even Caddo. Lots of choices.
  20. I get to spend a day and a half around Hot Springs Ark. while my wife is doing business. Therefore Im going to spend my time on a small mouth river or stream in the area and probably camp for the night. So my question is just going to be which one. Does anybody have any good ideas? I dont mind driving an hour to get the right spot.
