  1. Sounds great! will do!
  2. Wow. maybe I should reschedule for the week before which is not a problem.
  3. I will be heading down to look at some property this fall to purchase and plan to also do a float trip from Oct 2nd - 4th. I have a seat open in the boat if anyone is interested. Would like to know what Streamers and any other patterns I should plan to tie ahead for that time of year. Eric
  4. Excellent point! I would rather not mess with bringing a motor anyway. will just plan to go frameless and use the flip fins and oars and get a ride back. If anyone is interested in a float trip and camping excursion with a Noob on the White in Early October Fri - Sat let me know. I have room for a second person. You'd have to bring your own tent and food.
  5. Awesome! thanks for the info I will definitely give him a call. I am in the process of picking a motor for the pontoon. I use to run a small layout boat for duck hunting on the Wabash river in Indiana with the 2.5 and could motor up stream in that fairly quick but that was a small boat and there were times where the wind and the waves were about as much as the boat could handle. I have never been on the White so your input will be helpful. Is the river not very navigable in a pontoon when there is a high level of generation from the Dam? This Excalibur is 12' x 5'6" and 48lbs you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aePrcDLlQo I have the two person frame as seen here: http://www.northforkoutdoors.com/_Media/challengerxxx-3.gif and and will mod a transom for the motor. I sold my tohatsu 2.5 and am in the process of deciding between a torqeedo t1003 3hp electric and rollable solar cell to recharge while underway or at camp. the other option I am looking at is a 5hp Lehr propane outboard. the whole boat frames transom and motor with me and gear should not be more than 400lbs with either option. If anyone has any experience with either of these two motors and inflatable pontoons on the White I would appreciate the input there as well. Thanks again.
  6. I would like to do a float/camp trip this fall but I am not sure if that it is even viable with all the private land along the river. Have any of you done this and are there any places along the white that would be a good option? I have an Excalibur inflatable 2 person pontoon boat set up. I can use it frameless or with a one or two person frame. I am looking to put an outboard on it. I am assuming a short shaft is optimal for the white? I plan to float down day one, camp float another half day then motor back to the ramp. Eric
  7. Thanks for the offer. I am forgoing the whitetail archery season 2 week vacation I take yearly and trade some of that for a float trip. When is the best time in the fall. I have an Scadden Excalibur XX with the two person frame addon. I should have an outboard on it by then.. looking at these new propane outboards (jury is still out on those) If I make it down I'd buy you a cup of coffee or whatever if your up for it.
  8. Internet at 30meg+ will be a requirement. Satellite wont cut it for the work I do.
  9. Thanks. Seeing how this will be my retirement home I will probably take the advice I have gotten from everyone on this post and the other post and focus my search in the cotter, flippin, norfork mountain home area. Good to know if I go on a 3-4 day float camp trip I should be able to hit them all along the way!
  10. Thanks for the heads up. I just spoke with a realtor at Gilbert realty and she indicated That yes I have 45 days to locate a like investment property and 180 days to close. That does give a little bit more breathing room... but not much!
  11. Thanks for the reply. I am pretty fortunate that as an IT professional I wont have to find employment. I will continue to work for my current employer I just need High seed internet access so I can VPN into work. I spoke with Larry from Hogs on the Fly (super nice guy!) and he gave some great local tips. Looks like I have the right area in mind - Mountain home, flippin cotter area.
  12. Is there a trout population in the White River around Batesville? I understand the water warms up quite a bit down stream from the Dam. While I love Small mouth I prefer to fly fish for trout. looking for home along the white but want to rule out homes where the white does not support trout.
  13. I have to use a 1031 swap after the sale of my farm in Iowa and wish to buy either acreage or a place on the water in North Central AR. I know I cant do both because anything with a lot of acreage (if you can find it with river access) is over the top price wise. I have so far decided on the Mountain Home area so I can be between the white, crooked creek, and north fork of the white. This is strictly based on internet research so far. I am planning on a float trip this fall down there so I can get a better game plan as to the places I want to look. But with a 1031 swap I will have 45 days to buy a property, so I was hoping to get some local insight on places. Ascethics, Internet access ( i work from home), things to do (were in our 40's). and ideal location for me to get out and fish hike hunt camp etc. any input would be appreciated..
