  1. Saw this on the www and thought it was funny and wanted to share. Have a great weekend out there. God bless you and thank you to those that served and do now in our military.
  2. Got out Friday mid day. Went up the river arm and started in the mouth of a creek and pushed towards the back. Caught a couple out front of the creek over 18-20 feet of water about 8 feet down, but the bite got better further in on the edge of a couple of small flats about 12-14 feet of water about 8-10 feet down. They where all suspended out there and I just kept going back and forth over them several times. One pass I catch one or two the next nothing. The bite seemed to do better with a tail wind. Just figured it to be the baits where a little higher and moving faster in the water column. And also maybe boat splash under the bow. I did try a couple passes in shallower water about 6-8 feet of water about 5-6 feet down and caught one smaller male and hooked up to another male that was as long as my hand and forearm, but lost it at the surface. Dang!! Lost a couple more bigger ones that way at the surface as well. One I was just setting the rod down in the holder and it dipped down and caught me off guard and the other was on my front rod and I my foot was still on the trolling motor as pulled her up and I just put too much pressure on the line and fish I reckon. Geez I was using an Arkie double hook rig with a 2 inch Arkie black chartreuse or purple/chartreuse tube jig, and also BPS swimming squirts black/chartreuse with a little red in the tails. All tipped with minnows. Moving about about .5-.8 mph Boated 18-20 I think... I don't I lose count! And just kept six. Going to be off the water the next three weeks. But, once back going to start pulling cranks. Also planning to switch over to using 16 foot rods down the road so if anybody wants some cheap 12 foot rods touch base with me. Here is a pic of some of the fish. God bless and have a good one.
  3. Nice Danny! Good to hear boat is running again and your back to fishing!
  4. Thanks... Yes these where. But a friend that had a limit last weekend still had small eggs??? I seem to do my best catching them in pre or post spawn areas. 15-20 feet of water. I did hear the month of May has got a full moon so some may still spawn then again. I'm Going to try rigging post spawn areas, mouths of coves or where the river channel meets the creek channel next trip. So you may try to give that a shot.
  5. Got out yesterday. I was short on time and looking at the radar. I put in at Hickory Creek and headed north to do a little vertical jig fishing at Edens. Battle the wind and fish brush piles and pole timber in 20-30 feet of water about 12-17 feet down. Caught a lot of shorts again, but did manage 6 good toads. Dark green water and water temp was 67. Bait used where a Bobby Garland Baby Shad, Electric Chicken and Crystal on a green/chartreuse 1/8oz jig head. Only downer is I lost my dag gum hat on they way back to the ramp. So If ya see my Yeti hat it yours! God bless and have great time at there.
  6. Small packs spread all over. I would go through some there, move go through more, move again and catch a couple more. Just a double rod hook up, but was constantly taking a fish off and baiting a hook. I was trying to get out of them
  7. Well what I was hoping to avoid finally happen.... Pushed through a school of whites. I just hate when that happens. Striper tend to run and I could work them away from the other lines, but whites go ape crazy and cause a headache. I just try and do my best and yank them out quick. Report: I was wanting to try one last hoo-rah rigging shallow water (5-8 feet deep) before going back to post spawn areas next trip out. But all we caught where 5 small keeper crappie, a boat full of dink crappie that I quit counting, and maybe 10 or so white bass of various sizes. With all the clusters and laughing at my dad who I had to put to work holding poles I didn't much pay attention. All the crappie I caught where further out about 12-15 feet of water, but like I said mostly all tiny. Move on out to mouths of creeks or main river flats next trip. That's the problem with only fishing once a week. Got to wait a week to see if that works. We did go jig fish shallow lay downs (2-4 feet of water) for a bit, but again all smaller keeper black males. We'll see how it goes next week I reckon. Here's some pics of a couple of whites and a pretty black male crappie. Great weather this weekend. God Bless.

  9. Thanks, landscape picture taking has become kind of a hobby when not fishing or riding a bike. The camera used here is called a contour camera that was used back in my mountain bike racing days. It's like a gopro. You can set it to take pics every 3 seconds or shoot video. I dug it out and mounted it to try and take action pics catching fish. Got these neat shots catching a crappie vertical jigging a brush pile awhile back.
  10. I had a bucket full of minnows and after about two hours, between fish caught, lot of short hits knocking my bait out silly and little ones wiggling themselves off I was down to a handful. Got started about 11:15 yesterday. Water temp was 57-59 in the creeks I went into at. It gets noticeably muddier the further you go up river past 412 bridge. Boated twenty. With 10 being the 12" mark or just over. The rest where either too tiny or hovering the 10" mark. My best result yesterday was spider rigging the same area I've been in for the past several weeks. This time Half the creek was mud the other half was like a pea green color. I caught all my fish further on back right past the mud. The first hour was nuts! Only caught 2 in 2-4 foot of water on up river. Cold snaps gets them out of the mood I guess. Yet to get on a consistent shallow bite pulling those males out with their tuxedo war paint on. It's a weather timing issue right now I think. Here is a pic of some of my catch. no big fat bottom girls but can't complain. Have great time out there and God bless.
  11. Bill, move into bigger creeks, drift minnows along the creek channels . The big females whites are just holding out suspended in open water waiting to courtship. And... If weather has been stable the Black crappie should be on the bank in thick lay downs. Use a thill 1/16oz slip bobber with a 1/16 jig head and BG lights out color baby shad. And dip it in there so not to spook them. Or do what I do and free line it working the jig from top to bottom.
