This striper was caught eating a wiggle wart. Must have learned it from his hybrid buddy. Hehe so I took him out of the lake to ensure he didn't teach others. Thanks for sharing Bill. I hope that all is for the best of the lake, as I love catching all the species mentioned.

Great information. Never been to TR but I figure down here on Beaver it will work just as well. With the muddy water do you think I should hold off on the rig? Or try and find the green water is another options reckon.
-
No offense taken Jeb. I was truly ignorant to that information until my buddy recently told me. I will be more mindful in the future. As much as I have read about bass fishing lately, I haven't run across a single article about that. Not an excuse, but something more people probably need to know.
-
Yep. All in the muddy water. And in one very small area and a particular retrieve. The other fish were quite pale, almost to where I couldn't tell if it was a K or LM. The smallie I'm pretty sure was one I graphed but didn't catch until my second pass. Came back around and threw on his head and he bit first time. Wish I would have had more than a couple hours that day. Felt like I was on to something.

23lbs is impressive, some people really know their stuff. I went out Thursday morning for a couple hours. Caught a few bass, the best being an 18" smallie. Also got a 12-13lb striper which went home with me. Saturday I tried to repeat that and got seriously humbled. The weather was obviously different, but still stunk to have such a different day.

Besides running as Trump's VP? I'd buy a forest, yes an entire forest. With a trout stream running through it. Then I'd buy a tropical island, with a huge freshwater lake full of peacock bass. Then I'd buy a mountain with a castle on the side of it. I'd need help running all the property. So I'd have to figure out a way to not get divorced while staffing my chalets, cabanas, and castles with Victoria's Secret Angels.

I appreciate the insight fellas. The rain this weekend kept me off the water. I'll be up again, before the cigar boat hatch, and I'll hopefully have better reports.

Well so far, not so good. Fished quite a bit yesterday in Linn Creek and didn't do well at all. I'm sure most of it is me, but I do wonder if the bite is slow for others too? I threw the a-rig, a jig, and crankbaits. Water temp was 48. Water was definitely muddy.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. I don't own an A rig nor an adequate rod and reel for it. Looks like I'll be going to Cabelas tomorrow to get one! I hope to have good news to report this weekend.
-
Thank you both! I have my jerkbait and crank stuff ready to go. I'm not the best at a jig, but have them. I need to learn the A rig better too. Any suggestions on where to start there? There's a few too many options to choose from!

Hello guys, I'm not on this forum a bunch as I fish Beaver lake mostly. But, tis the season to see the in-laws for the weekend and therefore I'm going to pull the Ranger up there. I'll be staying near Linn Creek MM29 but can trailer anywhere within reason. Only fished LOZ one other time out of my boat and that was all done in the LOZ state park area. Looking for any general tips on bass fishing LOZ this time of year and with what the experience has been lately for those who have been out. I'll be happy to report how I do, assuming the rain isn't too bad to go. I appreciate any direction ya'll can provide.

Good advice from Champ. This is how I've been catching fish the last two weeks with somewhat consistent results. Having a crank, Spinnerbait, and topwater on the deck and switching through until you find what the fish want has been key. And it changes from spot to spot sometimes. As far as high end electronics: it's helped me learn the lake, and therefore helped me catch more fish.

Put in at Rocky Branch and didn't fish far from ramp. Cloudy and cool all day. Water temps around 70-72. I fished in creek arms mainly. Had a good day but no giants. Half my fish were on topwater and the other half were from Spinnerbait and lipless crankbaits. My bite slowed around 10ish. I couldn't get anything along bluffs. Had to be chunk rock and lay downs.

Oh and one other thing. I bought my boat from Rogers Outdoors and have nothing negative to say about their operation. It has only been since March, so take it for what it's worth.
-
Can't say anything negative about Mercs. However I have a lot of experience running 4 strokes from 50hp to 150hp. Mainly Yamaha and Honda. The main thing I know is that they are quiet and easy to run as well as being fuel efficient. I've had numerous 2 stroke owners ride in the boat and comment own how quiet the motor is. That's important to some, not so much to others. Hope you enjoy what ever you decide.

That's a nice fish. I'm assuming reaction baits given what you described?

Haha I hear that. Wasn't too far back that I was there too. I just looked and it's actually 1,500 yards! I get the clear. Another tip on the topic of pinching pennies. Spool up about half your reel with cheap mono and then tie on your braid or floro. If you aren't trolling or striper fishing, you really aren't going to use more than your longest cast plus a little extra for break offs, etc. One spool of braid will go twice as far. Instant savings of about $20.
-
I try and replace mono about every fourth trip. A big spool is so cheap it's worth it. Hook line and sinker has the bass pro stuff. About $10 for 1000 yards. Braid is on a number of my rods and definitely lasts the longest. I often use either mono or floro leaders on the braid. Double uni, 13 wraps on braid side, 5 on floro/mono side. I don't recommend the red box Seagar floro. Bad experiences. Yellow box, Invizx is good. My two cents.

Yep. I doubt those kids care how Beaver lake fishes for a big bass event. The funds going there is what's important to me. Not to mention I'm sure I wasn't the only one that spent $100 bucks on gear at my local bait shops in preparation for the event.

Driving along it keeps up just fine for me. There is a lag if you push the cursor off the screen to look somewhere else, or if you zoom in or out. I can't compare it to other gps units as I do not have much experience with other comparable models.

Fished from 7-1:30. And then 3:30-5. I fished the Everett Big Bass event today. First time doin something like that. I really enjoyed it and hope to do it again next year. I put in at Rocky Branch and fished that area all day. Water temp was around 72. Conditions were calm and sunny once the fog burned off. I had made a decision beforehand to not use any finesse gear and I stuck to that. Reaction baits and topwater. Mainly shad colors. I ended up with about a dozen fish. But I only weighed one. (Which was an ounce shy of a check for the hour) Just couldn't get that kicker fish to be for sure in the money. I saw one though. Darn bass attacked a bluegill at the end of my 7ft rod that could of tapped him on the head. I tried to fool him throughout the day but he must have gotten full. It taught me that fish will hit topwater during the middle of the day with no clouds. Got numerous fish on a prop bait after that. Would love to hear how other people on the forum faired. It was five pounds and some change to win the event I believe.

Not sure what type of input you are looking for. I have two, and love them. I went from a $100 unit to them so needless to say it's a big Improvement. I love the detail on the gps. Being able to see one foot contour lines has changed the way I fish. The detail on the chirp is excellent as well. It's the first time I've been able to drop a bait to a visible fish on screen and catch it. That being said, you ride along with someone who has a 10" Lowrance and it makes you feel a little inadequate. Lol
-
If anyone has a pattern like that Stump, they ain't sharing! Lol I don't blame them either. I think I'm on a decent pattern(not 5 pounders) but it's quite weather dependent I'm afraid.
-
I'm sure someone can help me. So I send my check in to the Children's House, but who do I contact to make sure I'm registered before the day of?
-
Ooh I like what I hear nice job and thanks for the report.
