  1. Are you guys using any weight on your lines with live bait or the artificals? Or just using the barrel swivel, bead and a hook? I do not have a down rigger so trying to figure out how to get the live bait down. I was thinking a barrel weight ahead of the swivel???? I know the flicker will go down on its own but are you using additional weights?
  2. Thanks for the tip on the bead! FF, so you are saying basically to let 50 feet of line out then attach to the board. So you are roughly trolling 40 feet behind the boat, with the board out to the side? And with the 2nd rod, you are saying attach BOTH rods to the SAME planer board? DId not know you could do that but works for me.
  3. I hope so cause I need to learn all I can LOL
  4. As I have stated I just moved back to the area and I am getting into the crappie, whites and stripers. I just purchased a Yellow Bird planer board, port side, to try this fishing method out. I have it all put together but what I am needing help with is the terminal tackle end of things. I m thinking in terms of for instance a Flicker Shad with a 2-3 foot leader and barrel swivel tied to the main line. Is this the proper tie up for them on a planer board? What about the rig for live bait either crappie minnows or live shad trolled with the board? Does the leader need to be longer? Shorter? I am using 10# mono main line but I have 20# flourocarbon leader from saltwater fishing. Is this a problem? It is a brand new 300 yard spool so don't really want to waste it but if it is a major problem will buy a smaller size. Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to learn as much as I can.

    4/26 Report

Caught a TON of little stuff!!!!! Mostly crappie and spottted. Did end up with a 17" Largemouth, a 14" Spotted and a 13" Crappie. Water temps were between 61.3 and 64.6 we fished the rocky branch area in the mid section. But mostly just getting back familiar with the water and areas. LOL

Is using the small 2 x2 box traps any good for the shad/shiners? I have one for mud minnows I used on the coast and it worked well. If so, what bait is generally used for the shad/shiners. I used cat food for the mud minnows but found raw bacon to be the BEST. But it is expensive LOL
