Great job Wilson! Enjoy your striper.

80 lbs is the current Flathead record according to AGFC website. Caught in the Arkansas River in 1989. As FishinWrench stated, have a feeling this is an April Fool's.

Sorry to hear about the motor, but at least you got into them again. Hope you are back up and running soon.

That's some good action Hoglaw! You fishing the same area I saw you in last week?

It looks like off limits doesn't start until April. Gary Y was alone yesterday so according to FLW rules he was ok as it is a restricted access time. Not sure on guiding up until April 6th. From the FLW website: http://www.flwfishing.com/rules/flw Tournament Restricted Access Begins Off-Limits Beaver Lake Mar 20, 2015 Apr 6 – 18 & Apr 22, 2015

The past week I used billed crankbaits that dive 6-8 feet casting and 12-14 feet trolled. The later in year the deeper the diver I will typically use, although I will find fish with the electronics first, identify the depth they are holding, then match the lure to the desired depth. I cast, troll, and stroll with them, depending on the conditions. The crappie came trolling and the largemouth came strolling. The largemouth bite came after the lure made contact with the brush pile.

Nice report Nathan. It is really nice to have numbers of fish start showing up in seasonal locations .

I will remind you to eat your Wheaties before we go. I don't want to have to tow you back to the ramp late in the day.

3/28/15 Report Location: Mid Lake Air Temp: 62 Water Temp: 49-52 Visibility: 4-5 FOW Depth: 10-14 FOW Lures: Crankbait and Swimbait 4 Total Fish: 1 LM (16"), 1 Spot (16"), 1 SM (18"), 1 legal walleye (19") Fished mid-lake Saturday afternoon. The 4 fish that were caught were all on rock/gravel points in 10-14 FOW. The legal walleye came on a crankbait. The conditions were post frontal and the wind was out of the north at 15+. I didn't mark many fish on points or flats, but did find a large number of suspended fish in cuts over 30-35 FOW. 3/30/15 Report Location: Mid Lake Air Temp: 75 Water Temp: 52-57 Visibility: 2-3 FOW Depth: 14-18 FOW Lures: Crankbait 23 Total Fish: 1 LM (23"), 8 WB (up to 18"), 2 short walleye, 12 crappie + 2 (11-14.5") Fished mid-lake Monday afternoon. The fish were all caught in the same area in 14-18 FOW over and near brush piles. Had a large striper freight train me. Wind was swirling and strong at times today. The bite turned on around noon once the water temperature hit 54 F. Marked quite a bit of bait and fish today, in contrast to Saturday. Met Fins on the water and we fished in the same area for part of the afternoon. He donated 2 crappie to the total as he has a freezer full of them already. When I was loading up getting ready to head home Gary Yamamoto pulled up next to me. He was prefishing for FLW and he indicated it was a tough day for him. Nice guy and more than willing to chat. All bass were released.

Thanks for the report Nathan. The walleye that I caught yesterday were egg/milt free. The surface water temp was pushing 57 so its likely that the spawn is nearing completion on the upper end. Talked with a guy that indicated that all the fish he caught in the last week were also free of eggs and milt.
-
I agree with Hoglaw. The fish seem to be scattered right now. I covered many miles of water and finally found the 4 walleye in one relatively small area. No striper that I am aware of, but the whites are making their way up. Small hair jigs, grubs, swimbaits, flies, and of course live bait are all viable alternatives to cranks. I have done well in the past for whites and crappie in the river using 1/16 or 1/32 oz hair jigs under a float. You can pick up walleye with this setup too.
-
It was great meeting you yesterday Hoglaw. Enjoy your walleye.
-
Will do J. I plan to use it for striper too.
-
Indeed. Are you still finding them near the dam Nathan? I fished out of LBN last week but only found bass.

3-17-15 Few hours in Morning, Few in the afternoon
YAKFM replied to fishman783's topic in Beaver Lake
And those folks are likely fishing the upper end of the lake. Tough fishing up river the past week or so with the influx of mud and debris. The positive fish reports (for eyes and bass) are coming from the lower half of the lake it seems. -

Great day on the water! -
Location: Near Dam Water Temp: 48-50 Water Visibility: 10+ Ft Air Temp: Low 60's Depth: 16-22 FOW Lures: Crankbaits and 3" Keitech Swing Impact 5 Fish Total: 3 SM (16-18") and 2 Spots (16 and 16.5") Headed to the dam to escape the mud of the river arm for a short fishing trip Tuesday afternoon. Put in a LBN and fished a wind-blown, pea gravel flat at the mouth of a creek in 16-22 FOW with crankbaits and keitechs. The fish all came from a relatively small area on the edge of the flat near deep water. Caught 3 SM and 2 Spots from 2:30 to 4:30. By 4:30 the bite shut down ahead of the front. Representative Pics:

Nice report Nathan and congrats on the walleye.

Welcome back Nathan. Good to see you posting again.

This fish had an attitude. I have caught or been present for several 30-40 lb class stripers in the past 3 months and this one was in a class of it's own for fighting prowess. I actually thought Fins hooked into a paddle fish by the way it was running. If not for the ability to chase him with the trolling motor this fish would have spooled him.
