I should add, there was definitely some bass chasing shad and busting the surface, not only in coves but also main lake. But, none of the fish I caught on top came from them. They must have been after something specific that i didn't have, because casts to the boils didn't lead to any hits.

Went out of PC this morning looking for bass. We never went more than a few miles from the ramp, but also never fished in PC itself. Water temp was around 80 when we started. It was nice and cloudy for the first couple hours. The bite wasn't red hot, but for not having a lot of time on the water this summer, I was pleased. I landed 7or 8 bass. A good mix between LM, SM, and Ks. My buddy got a couple too. Topwater worked until the sun came out. The best fish was caught on top. The rest of the fish came on a drop shot using a robo worm. I never caught anything "offshore" however I did catch most of them in probably 15ft of water. My buddy got his best bass on a swim jig over standing timber on a point. I got off the water probably 2 hrs. later than a I needed too. The fishing got real tough. Could have been me losing concentration too. My ears were still ringing from way too long of a night at the Electric Cowboy. Hence the awesome bed head.

We'll have it covered. Going out of PC in 20 minutes. Plan on staying close first thing and working it hard this morning. Will update too.

Thanks for the report. I'm going in the morning. Hope to have a decent report.

Well that digressed quickly. Lol

I'd love to Jason. I have yet to go on Grand.

I went down on Saturday morning fi watch the final 20 anglers duke it out on Ouachita. I took my own Ranger since I couldn't just watch em the while day. You would think that finding a pro on a 40,000 acre lake would be tough, but as luck would have it we launched right where Ramie Colson Jr. was fishing. I was surprised at how far back people were staying, but we followed suit and watched from afar. Too far away to pick up any nuances. Ended up watching a few more pros, but it got monotonous after a bit. These guys were fishing for 4-5 bites after they got a few smaller keepers in the boat. We did watch Blaylock fish offshore structure and that was interesting since you had no idea what he was fishing. Probably a brush pile. Sunday morning the FLW greeted spectators with coffee and donuts while they conducted interviews. It was neat to the 10 pros up close and personal while they prepared for the day. Not one boat had rods out on the deck that were attached to baits. Not by coincidence I'm sure. I had the opportunity to ride along for a quick drive with pro James Watson out of Springfield. He wasn't in the tournament but was there on behalf of Mercury. We hit 70mph and I think we passed a pro fishing but I was too busy holding on for dear life. The convention was really fun. Much better than Beaver Lake's tournament expo of course. I got to talk with Matt Arey for quite some time. Having won the last two years, I picked his brain a little and he was incredibly gracious and genuine. A really good guy from what I could tell. All in all it was a great event. I'd do it again, it was worth the drive time in my opinion. I have some better photos on my "real" camera, but included are some snapshots from the weekend.

Nice fish. A jumping and hard fighting fish is definitely what most fisherman are after, "non sport fish" that it is. A buddy of mine caught one recently on a crankbait, they must be feeding on the shad pretty good.

Went out of PC and drove about 12 miles before I started fishing. (Felt like some scenery. I haven't fished but once in the last month.) I was fishing for bass along shorelines. Nothing offshore. Water temp was 88 or so. I wound up with 2 Ks and 2 LM from finesse tactics. They wanted it retrieved real slow. I also felt like the presentation had to fall at just the right rate. I didn't get bit when I went to a heavier weight. Tough fishing but I was happy to not get skunked. Also saw a fawn with it's spots still on. Always fun to watch. I was back to the ramp by dark.

I haven't posted due to lack of time on Beaver. That will change soon. But, archery season is soon to come.... I have caught a few fish a little farther south to keep me somewhat satiated. As far say the negativity, let's all just hold hands and sing kumbaya.

I guess when I see those guys throwing 6xd cranks and such I figured they aren't pulling them off into open water, but keeping them right on the bottom.

So when you all speak of ledges, are you talking flat rocks that then drop off abruptly? I was picturing more of steep transition but not vertical. It seems that when I've watched videos on ledge fishing it's usually only 4-5ft steep transitions. Am I misunderstanding?

I'm glad you posted this question, I too have been curious about it. You see the FLW guys talk over and over about it. I hope someone shares some knowledge on the topic and how it pertains to Beaver.

This past Sunday I did she the Boston Whaler sitting in the no wake zone of PC. This was around 2 or 3 I'd guess. He was just watching people go in and out. When we went to trailer(around 7) there was a Sheriff SUV watching people load up. I didn't see any one get busted. I guess that's me saying that there was a presence on what was a definitely high traffic day.

Yep, was out last night and had similar fishing success it sounds like. Caught some nice bass on spooks and Keitechs. Also had the obligatory pontoon boat troll by half throttle, right over the hump I was fishing. He waved and smiled, clueless to what he had just done. He had a straight line course to the barn and wasn't going to move off it. Ugh

My Dad and I rescued a couple goobers years ago on a river back home. It was 20 FEET above normal! Forty foot sycamores were rolling down the river. They were pinned in the tree tops on the edge of the current. Thanks to a solid jet boat and us risking our own lives, they survived. Found out later their dad was the one who put them in a 12 foot jon boat and sent them on their merry way. We wanted to smack him! None of them were wearing life jackets, but two out of the three had them in the boat. Can't fix stupid. But time to time you can save them.

I went out for a little over an hour tonight, and then got chased off the water due to a squall. Nothing positive to report. Just a few head shakes from bass on a trick worm. I marked fish but couldn't fool them. I didn't see any debris around Prairie Creek area.

I think the stripers are eating the turkeys. Seriously though, thanks for the the report!

Without getting into an essay, my two cents and it pertains to something I saw recently: I watched Major League Fishing this weekend and it was amazing to watch 10 of arguably the most experienced bass fisherman around take over 90 minutes to catch a bass. Hours in and half of the fisherman hadn't caught a fish still. By the end of the day there were still a few with just two or three small fish. So then you take Joe average fisherman that fishes a tough lake like Beaver only a few times a month, and it's easy to see there are other issues than over fishing.

I think we can all rant a little, but I think if we don't try and call people on the unsafe measures, the ranting is useless indeed. Thanks for the info. Instead of just complaining, I'll be sure to notify the authorities in the future. Only time will yell if it pays off

Thanks. I grew up tying the Albright for fly fishing, and this is very similar.

What knot do you like with the braid to floro Trophy? I use the Uni but always open to other ideas.

This could be dated information, but my best luck last week with the shaky head was on steep banks. Not sloping chunk rock, but water that went to 12 plus feet within yards of the shore. Good luck.

"No Boating Within 100 Feet - It's the Law" signs on docks
M_Taylor replied to JohnF52's topic in Beaver Lake
I just wish the enforcement was there on the laws at hand already. I don't believe the creation of more regulation stops problems as a whole. Putting in at PC the other day as a wake boat came up to the dock to pick up a buddy. They were cussing and being loud and carrying on, but as soon as they saw a black Sheriffs SUV that was parked there, they all quieted down and stood up straight. I could care less that law was parked there because I had nothing to hide or be afraid of. Now you take that presence out on the lake and people would get the idea that they can't be doing blatant stupid stuff. I'm not naive enough to think people still won't be stupid, but some would take note I'm sure.
