As much as I hate rigging in gale force winds, it's working. Really didn't know how yesterday was going to go honestly. Thought I wouldn't get a bite. Boy was I wrong. They where slamming it hard! Got started about 11:30 and fished to about 4. WT was 58 rigging minnows and jigs up the White. Caught them between 3-8 fow. But, most of everything was holding at 6 fow. Stayed pretty busy until about 3:30 when they shut off. Pull off the water with 12 in the kitchen that are being released at Lake Crisco. God Bless... Pics below

Must of been. Did notice a fella on the bank fishing. There was a couple of us rigging in there. I was in the tracker. Holler next time

Got back at it yesterday after taking last week off. Started rigging minnows and jigs about 12:30 and fished to about 4:30. Water temp 51 way up the White. Conditions where what has been working for me every time the past few trips. Shallow coves 3-6 fow, where the wind is blowing hard into it, pushing the shad to the back. Also tried the main river channel along the channel edge once the wind kind of laid down in 10-12 fow. Caught one keeper there and about 10 shorts. Wasn't able to give it much of a try, due to time and needing to get my girls. Caught guessing close to 40 or so shorts alone. It was nuts! There wasn't a time I didn't have a rod in my hand taking a fish off or putting bait on. Ended the day with 9 decent ones, 12-13". Nice forecast for the next several days, hope y'all are able to take advantage of it. God bless!

I've heard that too. Asked a guy back in the summer that moves docks on folks property that don't live here 12 months out of the year. He said yes, just didn't know when yet. Then the other day a fella at work said they are getting it down now and plan to work on it when at 10ft. Which isn't very far away. Here is a pic of Habberton I took on Sunday while out for a bike ride. Guess we won't be dipping any buck brush this Spring again either.

lol! I know! Haven't tango with too many of them this year. With pushing 16ft rods now don't really want to. Only hooked up to a couple so far this year that broke off at the boat. Thanks it's been a fun winter!

Pulled out with six yesterday. Tons of shorts, to the point I quit counting after around 20. Comes down to lake location. Another friend fishing the same method in a different location pulled out a limit. The wind shifting from another direction than what it has been the past several trips could have something to do with it. Seemed scattered at different depths yesterday. Pic below. Best of luck to y'all out there! God bless!

Wouldn't hurt to try it if you are that close. Walk down to the ramp, pitch a minnow or baby shad with a bobber and let it sit for a bit then drag it slowly back towards you letting it sit a little more.

Thanks guys... It's a lot of fun!

Thanks Bill! It's a blast! Best of luck up that direction, it's a different world for me up that way. I turn and go back the other direction when I see clear water.

Got started yesterday about 11 and fished to about 3. Pretty much same conditions as last week. WINDY, but water temp was down to 44-45 up river where I was at. Everything I caught still was in 7-5 fow 3-5 feet down pushing minnows/jigs. Just nuts! Caught a bunch, but once getting to 10 keepers, called it quits. The wind was brutal. God bless and pics below.

Finally got a day to get back on the water. Got started around noon yesterday and fished to about 3. WT hovered around 50 degrees up river in the area where I was at. Water color was stained. Used the wind to my benefit yesterday. Figure move up a creek arm where shad should be in that condition and plus maybe get a little shelter from it. Shad was there in numbers but not much shelter. Found them double minnow rigging in 6-7 fow with baits down 3 and 5 feet. Boated 25 and once I got to 10 good keepers, called it quits. Had enough of the wind. Tangoed with 2 stripers as well but couldn't finish the deal. Each one snapped my minnow rigs at the boat! Guess that's what I get for taking my bigger net out of the boat. Geez!! Been an unusual winter.... Fish pic below.... God Bless and take care.

Yes and jigs tipped with minnows

Thanks, it's a Contour ROAM camera. It's a pretty simple video and photo camera. I use to use it a lot in my mountain bike exploring days.

Had one extra day off work yesterday so made it count. Rigging up river where I was at WT was 44-45. Started out where I went last week and after 2 hours with only one keeper crappie, a cat fish and several dinks I finally listen to that inner voice to "make a move". Pulled up and headed up main river along a flat/channel edge in 12 fow and setting bait 10 feet down. Caught some in 17-20 foot of water 10 feet down around bait clouds but, they where holding along that channel edge better. Caught well over 20 or so but started out there too late to get a mess of good eaters. Ended with 10 keepers with 3 of those being nice 14" fat bottom girls that I released. Awesome weather yesterday! Happy New Year and God bless. Pic below

Thanks.... There is ton of those 7-9 inchers all over the place. With rigging I'm always using straight minnows or jigs tip with minnows. They seem to not spit it out as quick when you got a minnow on there and I'm able to reach out to set hook. If you know what I'm saying?