  12. I have it. I used it mostly for the contour map it has, but don't use it now since I have lakemaster and navionics. It's kind of like a social media app. it has a basic contour map where you can mark where you caught fish and see where others have caught fish if their settings aren't private. Also sends you an email of fishing reports (AG&F report mostly) posted for each week.
  13. NICE TOADS!!
  14. Thanks, I totally understand.. Their a finicky fish to figure out. What are you trying? Maybe we all can get you heading in a more confident direction. That's what this forum is for to me anyway and that's why I report to share what I'm doing to see what others are trying..
  15. Can't confirm it again. Being that the two I lost where stripers or not but one pulled line off for a country mile until it came off and the other I got all the way to the boat until it straighten my hook. This one looked longer than the 24-26 inchers I've been able to land. I have some number 2 size octopuses hook rigs tied up. I just don't have faith in them with catching crappie. Seem like I miss bites when I tried to use them. Ok here's report. Had all day yesterday off from work so I got started up river earlier than normal. About 9:30 water temp when I started was 52 and when I quit about 3:30 it was 56. Water color, let's call it dingy. Started out spider rigging. Figured cold night going push them back out. It took me about an hour to zero in on them. But, once I found the area where they where hanging it got pretty busy. Meaning fish flopping in the floor, rods all over the place, hooks needing minnows, it became about like work. Everything was hanging around 15-18 feet of water and about 12 feet down along kind of a sandy rocky 45 degree bank. If that makes since.. I quit spider rigging about noon and went and picked up my dad to see if we could find any black crappie in shallow lay downs along the bank. Started further on up river in a small muddy creek. Caught 10 but they where all just touching 10" or just under. And, that's how the afternoon went. Caught more bream, and little bitty bass than anything Ended up boating 30 crappie and 3 decent whites bass. with 10 crappie being good eaters and the rest being a little too short of being 10" or just over. Either way I toss anything less than 12" back. More effective for me pushing minnows yesterday, but wanted to try and let my dad pull some from the thick shallow stuff. Maybe next week. Bait used. Minnows trolling, arkie shineee hineee silver chartreuse, bobby garland baby shad cajun cricket and lights out dipping lay downs. Be safe and patient out there, lots of boat traffic. Have a Happy Easter. Here's a couple pics. A Good eater and little eater liking my hineee.
  16. As Macho Man Randy Savage use to say! Went back up river yesterday. Spider rigging the area that I've had good success in the past several weeks. And of course right out the gate I hooked up to something with some shoulders. Can't confirm if it was but, it pulled like a striper until it straighten my thin wire hook. I pushed minnows around for a couple hours. I missed more bites than I caught. End up with 4 crappie, 5 whites that way. Broke down early to go try fishing shallow brush for about 40 minutes and that made my day. Found one thick lay down. I had my boat in 10 fow and dipped down in about 5 fow. Pulled out 4 black crappie back to back. It suck to leave that. I wait all year to catch them that way. But dad duties call and it's still early. Water temp in the creeks I was in where 56-57. Water color.... Well I could kind of make out the foot of my motor. I like this color right now. You can sneak up on them. Here's one quick pic. God bless and have a great weekend out there.
  17. Well said.... And back to the topic...Congrats on your catch Stump!
  18. As of 16:00 it was around the hwy 264 boat ramp, but pushing through fast.
  19. Thank Danny! You the same! Yeah was great to have him out there. Hoping next time he is able to go he can do some bush whacking for some big slabs.
  20. What a day! Tons of boats on the water. Guessing seeing next weeks forecast got folks out today. Water temp 51-52 Got started about 11:00 and shut her down about 3 to go get my girls. This trip was great. Being that my dad who in the past has not been in the best of health but is stating feel better and his strength is increasing, was able to come along and spend some time on the water. As always here lately I hooked up to a striper right off the bat. Out of all the ones I've caught or hooked up with. This one was the first one that caused a cluster. Got her in though! It was slow for me, but I found an area that was holding crappie just couldn't zero in on a depth. Caught them 8-14ft down in about 15 feet of water. Let's say the ladies are on the prowl. Ended with 8 good eaters, a couple of shorts, and some whites. Good to catch up with you two fellas out there today. Here some pics
  21. Nice Danny, glad you found something to pull your line. Would of really liked to have call in sick today. The weather today was awesome.
  22. For sure sir a heavier rod would be better. I do use use 10 pound fluorocarbon. But, like I said the line on the reel locked up and wouldn't spool off and snapped. It's all good though. It was a nice day and a good number of a mess of crappie I went home with made the boss happy. Me too, I'm surprised I haven't got into a cluster off whites yet. Don't want to!!
  23. Good deal. Feel free to hit me up if you need any tips
  24. Got out yesterday mid morning. Water temp 46-47. Spider rigging minnows towards the back of a creek arm up the river. It didn't take too long before I hooked up to a striper that was way bigger than what I've been catching. Guessing 20 plus pounds. It snapped my line like a rubber band. The problem was I use cheap reels and the line got tangled up in the spool and it was pulling line and got stuck and snapped. My fault for being a tight wad! Anyway eventually after some adjusts to my rigs I found a school of crappie holding in 15 feet of water between 6-12 feet down. I stayed on them until they shut down. I quit a little early to break stuff down so I could go try some brush. I went to a lay down that I know that always holds fish. But, all I could catch was overachievers. Ended the day with nine crappie. I would of had my limit if I wasn't trying this different kind of minnow rig I tied this week at the start. Don't fix nothing that ain't broken right? Have a good weekend out there. God Bless. Here some pics.
  25. Danny it was 43 up the White in the area I've been spider rigging.
