    Rental Boat

I would call and reserve a boat now. We are going down and camping. When I called the state park about a boat they recommended reserving. You could also try Newlands and Gastons if the state park is out of boats. David Clark
  2. Fishinwrench,

recently moved back to St. Louis grow up here. Fished LOZ in the late 60's and early 70's. See areial photos that show dock after dock. Also here that it is a zoo in the summer. It's close is it worth fighting the crowds? Wife and I like to smallmouth , largemouth, and  walleye fish. Just looking for someone who is there to provide some insight.

  3. Gentlemen and ladies having grown up here in Missouri and lived in other parts of the country you have unbelieveable access. Come visit Texas and try to find a place to even go squirrel hunting. Not many places for the average person to go and attempt to hunt. Wildlife areas are all draw to hunt. Deer hunting better have family with land or deep pockets. Not unuasal for 5 guys to lease 500 acres at $2000 per gun. Really good not high fenced ranches, year round lease, including a feeding program can run $10,000 a year. Same with bowhunting. Fishing is a little better they do a reasonable job of stocking but mostly in the coastal fishery.

  9. Wife and I camped at Gasconade Hills Resort for the weekend. Did a 6 mile float on Saturday. Started fishing about 10:30 AM thinking we would finish the float about 4:30 ha. First deep pool we started catching smallies and google eyes. Using a ned rig we had non-stop action. The two biggest smallies we doubled up on she had one that was 14" and mine was 16". We lost count after we had caught 35 fish. Remeber I said it was only 6 miles the halve way point is marked by some power lines. We thought we missed seeing them so we continued catching fish thinking we would see the resort soon. At 3:30 pm we finally made it to the halve way point. Picked up the paddling and only fished what I thought were prime waters and continued to catch and release fish. Made it back to the landing at 5:30 pm and did not do the last half justice as far fishing. I had one huge smallie follow a small bass to the surface trying to take the bait away. It would propable have weighed 3-4 lbs. Tried to get my wife to drop a bait to it but it finally spooked from the boat. All in all a great trip and will do it again. Txdave
  10. Well the wife and I spent Labor Day at Bullshoals. We caught 10-12 fish a day for a couple of days. All short walleye, spots and small mouth. Best deal we had was to troll a #7 black and silver flicker shad. Fished in water about 30' deep. We had a good time. We are suppose to be coming back down for Thanksgiving we will be looking forward t oanother adventure. Thanks for all the information everyone provided. Txdave

  19. Wont just be fishing around St. Louis. After living in Texas for the last 20 years I have no problem leaving St. Louis on Friday evening and making a run to BulL Shoals to fish Sat and part of Sunday.

  21. Recently moved back to St;. Louis after living 35 years on the gulf coast. Fished exclusively in saltwater the entire time. So now I need to start building a new freshwater tackle bag. I have read the board frequently and searche quite a bit. I like to fish for bass all 3 varieties, walleye and crappie. Need suggestions on spinner baits, crankbaits, and soft plastics including colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I lived in St. Louis for the first 22yrs of my life and as I got older fished a lot but no where near the variety of items available as there is today. Txdave
  22. Muddler4, Thanks for the information. I am still a rookie fly flipper. Most of the redfish I caught were at 30 ft or less. I have a camp in Texas that allowed me to spend a lot of time stalking shallow flats. Also the mouths of fall outs from the back lakes. When bait is streaming out from the back lakes I have seen the fallouts turn red there were so many fish. I have a very good friend who does nothing but fly fish who was with me for some of those epic trips. He would just look at me and tell me this is just not right you fish this and think nothing of it. People fish all their lives to get in this situation and you think nothing of it. We have stood side by side on more than one occasion catching reds until we got bored and left. I do plan on keeping my 8wt for the trips back to Texas. Thanks for the info.
  23. Thanks Enchanter will look at better quality reels such as Orvis. May current rods are Sages just do not want to spend that much money because in 4-5 years I hope to be back on the Gulf Coast using them.
  24. Moved back from the Texas Gulf coast where I flyfished for redfish. Do not think my 9' 8wt will work for the trout. Need help I know 1 rod will not do it all but where do I start 5wt or 6wt and how long. No looking for the most expensive equipment nor bottom end equipment. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  25. Just moved back to St. Louis after being gone 35yrs. fFly fished in the saltwater and know nothing about fly fishing for trout. What sould be some fly set ups to catch the city trout. Thanks for any help in advance.