Never leave fish to find fish...? Got started yesterday about noon. WT 41 degrees up river in the area I was at. I've been for the past several weeks rigging, trying different parts of the river arm and lake. Other coves, main river, further down river, even testing my A.D.D. jig fishing piles that a friend of mine is having great success at. All just to try and find bigger fish. Everywhere I would go was pretty much the same results. Catching 5-10 dinks to one keeper crappie. It's insane! I'm buying extra minnows just for that reason. Yesterday, plan was to go rigging a main river flat I haven't tried yet but, the wind change that. Ended up river where I've been catching them all along before I went on the search. Caught well over 20 and just kept 10. Pushing double minnow rigs and double jig rigs, tip with little minnows. Most of all my fish where caught in 6-9 foot of water 4-6 feet down. Did catch some in 12 fow 8-10 feet down as well, but most in the 6-9 foot range. Funny thing at the end while putting my poles back in their holders and putting minnow rigs away. I was down to my last rod still being in the water and while putting a minnow rig away all of sudden BAM! Rod tip buried in the water, I snatched it and yanked up a another healthy 13" female crappie. Good way to end the day! God bless and Merry Christmas! Pic below.

Good to hook up with you as always Danny! Much more fun to catch them jokers on a bass rod than a crappie rod! HA! Looking forward to the next trip.

Not something I prefer on the end of a crappie rod!

For the method of fishing I'm doing right now, not holding a rod to feel the thumb I prefer to use minnows over jigs. I'm moving real slow at .2-.3mph, so a crappie has a lot of time to look at the bait. Being that they feed by sight and when they suck the bait in and has no taste they'll spit it out. I just have better hook up with a minnow when not having the rod in my hand. I'll use tube jigs, road runner type jig heads, and teasers that I still tip with a minnow in certain water color conditions and to also have a bigger profile bait . This time year I struggle the most. The lake comes hard to fish for one and they tend to move around more makes them hard for me to dial in. I've quit cranking for the year. Just tend to not do as well pulling cranks this time of year. I go for moving out the river arms, move back into coves and fish like you would in the spring. -
South Town Sporting Goods had them last winter. But, they'll eat a crappie minnow too!! LOL!

Hooked into a BIG gar! Sucker had to be as long as my leg and I'm 6ft. I tangoed with it for a few minutes but, when it went under and towards my other lines I wasn't having none of it on a 16 ft crappie rod so, I cut it loose. Another cooler thing that happened as well was I hooked into a bass and as I pulled it to the surface his BIG brother was with it. Pretty cool to see. Ok got started rigging, pushing double rig minnows up river about 11:30. WT was 67-68! Went to the same cove as last week. There's another creek I want to go do, but was expecting wind to eventually pick up and trolling it is a pain in the wind. Pretty much the same results as last week. Abundance amount of shorts and a decent mess of keepers. Basically what I'm doing is moving around looking for small bait clouds and then just holding on to the area until they quit biting and then move in search for another. Was also in all kinds of depths from 8-17 fow, catching them 6-10 feet deep. One things for sure it's going to get good in about a year with all these 9 inchers swimming around. Pics below, take care and God bless.

Thanks, felt kind of weird at first grabbing and unhooking warm fish in cold air.

Burrr! Under dressed I reckon. Got started yesterday rigging about 11:30. WT was 72-73 Went on up in a cove, up river to have shelter from the wind and just work in the front part. Went back and forth in about 10-15 fow pushing double minnow rigs about 8-10 feet down. Gonna need to start buying an extra couple dozen minnows with all these shorts swimming around. It's insane... Their becoming like a pesky fly at a picnic table. Ended with 5 in the box. The keeper size fish were slamming, running, and burying the rods. Reminded me of how stripers would do. Freaked me out everytime! Pics below. The first keeper was caught vertical jigging a stump for a short bit with a custom hand tied jig that a friend of mine from TX sent. Awesome looking jigsI I usually just keep moving this time of year. They could be here, there, or over there! God bless

HA! Yes sir pretty much stay a river rat! What I hear from others this year is that quality is better up your direction but numbers are low. -
Got out from 11-3 yesterday. Water temp 81-84 during that time. Most of everything I caught was in 15 fow around flats in the river. Pretty much again a repeat of last week. 5-8 short fish to one keeper. Their EVERYWHERE!! Deep, shallow, it don't matter! Just crazy when those little dudes hit the crank... Sometime the reel drag will make a snap sound and the rod slings back quick. Dang near knock my rod out of the holder twice. Ended with five in the box. Seeing the forecast. Going to start preparing my rigging junk this week. Also built up several stake beds out of pallets that I need to drop, so going to try and do that as well next trip. Pic below. Fish on and God bless !
